First ever ruck was so tough but fun never thought I would be able to do 8km when 5 months ago I couldn’t do 300m before my calf’s locked up

I’m currently cutting . Based on my physique, are there any muscle groups that I should focus on bringing up during my cut? My legs are abysmal aside from okay calf size will show if asked
Dropping 10kg has made a bigger difference than I thought Haven’t seen much difference sadly in looks
What’s surprised me is that I feel my workouts so much more now, yet I’m stronger than before. My fitness is up, recovery feels good, and most of my lifts have improved despite being lighter.
The only thing that seems determined to stay exactly where it is is my bench. At 118kg (260lbs) I was benching 90kg (198lbs), and 10kg later I’m still benching 90kg (198lbs).
Not as happy with the weight loss as I could have done more in 8 weeks and I don’t look different at all but it will change more around the 100kg mark for sure
Hey r/life,
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.
I was born at 25 weeks and 5 days. Properly premature. Tiny, fragile, not great odds. On top of that, my mum had an IUD when she got pregnant with me — so statistically, I wasn’t even really “supposed” to happen in the first place.
When you stack it up like that, it kind of messes with your head in a weird way.
I wasn’t planned. I wasn’t expected. And when I did arrive, it was way too early. From what I’ve been told, it was a stressful, uncertain time. A lot of waiting. A lot of hoping.
But I made it.
And growing up knowing that has shaped how I see everything.
Whenever life gets hard, I come back to that. I already beat odds before I could even think. I already survived something most people never have to face. So when things feel overwhelming now — work, stress, relationships, goals — it almost feels… lighter? Not easy, but lighter.
It’s like I’ve already been given this ridiculous second chance before I even knew I needed one.
Being born under those circumstances makes me feel like I have to use what I’ve been given. Like I can’t waste time coasting or complaining too much. I don’t mean that in a toxic positivity way — life still gets tough — but there’s this underlying perspective of, “You weren’t even meant to be here. Make it count.”
I don’t see it as pressure. I see it as fuel.
Has anyone else had a similar experience — whether from being premature, surviving something early on, or just feeling like your existence itself is kind of lucky?
Would love to hear your thoughts.
Hey everyone,
I was born at 25 weeks + 5 days (2nd trimester) on 20/05/07 at 23:25.
I weighed 940g, was 37cm long, and had a 24cm head circumference.
Basically started life under 1kg — super premature — and now I’m 19 year old guy
If you’re curious about anything at all, just chuck me your questions. Happy to answer whatever 😊
