Applying for Jobs for the Heck of it

I’ve heard some colleagues say they are applying to job vacancies just to see what’s out there. And if one fits their taste buds, they might take it.

Do you think it’s a good idea to apply to vacancies here and there, even if you aren’t 100% of moving soon?

0486 Wildlife Biologist Positions

Has anyone achieved this position by utilizing a degree plus experience?

Most job vacancies list two options of qualifying for the position. The position requires x amount of credit hours in wildlife, zoology, and plant sciences but also says a combination or education and experience can count.

Who do you contact to get a second opinion on if your degree and work experience could meet that requirement? Wildlife society? HR department of USDA?

Package Late / Not Received

How do I contact RockAuto about a package I never received or has had no update for over a month?

The website allows me to click “Package Late / Not Received” but then asks me to choose the following that is true. The problems is none of the answers apply to my situation of never receiving the package. It only gives options of receiving the incorrect product, receiving it late, and wrong address.

Do I put “the shipping address is incorrect” as we can suppose the package was lost?

Been 30+ days and my order hasn't arrived or changed in status...

I live outside the continental US. I live in a territory and am aware that shipping takes a bit extra for some orders. This is my first time experiencing an order taking longer than 3 weeks. I placed my order on June 26th. By June 28th, it had made it to San Francisco from Texas. Roughly 2 days later on the 30th, it said that it had finally departed San Francisco. Today, on June 28th, it still says the same last update of departing from SF. I am beginning to think it is lost or misplaced and never scanned. It was only a $20 windshield wiper order and I can't imagine it is something someone was waiting to intercept and steal. At this point, I feel I should just reorder from elsewhere and see what happens.

Should I wait longer or report it as missing/never delivered? If I cancel the order and the product arrives one day, does that mean I will need to send it back or it will most likely not be delivered once canceled?

Flights to Japan/Korea

What are round-trip prices like now? Anyone fly recently or soon? I remember $400 was the average but I’m assuming those prices are gone? Is united the only one flying to Japan?

What’s it like living in NW Oregon?

I’ve seen a fair amount of job offers for working in NW Oregon, including west of Portland down to Roseburg.

I’m curious to know what’s it like over there?

Uh-Oh It Went to San Francisco...

Are you experiencing longer-than-normal shipping delays on items transiting through the San Fran processing center?

I ordered something from Texas June 26th and haven't had any updates since June 30th, 2026. I can only assume the boat got delayed or re-routed somewhere due to Typhoon Bavi until sea conditions were favorable to push ahead. I wish there was a way to see live tracking of the exact boat the parcel is on - maybe there is a way?

Will everywhere close today by early afternoon?

Just asking as I had seen anything about enforcing closure. I’m guessing once we are within 12 hours of damaging winds?

Fuel shortage?

Anyone know what’s up with the fuel on island (specifically bases)? Seems like there might be a shortage as lines are long and no one is pumping fuel.

How did you finally move from Guam?

What made your process easier aside from saving the money? Did you move with a friend, partner, or family? Did you take a random job just to have a place to start? What tips or advice could you give to others looking to move from Guam short-term or permanently?

Want to find a new job/new area to live & work

Currently work for USDA in a US territory as a new hire. It’s my first federal position. I’m a Gs-5 and only 3 months in. The job isn’t so bad but it’s not something that I want to do longer than 6 months to 1 year. To be honest, I think the job is too basic for my skills & capabilities.

Looking at USAjobs, there isn’t a whole lot. Maybe it’s because of the time of the year?

Finding another fed position would be ideal but I’m guessing that might be difficult with the current administration and politics. Most importantly for myself, I want to be located back on the mainland. From there, there is more possibility and I’ll be able to make decisions more spontaneously.

What do you think is the best route or advice for someone in my position?
