1510 owners, are the latches normally this loose?

*edit/update - Normal behavior. Thanks for the reassurance folks!

Gifted this 1510 protector case and honestly haven’t used one in a long, long time since the AIRs came out. Is this loose tolerance for the latches normal? Feels out of spec. Both latches have this amount of wiggle on the T part of the double throw. Case loudly snaps shut, but I can’t help feel that amount of throw means these could easily get caught on something during transit and pop the case open.

I converted a 1485 air to a backpack with 3d printed organizer.

Wanted to carry all my tech with me and wanted a backpack strap without having to worry about it getting damaged. So I printed out some D-Ring anchors and attached some straps.

There’s still room in the lid to fit some other stuff I haven’t thought about but so far I have

Mac book
iPad
Steam deck
Mouse
Tote bag
Phone charger
Phone dock and mag safe holder
Two changes of clothes
And the various chargers and wires the tech needs.

It’s a little on the heavy side but I don’t mind too much around 9kg so under the weight limit for my upcoming flight.

Restoring faded cases

I have 2 im3100 cases that spent years out in the west texas sun and red clay. I've scrubbed and cleaned them the best I could but they are still that faded grey/black on the exterior. They look showroom fresh on the inside, of course.

Is there a good way to restore the black color?

I'm looking to sell them so I'm not trying to spend a million dollars to make a hundred.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Pelican IM2875 with fingerprint scanner

Looking to see if anyone has any info on this case. It’s a IM2875 with what seems to be a finger print scanner / lock. I cannot find any information online regarding it. It was a gift from my neighbor for helping him move a couch.

3D Printed Inserts for the R40

Just wanted to share something I’ve been working on. I designed and 3D printed these inserts specifically for the** **R40. I wanted something that keeps everything organized, protected, and easy to grab without wasting a bunch of space inside the case.

I’ve made a few different layouts depending on what you’re trying to carry, including options for peptides and trays to store cigars and accessories. I have been tweaking these for a while now and I’m pretty happy with how they’ve turned out.

Figured I’d share photos of them here since I know a lot of people use the R40 for storage/travel. Happy to answer any questions or hear any feedback!

I sell these as physical items in my Etsy shop so feel free to take a look if you are interested. Thanks all.

Fold out lid accessory

Does anyone know of a fold out lid accessory for Peli cases? I would need more vertical room when I open the case to attach a light paper setlist to. Or any ideas how to make one and how to attach it to the lid so it doesn't flop around.

Has anyone found anything like these that work for pelican? (1560)

I’m really trying to build a pelican case around this concept. I’m not a fan of the divider system for hand tools. Contemplating the foam but would much rather use these kind of similar tool boards/trays whatever you call them. Wondering if any pelican pros out there have found a hack to this or made this work??

Pelican V100 America 250 case is going on an adventure with Fedex

I ordered a Pelican V100 America 250 case. Figured it would be a fun one for a little project I want to do. They got my order on August 7. Was on a truck on August 10th. Delivery date in Boise, Idaho should have been today (Friday the 14th). Instead, FedEx has decided my case needs to see every state in the union before arriving. This is going to be the most American America 250 case ever. So far it has been from Indiana to Kansas, then Ohio, then Kentucky, Missouri, and now New England. I love Pelican cases, but FedEx has done this to me multiple times. I really don't understand why companies still use them. I have given up on expecting to see my package when they say they will deliver.

*Edited to fix some spelling.

1510 finally foamed 7 yrs later

I worked in A/V for a brief moment and one of the techs I looked up to the most used a 1510 as his work box. I got mine in 2019 for $142 (must have been on some B&H special). Originally planned to get Kaizen foam but that never happened. Combo wrenches were in a tool roll, everything else loose. I finally decided to use the original pick a part foam + plasti dip method. I’m super happy with the results. Hammer, pry bar, and a boatload of extensions didn’t make the kit.

This kit pairs with a motorcycle kit (icon bit driver, tire patch, etc) and a Tekton 3/8 socket set (1/4-1”, 6-24mm shallow and deep)

Tool list for those interested:

Top layer (mounted to 1/4 ply)
-pliers (Knipex cobra, side cut, lineman, 2x needle nose)
-vise grips (Irwin regular and needle nose)
-flex head ratchets (3/8 Pittsburgh, 1/4 Gearwrench)
-scissors
-screwdrivers (Lutz 6in1, Craftsman 1/8x4” and 3/16x9”)
-telescoping magnet
-magnetic parts tray (4” round)
-tape (Stanley PowerLock 25’)
-razor (Craftsman)

Bottom Layer
-combo wrenches (Tekton 8-22mm no skips)
-crescent wrench (Craftsman 8”, 10”)
-line wrenches (Pittsburgh 6, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17)
-screwdriver (Craftsman 1/4x4”)

Lid (Meijer PVC toiletry bags)
-assorted zip ties
-Teflon tape
-OBD scanner (Innova 5210)
-multimeter (Innova 3320)
-battery terminal cleaner
-led light

5 month update: we created a self-check version too

Some months ago, I posted the first Amble trunk here and asked the Pelican community what you thought about shipping gear ahead instead of traveling with it.

Since then, we built a small fleet of serialized, trackable trunks and started moving them through real transportation networks.

We also developed two ways to move them:

Self-check: pack it yourself, bring it to the airport, and check it with the airline as oversized luggage.

Personal Freight: send the trunk ahead and travel without it.

Same trunk. Two ways to move it.

The larger idea has become clearer: your belongings don't necessarily need to travel the same way you do.

For a short trip, check it yourself. For a longer stay, relocation, or recurring movement between places, send it ahead.

We've been calling it Personal Freight.

The goal is simple: getting on an airplane should eventually feel as easy as getting on a bus.

Still early. Still learning. The original post here was one of the first places I put this idea in front of strangers, so I figured I owed this community an update.

Carry less. Bring more.

Camping gear - Hardigg med chests

So i scored 4 old med chests off marketplace and moved away from my rubbermaid tubs with zip tied lids, best upgrade ever. i use one of the smaller ones for dry food, raccoons are certainly not getting in these!

40 bucks on FB Marketplace!

Unsure on what exact model this case is, quick research told me this was some either third party company or someone Pelican previously collaborated with to make gun cases! Foam is obviously a little cooked but it isn’t glued in so I can just remove it. I believe it was foamed out for an m16 and 8 magazines!

1615 actually oversized per their drawing?

as you see, this actually adds up to 62.06 but we dont have to talk about that, right?

ha.

so yeah, the website uses the figure of 11.02 and whaddaya know, exactly 62.0

i started checking into this since im researching cases for a job i just got hired for, i'll have to travel with tools and the pelican air cases kept coming up, followed by all the usual alternatives like nanuk then drilling down shows you that examples such as the 1615 are *specifically* for being as large as possible within the normal airline rules.

i think any airline that hits you with the oversized tax for the thing being sixty thousandths over is kinda being an ass.

the takeaway so far seems to be that 98% of people have no problems with the 1615 and usually the issue if any is weight, since you apparently can stuff alot of crap in the 1615.
