I am now addicted to making pickles

This is my second year making them. Last year, they turned out just okay. This year, they are the best, crunchiest pickles I’ve ever tasted.

I pickled them in a 5 gallon crock for 10 days and then jarred and refrigerated.

A few of things I did differently. I bought the cucumbers the day they arrived in store and pickled them the same day. I think that probably made the biggest difference.

I also added a couple of layers of grape leaves and trimmed the blossom end off each cucumber.

I actually have a second batch going in the crock now. My challenge is going to be finding jars.

Favourite Fjallraven piece?

I have kids who love the brand and I‘d like to pick up some Xmas gifts (yes, I’m an early shopper). What’s an item that you absolutely love?

Is there any discussion about declaring a state of emergency due to air quality?

I just got in from walking the dog. My eyes are stinging and I can feel the phlegm buildup in my lungs. I fear for people who have to work outside. I know most employers will not cancel work because of the cost. Furthermore, there are sporting events and outdoor concerts scheduled for today which will not be cancelled.

Surely, someone in the government of Ontario must be thinking about the health consequences and the long term cost to our health care system.

Right?

Why do golfers get their shorts in a knot when they’re called out for slow play?

Slow (as in not busy, the tee sheet is about 3/4 full) Monday afternoon and we’re waiting on every shot.

Finally, on hole 10, I ask if we can play through. Guy‘s face goes immediately red and he yells at me that I’m being rude. What?

On 14, he finally relents and lets us tee off. Absolute fucking lasers in the back of my head while I tee off.

There were two open holes in front of them and there was an open hole behind us. I think we might have delayed them by 3 minutes by playing through.

Not the first time this has happened to me Last summer I was playing in Quebec as a twosome and asked the foursome in front of us if we could play through. We were refused. I wrote it off as language barrier but they could clearly see that we were waiting on every shot and that it was open in front of them. Again, another slow day on a resort course.

Why is playing through seen as such an affront? I would much rather step aside and let a faster group through than have them staring at me with hands on hips while I putt.

USGA, CPGA, R&A (although not as big a problem in the UK) really need to address this. Maybe an ad campaign- “Hey it’s okay to let a group through “.

Why is my local weather always wrong on my FR 970?

When I’m home, the weather is always wrong. For example, right now, my watch says 20/16C. The Environment Canada forecast is 26/15C so it’s not off by a few degrees which I would expect if the two forecasts were using slightly different weather stations.

Funny thing is, when I was recently in Europe, the watch matched the local weather forecast. But now that I’m back home, it’s wrong again.

Permissions for Location is set to Always.

AITAH for insisting on a leak test on a 3 year old mini split instead of settling on a “top up” of refridgerant?

Three year old Mitsubishi mini-split that’s blowing warm air.

Service technician diagnosed low refridgerant and topped it up. I asked that a leak test be performed but he’s telling me they‘ll come back and do it if the unit fails again.

Not willing to accept a bandaid solution and a verbal promise from the tech so I insisted on it in writing before I pay for the service call.

At an impasse so the tech left and told me the office would call me.

Am I in the wrong here? A three year old name brand AC unit should not be leaking, am I right?

The pump seals on my BE pressure washer have failed and I need to service or replace.

If I replace it, what part do I remove and replace? Just B in the photo or A and B? The replacement pumps I see on Amazon don't appear to be in two pieces like the Comet.

This is a parts holder that hangs on a cupboard door. When I made a test print in this orientation, the lip that hangs over the door broke off. Not surprising since the filament ran along the length of the overhang.

If I turn the model 90 degrees in any direction, I get the filament orientation that I need but, the print requires a ton of supports. The supports take 7 hours to print (out of 28 total hours).

Any ideas on how to print so that the overhang is stronger or modify my part to achieve the same?

I'm using PLA and an Anycubic Mega S printer with generic PLA settings.

This BE pressure washer has really been a workhorse for me with some admittedly lax maintenance. I've ordered a new pump.

When the seal fails, oil obviously enters the pump but does water go into the engine?

Is there anything else I should do other than drain and refill the oil?
