Hot Take: Skyfall’s got my favourite scenery of modern Bond films

The time in London (especially the underground)? The toppled statues on Silvas Island? The old house paired with the wax jackets out in the middle of the countryside? Just class

Maybe even best scenery of all bond films…

Many might not know but…

Everyone knows the lions and panels at the base of Nelson’s Column are actually from French guns taken in the peninsular war, but…

The decorative Corinthian style bronze top of the column (the frilly bit just below the statue) was cast from cannons salvaged from the wreck of HMS ***Royal George -***a famous British warship that accidentally sank while anchored off Portsmouth in 1782.

Some of these bronze pieces currently up there weigh up to 900 pounds (410 kg) each and are strapped to the granite column centre with large metal belts.

Does anyone else ever choose any option other than to take over peacefully after invading a province?

Is it ever worthwhile to allow a nation to carry on existing but a strong subordinate/ally to you after by sparing them?

Is it the general consensus that the Duke of Wellington was the clear second to Napoleon during their period?

Or is this just something I hear a lot because I primarily engage with other Brits on the topic?

There are certainly performances and feats that stand out from other generals, but it feels people are often drawn to the attritional tactics of the peninsular war and performances at Waterloo from Wellesley.

Is there anyone else who should be second, or is it too close for many of you to decisively declare?

For those of you who’ve visited a napoleonic battlefield - how was it and what are some recommendations?

Additionally, which ones are the most worthwhile to visit (ones that have changed the least or have supporting museums and material).

Anyone else obsessed with the last wooden naval ships of the line?

Those like the HMS Victoria and HMS Defiance - these would’ve looked familiar to those who fought in the napoleonic wars from a distance, but with the twist of steam propulsion too!

Feels like the best of both worlds for me, 120 gun wooden ships of the line, full rigging like those earlier in the 19th century but with a whole screw propeller!

Can anyone else turn their brain off and just watch Napoleon (from Ridley Scott) for the cinematics? (Other than Waterloo of course)

While many scenes are pointlessly inaccurate and even downplay the scales of the wars - I feel I can always go through the majority of it and still enjoy it simply for the looks and cinematics of many of the out of battle scenes (especially in the first third of the movie with Toulon and some of the French Revolution scenes).

Does anyone else agree or is it because I don’t know enough about the era yet lol

If a Nelson movie is made (let’s say 2 and a half hours long), what moments, and what themes should they focus on?

Obvious ones are trafalgar and his relationship with his men, but what else?

Would normally feel guilty wearing a dive watch with a suit…

But with Bond’s 2003 2531.80 it always feels a little better…

Day 1 of my first Omega

Obviously not doing daily updates - just got some amazing photos I HAD to chuck on here. Such a clean example I managed to get.

What other straps do people run on these older aluminium bezel seamasters?

First Omega!

Super happy with my 2531.80, love the wave dial and the aged aluminium bezel - I can’t wait to put some serious miles on this thing!

*I keep finding weird angles this watch looks great at, so excuse the *hand on gear stick* shot (I was parked lol)
