Was there a terrible idea that *didn't* go through?

I'm just curious. Over on r/TopCharacterTropes there's a post on terrible storylines that everyone's glad never came to fruition. But for the X-Files all of the terrible ideas I know of did end up going through. I know the X-Files was written without much pre-planning but is there anything so bad that it actually got scrapped?

Is this symbol a coincidence or Holocaust inversion?

Hi,

I hope it's ok that I ask this here. I recently visited an archaeology museum in El Paso, TX and there was a panel explaining how the swastika was not originally a symbol of hatred and was appropriated from numerous cultures native to the area. There was a collection of different versions of the swastika, which of course is all fine, but one caught my eye and left me concerned. It appeared to be a swastika inside a Star of David. I've seen the same symbol alongside antisemitic graffiti in NYC. Does anyone know if a local culture happened to use a swastika inside a six pointed triangle? Or am I going to have to call the museum and make a complaint?

Thanks

What? You mean to tell me you've never platonically snuggled your platonic coworker's shirt?

While platonically pregnant with his baby?

Honey? Is that the couple that doesn't kiss or hold hands but just stands with their foreheads together?

Mr & Mrs Spooky

My head canon is that at some point they adopt a black cat and name him Spooky.

How would you sign "spooky"?

Just out of curiosity.

I've been watching too much X-Files lately. I'll occasionally dream in sign, sometimes in gibberish and sometimes in actual ASL. I think last night was a mix of both. I had a dream where Fox Mulder was fluent in ASL and had a sign name, which was the sign for "spooky." In my dream the sign for "spooky" was I think two L-shapes with the thumbs touching to form a 'W.' Either that or he used to 'v' handshapes. The idea was that the shape looked the outline of a bat decoration you'd see at Halloween. However, upon waking I'm not sure there's actually much of a resemblance.

Anyways, when I woke up, I was curious about the actual sign for spooky. I poked around a few dictionaries and came across signs for "scary," but I'd think spooky has a different connotation, don't you? Another one was a compound sign for "feel" and "hairs stand on end." I thought I'd ask here as well just to hear if anyone signs something different.

Thanks for joining me on the journey of my wild X-Files/ASL crossover dream. It was also set at my old highschool, and I was probably naked at some point too.

What's something you wish you could add to the show?

I saw someone as this on r/Frasier, so now I'm asking if here. Personally I just want more time with the characters. X-Files is usually not the vibe of show I like to watch (I actually quite like sitcoms) but I just love Mulder and Scully, I love them each as characters and I love their bond. There came a point in season 7/8ish that whenever it was showing, you know, the plot, I just wanted it to go back to either of them.

Also, they should have been allowed to kiss each other more than like, twice.

Show parodies itself with an in-universe adaptation

The Ember Island Players - Avatar the Last Airbender: the Gaang watches a play about themselves and all hate their portrayals, except for Toph. Also, inside jokes about how unclear Jet's death was, Zuko's hair growing out in Book 3: Fire, The Great Divide being the only filler episode, and Zutara.

Hollywood A.D. - The X-Files: One of Mulder and Scully's cases gets adapted into a horribly trashy yet painfully accurate movie. There's a few layers of inside jokes here. Multiple actors play themselves in this episode. David Duchovny's (Mulder) then-wife, Tea Leoni, plays on-screen Scully. When Scully teases Mulder that Leoni has a crush on him, Mulder replies "Yeah, like Tea Leoni's ever going to have a crush on me." Duchovny also wrote this episode.

The agents (who are implied to have been together for some time, but not open about it) are mortified to see themselves making out on screen, much to Skinner's amusement. There's another joke here about a scene from the movie Fight the Future, in which Mulder and Scully were about to kiss when she was stung by a bee. When on-screen Scully declares her love for on-screen Skinner, Mulder is so disgusted that he leaves. Although Skinner found the movie hilarious, he feels bad enough to give them a bureau credit card to use for the night.

The Suit on the Set - Bones: The show Bones itself is very loosely based on a book series by actual Forensic Anthropologist Kathy Reichs. In the show, Dr. Brennan is an author of a fictional book series, the protagonist of whom is named Kathy Reichs. Brennan's book series gets made into the movie Bone of Contention, which she harshly criticizes for its scientific inaccuracies and many changes from the book. Booth's actor also repeatedly attacks him, saying he figures it's what Booth would do, although Booth disagrees.

There are also nods to the creative team: the victim's name is Stephen Hanson, after Bones showrunners Hart Hanson and Stephen Nathan. A screenwriter is named Liam Toynen, suspiciously similar to actual Bones executive producer Ian Toynton.

[The X-Files] How would Scully's abductors have been able to remove her ova without her noticing?

I'm wondering what exactly happened to Scully that left her sterile and I'm hoping someone here can help me out.

In season 4 we learn that during her abduction, Scully had all of her ova stolen by inducing superovulation. Scully (a medical doctor) only finds out about it later but my first thought was wouldn't she have noticed that? Even if it didn't trigger menopause, wouldn't her periods have stopped? I know you can have bleeding without ovulation (like on bc). But what would happen if you literally had no eggs/follicles left?

I feel like I heard somewhere that the "you were born with all the eggs you ever had" was recently debunked and your body does continue making some eggs, but I looked it up and I think I must have misremembered. I saw another explanation that you're not born with all your eggs but rather all the cells that will make your eggs. I assume that taking all her eggs possible would mean "using up" all those cells as well.

When she ends up getting pregnant anyway there's never any definite explanation of how but it seems like CSM altered the chip in her neck to "cure her infertility." The only way I can think that could work would be if her body grew new follicles, which again makes me ask: wouldn't she have noticed that?

I guess you could chalk it all up to alien technology superior to our own. My first thought would be that the chip in her neck could have secreted the hormones that the eggs would have produced, but she had it taken out for some time.

Hypothetically, if you had all of your ova taken but still had intact ovaries, would your periods stop?

I've been watching X Files reruns and I'm trying to figure out exactly what happened to Scully that left her sterile (spoilers ahead) and I'm hoping someone here can help me out.

Now, X Files is a show that has no problem contradicting itself, retconning, leaving things unexplained, or just dropping whole subplots entirely. It was also written by men, but I I'm not satisfied with that as an explanation.

What would happen during a X-Files/Bones Crossover?

Since I didn't know how bad I needed it until now. Also, I'm just going to ignore that X-Files exists as a TV show in the Bones universe.

Obviously, Dr. Brennan would hate Mulder, who would get himself killed messing with her. I don't think she'd hate Scully but rather, by extension, think Scully is an unfit scientist for collaborating with Mulder. And Scully would get jealous of her, of course. But I think everyone else would like Scully, I don't see why they wouldn't. Booth and Scully might bond over Catholic school. Of course, Mulder would then feel threatened by Booth, who would take issue with his anti-government conspiracies, not his belief in the paranormal.

I think Hodgins would be initially excited by Mulder's conspiracies but once he got into the realm of demons and ghosts would take a step back. There's that episode in season 1 where their supervisor (I don't remember his name) starts soliloquizing about a 2,000+ year old warrior skeleton (with no hard evidence) and Hodgins about lost it, so I think he'd have a low tolerance for Mulder too. I can't see the other scientists really hating him the way Brennan would, but they'd probably say something like "Wow, Mulder. That's... a very creative theory."

I think Angela would like Mulder. Maybe she'd introduce him to her psychic. She'd probably try to get Scully and Mulder to quit wasting time and just fuck after having to watch Booth and Brennan do the same dance for years. Sweets would, too. Sweets and Mulder could work on profiling together. I wonder how they'd react to Daisy.

As for the actual plot, I have no idea. But it would involve aliens, of course.

(Possible) Hot take: Scully and Bones would HATE each other

https://preview.redd.it/5osgy1yw05eh1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=96d0bba9d1d559fec3d620be46e9953c3dbf1773

Or at least, Scully would hate Dr. Brennan (who I doubt would view Scully as enough of a threat to spend emotional energy hating her back) for the following reasons:

  1. Brennan would strangle Mulder to death within five minutes of meeting him
  2. Nevertheless, Mulder would still be attracted to her (as someone much smarter than I said, "Her name is Temperance?!")
  3. Brennan would make a whole speech (if not publish an article) about how Scully is an insult to her field by merely associating with Mulder, never mind spending precious time and resources on researching-- and in some cases-- validating his delusions with supposed "hard science"
  4. Scully would say "I'm a medical doctor" and Brennan would say that she should be stripped of her license
  5. Brennan (who doesn't even do soft tissue) would take over the autopsies herself before letting Scully get anywhere near a body, and even if she did, Brennan would write a fifty-page report on everything she did wrong

Too bad they'd spend too much time arguing to realize how much they have in common: asking their FBI partners to be their sperm donors, waiting seven years to make a move and then waking up one night, crawling into said partners' bed, immediately becoming pregnant, and giving birth in circumstances suspiciously to similar to the Nativity. Of course, if they ever made it that far into the conversation, Bones would say that anyone who considered an alien pregnancy a possibility is unfit to be a mother, prompting Scully to murder her.

Even Hodgins might find Mulder's conspiracies a bit much. I bet Sweets would love having Mulder and Scully in therapy though. They'd be so much nicer to him.

If you could have any X-Files characters meet characters from any other TV show, who would it be?

Inspired by a post on r/Frasier. I'd like to see Dr. Brennan stuck solving a case with Mulder in rural New Mexico. I think she'd kill him.

Editing to add: I bet Hodgins and the Lone Gunmen would have a grand ol' time together
