▲ 3 r/Notion
I'm late to the party in terms of getting to Notion. It's been a thing for years, but I only got in last year.
But that has helped me see that it isn't as good as it seems on the surface and I think that it's greatly suffering from scope creep and should go back to the basics for a while.
- Simple stuff like integrating IMAP in mail, and MAPI calendar sync etc. on anything but google/icloud is dreadful. IMAP and MAPI have been a thing for literal decades. I think they're almost halving their customer base with this decision to focus on google and apple. I think it's even a bad business decision, people who have apple already have the benefit of 'the ecosystem' and so do those that use google for everything. Windows users have 365 which is possibly the worst integrated system of the 3 and would benefit the most from Notion.
- Loading times on the app and even on the standalone on my computer can be quite bad, I mean this thing is loading text. This is 2026 and huge websites and HD videos are downloading in milliseconds, but notion takes forever to download a page (even when it's supposed to be offline).
- A simple fix for smart phone would be a quick note page/widget/link/view which allows you to just write down the text immediately and it syncs as a new page after you hit ✅. You can always link it to the corresponding database later.
- Actual widgets on phone: Ie. it loads a page/database view directly. It doesn't even have to be interacted with, just load a "screenshot" or even just load the text and keep it offline refresh by 🔄️ button or time interval.
- Load offline first, only then update the page.
- The calendar app is awful. Probably one of the worst calendar apps I've seen. I know this is a company buying another, but still.
- Notion mail inbox allows you to type in any mail yet it only accepts google mail to use it. I mean why even bother with a mail app?
What I do appreciate is that Notion is multi-platform and the desktop apps are really good.
All of the new AI stuff is great and all, but what use is it if you can't actually use it on what you need? Maybe finnish the features you've built and bought so far.

Do you have other basics in mind that are missing and why do you think it is so?
