Trying (and failing) to make a simple shape for the red crown out of eva foam

I’m trying to make a red crown for a cosplay. I’m working with eva foam for the first time and suck ass at it. Seriously I have failed 4 or 5 times making awful affronts to The One Who Waits. Absolute trash. However, my craftsmanship can get better if I learn from my mistakes and learn more about making things with this material.

Was trying to follow this video: https://www.tiktok.com/@lillabeecosplay/video/7384362842205506832

Trying to make the red crown. Any pointers for making a pattern for it and cutting it out.

I have tried and failed to make this 3 or 4 times. I’m new to making things with eva foam and I’m shit at it as expected. I’ve wasted so much foam already with these affronts to god and just want help/tips making this thing. I’m getting more and more frustrated with myself as I keep failing…

I was using a colored pencil to mark out the pattern to be cut, and was using an exacto knife to cut it. One obvious thing I see myself is I have to use a hard surface (Like the idiot I am, I tried cutting this out on a bed while holding the foam. I know I’m not going to be perfect, but wow are these awful attempts.

Depop finds.

Leaning into blue/star related accessories here. Used depop for the first time as I heard it’s good for obtaining accessories, clothing, and other items related to this aesthetic. I won’t be doing anything with my hair as I want to leave it the way it is. I spent about $21 according to my bank account to get 3 items.

Hopefully I’m getting this aesthetic right. Vibrant colors, pop culture clothing, fishnets, etc. is what I see around me. Shopping for mostly masculine clothing and learning how to style myself in the scene aesthetic as I go.

Two gir items I obtained a bit ago.

Got these a bit ago. I just used the search bar to find scene info for guys and it doesn’t seem to be too different from girls. Still wearing vibrant/neon colors, graphic tees, checkered studded belts (I have two already, one red and one purple), and colorful bracelets as well, which is pretty straightforward. The only real issue is what colors I choose to wear and how I layer clothing because it tends to get pretty hot where I am and I don’t want to burn up.

Looking to depop for any more clothing I get like this. Hot topic is EXPENSIVE.

I have a quick question

So the left horn if these horns I made for a cosplay what will be two weeks back this sunday fell off (mostly due to how I had them leaned up against another object in my room as the right horn stayed in place and wasn’t on the verge of falling off). I bonded them to the headband with hot glue first which worked well, but should I switch to something stronger (like contact cement or something of that nature) to ensure something like this doesn’t happen again? Probably a stupid question. I apologize if it is.

I used foil as my base air dry clay as my material for the bulk of the horns

Stay determined

So a couple of days ago I failed to make my cult of the lamb cloak (I’m making it a caplet as this is my first diy cosplay and I’d like to keep it somewhat simple) and was feeling discouraged by my repeated failures. HOWEVER! I realized what I was doing wrong, tried again and got to where I failed before in just a few days. Besides, my last version was short, and had UGLY color changes since weaving in ends was a foreign concept to me at the time.

1st pic: ugly failed attempt
2nd: MUCH BETTER attempt that looks pretty clean so far and is also longer in length (it should go to my waist now instead of stopping short at my biceps.

Hypothetically how would I attach a new yarn ball to my work?

I’m crocheting this caplet (and made staggering progress considering the failures I had leading up to this attempt) and I’m (slowly) running out of red yarn and would like to know how I would attach and use a new yarn ball of the same kind. Sorry if the wording isn’t clear.

Take this!

Was practicing shading and wanted to draw this Nagatoro expression. I love her death stare so much.

New concept: Soul Links

Context:( this was my last post and it explains Hero of Realm stuff, which is related to this post) https://www.reddit.com/r/worldbuilding/s/JDDIGtcLPL

Basically Soul Links in my fantasy universe Final Fate are a special magical technique used by the Hero of Realms that allows them to borrow a fallen hero’s abilities temporarily. Think Drive Forms in Kingdom Hearts 2 where Sora transforms and Donald/Goofy disappear for the entirety of the time he’s in said Drive Form. Soul Link ofc has a nerf applied to it: The HOR cannot use such a technique with reckless abandon, they must A. Have the magical prowess to use a fallen hero’s abilities and B. Have the SP or Spirit Power (basically MP in this universe) to use the ability. With these two nerfs in mind, the current HOR must use this technique sparingly lest they run out of energy for the rest of their battle (unless ofc they have an SP restoring item like tea)

I have been kicking around the idea for a while now and felt it was too complex or felt unoriginal as hell since this has been done before. I thought this ability would be too op even though I just thought of those two nerfs on the fly. PLEASE give me constructive criticism if there are any holes or flaws in this idea.

Vehemence

Represents all of my toxic traits and parts of myself that I hate (which is a good chunk of my being imo). Wants to kill every other part of my psyche that split after the visitor appeared and would stalk you like Hellen if you failed her quest. Has a somewhat viscous body and leaves a pale, sometimes grey trail behind it. I hate my toxic traits. I hate my shadow self more specifically I guess.

I failed again. I must try again

Goddammit. I decided to start over after noticing an unfortunate pattern forming on the bottom of my work. Going to make it longer and sorta freestyle the pattern. I must remember to not give up just because I fucked up once. I have to keep going until I get it down and make this damned cape. If I must, I will order such an item from somewhere if I run out of time before Halloween (which I doubt I will)

Quick add-on to the last post

Sorrow would be another part of my mind that split from me after I saw the visitor while drawing. It’s unique in the fact that it has a viscous slime-like body and is colorful unlike the others who are either pale or greyscale. Its face is, as you can see, also melting with its body.

Parts of me (Part 1)

I had a strong desire to draw something tonight and I decided to draw different emotions or parts of me as though I’d looked outside like Frederic. I’d become grayscale and resemble my artsona Mono after transforming and parts of my psyche would split up, with Mono being my calm, rational self. Did I do too much when I drew Mania? or ecstasy, I called it Mania because of its purposeful wild and reckless design. There is such thing as over designing and I think I just messed up there. Mania has a somewhat slug-like body with 4 tentacle-like arms with 3/4 having facial features like mouths and eyes. It’d speak somewhat like Wriggly Fred.

Tried to go for some sorta theme with each.
Mono, being relaxed would look the most human out of everyone, Fury would have wild lines like Mania since both are extreme emotions that throw logic out the window, and Pestilence/Burnout is beat up, corpse-like and unzipped because burnout tends to make a person feel like death.

My split selves would not ask for the others to be killed, but to be reunited with one another to make me whole again.

Getting somewhere!

I am FAR from done, but it’s starting to at least look like something. I know the cape is small, but this is only my first version of this using a crochet pattern for a caplet cape I found. I can probably figure out how to modify said pattern to make a longer, robe-like version of the cape. Keeping it short and simple for now, will probably toil away at a longer version after this one is done.

A small bit of cape progress

Finished row one of the cape, just gotta proceed to row 2 and 3 and repeat those two till I get it to the size I want. And yes, the white part is FINALLY in the right place instead of being positioned at the wrong part (the top of the cape.

A nagatoro mii I added to my island in Tomodachi Life LTD

I say ADDED because I didn’t make this mii with my own imagination, as I poked around tomodachishare for help. Technically I don’t want to say I MADE this mii all on my own, that’s giving myself too much credit. The only change madd was the mouth used and the size of certain features. Should prolly make a senpai mii next. Flairing as art because I’m not sure what else to put this as.

Once more. I’m satisfied with this outcome.

Now there’s actually space for the red crown, I have a spare headband to do it again if I want, but I’m proud of how this went. Just gotta get EVA foam and whatnot to make the crown and then the big kahuna, the cape is all I have to do after that. The issue last time was that the horns were too big and that left no room for the crown, but that’s been taken care of with this new, smaller pair. The hot glue bond seems strong too.

1st pic is the new pair, 2nd is the old one. I’m going to stop putting so much weight on the words of others saying these look like anything but horns because I put my determination into this.

u/EntrepreneurOne692 — 22 days ago

Do these still look like hotdogs

If so, I failed yet again and have to try something else. I curled them back as much as I felt was necessary, tried to add some bumps for details, but prolly messed up again. If I did fail, I’ll just do it again… and again… and again until I get it right. These horns look alright to me, but I prolly screwed up again.
