Drivers: How soon do you rate your passenger (if you rate them at all)?

I only use Uber when I'm heading to and from an airport, which is about 5 or 6 times a month. I tip every driver, but I don't do it immediately after the ride is concluded because 1) I'm in the "get through airport security" mode or 2) arrived at the hotel or home and thinking about something else. Thus, I'll tip when I'm in-flight or later after I land, or (often) the next day.

If you don't immediately get a tip, do you rate low? And if you get the tip the next day, can you reverse your prior rating? I'm only curious. I have no insider information on how Uber operates so any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you. (My rating is currently 4.85.)

EDIT: Thanks for the information. My takeaway is that it doesn't matter when I add the tip. As for a cash tip, I don't carry much when I travel (who does these days?) so that's not happening. Maybe a cash tip works better within a city, e.g., not airport runs?? At my residence or hotel, I'm always out front before they arrive. (When I pick up friends or family, I don't like waiting. It's rude and annoying.) At arriving airports and unlike many of my fellow travelers, I don't request an Uber when my plane is still at the arrival gate! I can wait the 7-9 minutes after I reach the designated pick-up area to request an Uber. It's OK to relax and do a crossword puzzle while I'm waiting for the Uber. 🙂

Hilton employees: Who is responsible - the housekeeper, the HK supervisor, manager on duty? (Though, late at night, it's only the Front Desk.)

I arrive, check-in (either at the Front Desk or through the app), go to my room, and one or two of the following occurs: insufficient towels (which I know varies across brands), the desk chair is broken, the coffee set up is missing tea (which varies across brands), the trash isn't emptied in the bathroom, the toilet paper dispenser is on its last threads and no back-up roll is present, the shower gel container is empty, and room is missing a Do Not Disturb card.

I ask who is responsible because... My biggest pet peeve is the lack of towels and a broken desk chair. (Sorry, it's about me 🙂 but I need a desk to do work and a wobbly chair and/or a chair that I can't adjust impacts my productivity.) I'm fine tipping, but I can't reward service that I never received as room rates continue to rise and services continue to decline. I don't want to stiff the housekeeper, but many of these things should be addressed long before I arrive.

The next morning as I leave for my meetings, should I leave a tip for the housekeeper (even though I had to go to the desk the night before for more towels, figure out a replacement chair, tell them the trashcan wasn't emptied, etc.)? And, same question: should I leave a tip even though I stayed a single night?

Titanium cutting boards

My sister is a rabid viewer of TikTok and Instagram, and to a much lesser extent, X. Of course, she's the first to buy-in to something labeled "the hottest thing on social media!" Love her to death, but... 🙄😉

Her new "hot" thing? A titanium cutting board. My background is in the sciences and when they first started to appear, I was skeptical. The look great and I would probably get one to use as a cheese board! In a published article (09 July 2026) on the ATK website, Lisa McManus did a review of titanium cutting boards entitled, "Why We Don't Recommend Metal Cutting Boards." If Reddit allows, here's the concluding paragraph:

The bottom line: You don’t need to sacrifice your knives—or your nerves—by using metal cutting boards. They are not more durable or easier to clean than other kinds of cutting boards, and they will damage your knives. We don’t recommend them. A good quality wood or bamboo cutting board is a far better choice. Or if you prefer, plastic boards are also gentler on knives.

Do you have have any experience with a titanium or stainless steel cutting board?

FYI: I did buy my sister a titanium cutting board as a present for her birthday. She was thrilled, but she did share that her favorite knife became duller after using it on the titanium cutting board.

Employees: Who actually assigns rooms? A person? A computer? AI?

Hello Hilton Employees,

If this question has been asked, please direct me to the prior post.

Who assigns a room these days? Is it done manually by, say, the Director of Rooms, or is it randomly done by a computer or AI?

For example, if I've reserved a king studio suite, who is responsible for assigning the location of the room? Is it random (ie., computer/AI) or specific (by the Director of Rooms)?

Edit: Thank you, employees! This has been illuminating, as least for me. I usually end up in the room type I booked and on the higher or highest floor; my preference. Lifetime Diamond here, but I'm clueless on how rooms are assigned. Thank you, again.

SCE: Do they increase rates in the summer months?

We're near the end of a new build with solar panels, and the SCE bills for May and Jun were around $35-38. The July bill is over $800. The SCE graphs contained in the bill indicate usage has gone up but we can't figure out where we're burning energy since nothing has changed within the house since May and Jun.

Does SCE raise their rates during the summer months?

Exterior (white) stucco maintenance: Is this a thing in the desert?

We're coming to the end of a new house build in the desert and the exterior is white stucco. I've noticed that the stucco, which originally went on about a year ago, is beginning to look dirty/gray versus bright white.

Are there people you can hire who will maintain the stucco, i.e., come by once or twice a year to clean the stucco? I thought I'd ask here before jumping over to the general stucco sub-Reddit. (Before anyone asks, I have no plans to do it myself. None. I don't care how simple it might be. 🙂)

So, what do you think of the Midi?

I'm trying to like the Midi, but I'm finding that it uses a LOT of slang and words that are not words, but phrases (e.g., ROCKALBUM, BESTBUDDY, EMPTYTALK). I'm also annoyed by their "themes." I do crossword puzzles for the words. I pay zero attention to how quickly I can solve a puzzle.

I've completed all the Mini crossword puzzles (back to 2014) and those are fun. I'm not having "fun" with the Midi. Your thoughts??
