What's been your closest shave with death?

My gay friend was miserable living in our provincial home town so I persuaded him to move to London and stay with me. Not sure if it's a gay thing but he would take fucking ages in the shower. Normally I'd just go to work without him but for some reason I decided to wait one morning even though it was going to make me late.

We walked to Holloway Station together and took the escalator stairs down to the platform. I looked at the board and there was no info about the next train. There was a surreal silence and I wondered what the hell was going on. Eventually I decided I had to find another way to get to work. I jumped on a double decker. It was rammed. Nobody could get a phone signal. When the bus arrived at Kings Cross, I was shocked to see a large-scale emergency response in action. Then the bus passed the mangled bus in Tavistock Square. The police had put a barrier up already but I was in the top deck so was able to see the mayhem that had occurred.

Basically, I think there is a reasonably strong chance I would have been on the Victoria Piccadilly Line train that blew up on 7/7 if I had left at the normal time.

Edit: I'm getting a lot of stick for saying my friend is gay. I thought it was worth sharing. In my limited experience of the world, women and gay men spend a lot more time getting ready than straight men. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned his sexuality. It's not an important detail. I just thought people might relate to the 30-minute wait for the gay friend to shower.

Edit 2: For those suggesting my story is fabricated, think what you like. I just think it would be pathetic to invent semi-involvement in a tragedy that killed and mained a lot of people. I'm 50. There were maybe a million people who had a close call on 7/7. It's not a ridiculous story. The reason I got a couple of details wrong is because I shared the raw emotion. I didn't want to present a curated story. Memories are flawed. I like to share my memory and then I'll add corrections, if necessary. To me, that is total honesty.

AITAH for not telling my mom about my pilot medical examination until the last minute?

So I am an aspiring pilot. Overall my mom has been unsupportive. She thought I’m not actually serious about it and it’s a waste of money at first. She sort of warmed up to it but only under the condition I enrolled in a paralegal course to set me up for a higher salary to keep funding my training.

I plan to fly on weekends and use my full time job to pay for lessons. I don’t expect any financial support from her.

I scheduled my medical exam and was hesitant to tell her. I’m also still getting trained at my job and finishing my degree so it didn’t feel important to let her know. I’m 22 years old. I drive myself and have a full time job. Why should I have to tell my mom about every single thing I do? I’m already working on bettering myself so I can move out.

I started my current job very recently so I haven’t saved enough to move out.

Anyway my mom became angry with her when I let her know about my appointment the day of. And she’s been acting cold, treating me harshly and giving me the distant treatment. She doesn’t want to support it financially or emotionally but she goes berserk bc I didn’t give her multiple days notice of the exam?

EDIT: Should have prefaced this by saying the only things I’ve paid for so far are a discovery flight and a med exam. I believe my priority should be moving out at this point. Flight lessons can wait a bit longer

AITAH-Rude wedding Guests

My now husband and I got married this past week! After the ceremony and pictures the wedding coordinator rushed us away to the getting ready suite for a few minutes of alone time before our entrance to the reception. Maybe 2 minutes into that alone time, she comes in to let me know there were quite a few people not on the seating chart that showed up (because they didn’t RSVP). I asked her to turn them away because it’s not my responsibility to feed people that can’t do what they need to. She comes back and tells me that we actually had a few people that didn’t show up so we filled those extras in to the no show spots (Great!)

I get out to the reception to see SO MANY PEOPLE brought their kids when it was a no kids wedding. I addressed the invitations and RSVP spots to each individual guest, so there was no misunderstanding. A few people asked me for a +1 and when I politely declined, they brought them anyways. I also had a couple of people practically beg for a seat at our wedding, just to not show up.

THEN, a guest that wasn’t even invited attempted to order from the bar. I assume they were underage because the bartender turned them away. They then began to yell at the bartender and attempt to fight him until someone took him back to his table.

Earlier today we were throwing the table linen from the reception into the wash and we noticed the one that was placed at the sign in table had literal g@ng tagging on it. Someone literally took a sharpie from our sign in book and tagged a linen (that thankfully wasn’t rented, we own it.)

Besides guest behavior, everything else went perfect at our wedding and I’m so happy to finally be a wife, but I’m also really disappointed in the way some of my family members behaved at our reception…

I was called a “bridezilla” by a few people that were close to me due to not wanting to ever speak to any of those people ever again. AITA for not wanting to ever speak to any of the family members that caused trouble at our wedding again?
