Air quality?

The air quality index on my weather app says the air is good. But my asthma has been telling me it's not. Plus there's an orange tinge outside. Does anyone know if there's smoke in the air? Is there an app or website with accurate readings? I've woken up feeling like I smoked a pack of cigarettes the last few days.

Looking for a vet and a human medical clinic

Hi. I'm new to Langford and I am looking for vet recommendations for my dog. She just needs her vaccines and regular checkup and I'm hoping to find someone reasonably priced.

I'm also in need of a doctor and I'm on the list to find one. Unfortunately I had an awesome doctor who passed away several months ago. I take meds that can't be prescribed through a medical clinic or Telehealth so I'm at a loss on what to do. A doctor in my doctor's office gave me my prescription a month ago but they said I can't rely on them. Yes, this system is stupid.

I emailed one clinic who told me they can't help and another I sent a message via their online booking system and I haven't heard back.

Social groups for autistic kids

Hi. I've just moved to the area and I'm looking for any type of social group for autistic tweens/teens. My son is interested in riding his bike, Pokemon cards and being a silly goose. He's a really kind kid who hates pranks, name calling (even if it's meant to be a joke....to him mean is mean) and being touched/rough housing. He also can't handle loud sudden noises.

I'd love to find a casual group that hangs out or maybe even a couple of kids that just want to ride their bikes around. He's 12, will be 13 later this year. Socially I'd say he's a bit young for his age. He could care less about social status or looking cool.

Bloating

Has anyone had to quit taking Wellbutrin because of bad bloating? My stomach hurts and is so big I can't fit into my pants.

I'm on 300mg. I don't think I noticed many side effects when I was on150mg. I'm thinking of quitting because I can't tell if it's helping enough to warrant dealing with the side effects.

.

I'm also in perimenopause and have several chronic illnesses so it's hard to know what's making me moody, tired, nauseous or brain foggy. My ADHD symptoms have gotten so bad I can't manage them anymore. I take Vyvance but it only lasts 5hrs.

I'm really hating ADHD right now.

New and looking for fun places to go

Hi everyone.

I want to know everyone's go to places for a fun (wholesome) time. I'm looking for:

  1. Kick ass playgrounds.

(We have been to Quarry Park and the Sara Beckett Memorial playground.)

  1. Easy access, dog friendly beaches.

(We've been to the Esquimalt Lagoon, Beachlands and Witty's Lagoon).

  1. Gluten/dairy free restaurants, bakeries or cafes. We went to My Chosen Cafe yesterday and it was awesome.

  2. Bird watching places.

  3. Any animal type place like a petting zoo, sanctuary or a shelter. We're also hoping to volunteer somewhere. My son is 12 and some places don't allow kids.

  4. Volunteer opportunities (doesn't have to be animal related) for a parent and kid.

  5. Indoor/outdoor activities for tweens.

  6. Scooter parks aside from Quarry Park and the JDF skate park.

And any other suggestions would be appreciated. We are willing to travel. We're also creating an island bucket list for future road trips. Thank-you!

Social groups for 45+

I'm new to Langford and want to join some social groups to meet people. I signed up for a book club but they seem inactive.

I'm 48(F) and a single mom. Are there any groups I could join or are there any sites that might list active groups?

TIA

Toe became hard at the tip

Hi. I was recently diagnosed with Raynaud's but I've had it for many years. I usually have really cold hands and feet, a finger will go numb in the shower and I can't chop a carrot without it hurting like a S.O.B., and that's it. But within the last few months the tip of my toe (beside my big toe) has hardened. I thought it was a callous so I never mentioned it to my Rheumatologist and my next appt is in six months.

It's yellowish in colour. And it's started to hurt. Even when I bend my toes. That symptom is new.

I have a slew of illnesses including long Covid so I'm used to having random symptoms. But if this is related to Raynaud's I'd like to know.

Also, is there specific stretches or exercises we can do to increase blood flow? I do Pilates and walk a lot. Thanks!

Places to take my 12yr old

** I wanted to update this to say thank-you for all of the suggestions. We've got a bucket list of places to adventure this summer now.

Hi. We just moved to Langford and my son and I plan to adventure around this summer starting with places close to Langford. What are some fun places to take a 12yr olds?

My dog has anxiety so she comes with us everywhere. We want to explore beaches and trails but they need to be dog friendly (she's always leashed but can be anxious around other dogs).

And he's still into playgrounds! We often drive to discover a new playground at least once a month so tell me any within an hour that are a must see.

And if there are any groups for neurodiverse introverted tweens with a pokemon obsession that would be amazing. Or really any group for kids his age that may be more nerdy than sporty. Thanks!

Recommended surgeon

Hi. I'm looking for a surgeon to remove my mom apron. I went to a surgeon in Vancouver but he wanted to do a full tummy tuck and said it would be $15k. I don't need that. I'm moving to the island soon and thought I should look here.

I had two c-sections and would also like excess scar tissue removed as well.

TIA!

Iron hurts my stomach

Does anyone else get a sore stomach/abdomen from taking iron supplements? I've tried many including prescription only and liquid. I try to eat iron rich foods but I also have diverticulosis and have a lot of food issues.

TIA!

Need movers

I'm moving from the mainland on June 24th. I'm driving the U-Haul myself and will arrive in Langford around 5pm.

I'm in need of two movers that can unload the truck. I have a 1bdrm so it's not a lot of stuff and nothing that is very heavy (one double mattress/a dresser/a desk are the heaviest items). There is an elevator.

Can anyone recommend a reliable moving business.

Tenant rights

I am renting an apartment and my lease ends at the end of September. I am moving earlier than that date because of the level of noise coming from the neighbours plus the lack of security for this building.

I was planning on honouring my contract but that's an extra $6k to pay out for a space I won't be using. I'm wondering if I'll have to pay a half a month's rent for each month I leave if I'm leaving for mental health/health reasons.

I've filed multiple complaints through the rental company to the strata about the people upstairs. They've gotten better but still wake me up regularly. I've written two long letters explaining how disruptive their noise has been. I've written out a weeks worth of loud noises I hear through the day and night. They vacuum 3 times a day (even at 4am). The male wears heavy boots the entire time and constantly drops stuff on the floor instead of putting it down. They move furniture at all hours. Their teenager drops weights on the floor starting at 6am.

I don't know if this makes a difference but I'm medically retired and spend a lot of time sick in bed. I have sleep issues so the fact they wake me up several times a week has had a negative affect on my health.

I will be telling them I will not finish the contract and will be moving at the end of next month. I'm hoping to learn of my rights so I can word my letter appropriately.

Will they legally be able to hold my security & damage deposits?

Thank-you.

Mailbox key replacement

Hi. I recently bought a condo and the mailbox key was not given to me. The realtors say they don't have it nor does the previous owner.

I was told to call a locksmith. I sent one place a message but they haven't responded. I figured I should go with a recommendation since this is a specific job. Has anyone had this happen?

I just moved to Goldstream village and noticed there's car alarms that go off throughout the day everyday. Today it was 4 times. The last one happened around 10pm and went off for about 4-5 min. Earlier one went off for over 10.

I think it's absolutely bonkers that this is a regular occurrence. Does anyone know why this is happening? Is it a new thing? My guess is at least one is from an owner who lives here and others are maybe from customers of businesses nearby. The police station is a block away, I can't imagine someone's trying to break into cars to steal them all day long.
