Sega Genesis – Recommended Battery Holder for Your SEGA Cartridges!

A few days ago I asking for recommendations on a good battery holder for Sega Genesis games. Thanks to some suggestions, safe to say I found it.

Dahszhi CR2032 Button Cell Battery Holder. (Can be found on Amazon)

Very simple to work with, my only warning to you is to be CAREFUL WITH THE +POLE LEG. That little leg can only really take 1 good bend and has a high chance of snapping off if you mess with it too long after that as shown in image 4. Apart from that, soldering this battery holder was a breeze.

I was able to close my copy of Phantasy Star II just fine afterward. There was no feeling of tightness from the battery holder inside whatsoever.

I even went ahead and did it to my copies of Phantasy Star IV, Shining Force, Shining Force II & Shadowrun.

Thanks for making this possible. Cheers.

Thoughts on Mega Man X - Armor based shoes?

I've never really been into any specific shoe brand, but... what do you guys think if CAPCOM decided to release Mega Man X armor based shoes? Would that be something that catches your attention? (Air dashing sold separately)

Been thinking...... Would the word ‘congratulations’ be one of, if not the most, misspelled word in gaming?

Especially during the NES era, when ‘CONGRATULATIONS’ screens were common.

Sega Genesis - CR2032 Battery Holder recommendations?

Hey guys, was wondering if you have any recommended suggestions for a battery holder on Sega Genesis games, considering how cramped it is inside the cartridges. These are some I found on Amazon. Do you even bother with a battery holder or just replace the old battery with a new one that already has the metal taps on it? Thanks

ALIEN SOLDIER - Story Manga Page by Hideyuki Suganami (SEGA 1994)

If you’re a fan of the 1995 Sega Mega Drive game Alien Soldier by TREASURE, you’re going to love this.

This manga page was made by the game’s creator, Hideyuki Suganami, & published in the December 1994 issue of BEEP! Mega Drive. The manga contains panels depicting different scenes from the game’s story that were originally planned for inclusion in the game.

The first image is an English translation of the manga page.

The second image is the original scan of the manga page.

The third image comes from the book Legends of 16-Bit Game Development, which goes into greater depth about the comic’s history.

Cheers.

After LONG patience, I finally have a complete copy of the Rockman X3 - Buster Battle set, working too!

This was a PAIN to get in the long run you guys, been trying to track a complete set for the last 4 years now but never came across one for sale. Then last year when I was searching something totally different on eBay under 'Rockman Bandai'. I see someone has listed this handheld complete with everything you see for $65. The unit had a bad screen but at least this was my 1st foot on the door in getting a full set, I was blown. Next I decided to hunt down another unit itself but with a working screen, this specific blue X3 edition to be exact but to no luck. At this point I decided to just go learn about those Japanese shop sites like Sendico. It wasn't that difficult to understand how shopping there works. It didn't take long to finally come across someone selling the handheld alone with a good screen. Any who, I now have complete working unit of Rockman X3 Buster Battle aka ロックマンX3バスターバトル aka Banda's - Design Master Denshi Mangajuku AKA - 電子漫画塾

[Bandai Design Master Denshi Mangajuku] - Touchscreen not working - *FIX*

This is a guide showing how to fix a none-responsive touchscreen for the Bandai Design Master Denshi handheld. It's pretty simple and you only need a Conductive Ink Pen for the job. The issue comes from a trace on the connector of the digitizer that breaks over time.

Here's a video I made about this fix that goes more in depth about it.

[Design Master Denshi Mangajuku] Teardown Part 2 - Full PCB Photos

Figured I just go ahead and desolder the cartridge connector off to also show the full back side of the Bandai Design Master's PCB because lord knows how long it'll still be for someone else to upload any inside images of this handheld online. Also yes, I can now confirm that you seriously need to 1st desolder the cartridge connector off in order to remove the plastic plate holding on to the PCB itself. Now, without any further ado... here's some of the 1st images ever uploaded of the Bandai Design Master's PCB (aka 電子 漫画 塾). Also to note, this blue version of the unit is the Rockman X3 - Buster Battle edition.

Also if interested, here's part 1 of this teardown that illustrates the full teardown of this handheld in order.

[Design Master Denshi Mangajuku] - Teardown Guide

So considering how difficult these handhelds are to find, let alone any information online about repairing them or what they even look like on the inside. I decided to make my own teardown guide for this obscure 90s touch screen handheld by Bandai. After finally being able to hunt one down, I figured I'd give back to the retro community by doing this in return. The version I'll be using here is the Rockman X3 Buster Battle - Blue Edition Design Master.

As a bonus, here's a teardown video slide show that I also made for this handheld which includes extra taken pictures too.

Another copy of Grind Stormer see's the light of day again, thank you Steel Talons for your sacrifice...

It's honestly wild how TENGEN cheaped out so hard on their PCBs, with Grind Stormer unfortunately being one of the most defective titles from their Genesis lineup of games.

Also, regarding the last picture, I was originally planning on using a Tommy Lasorda Baseball cartridge for Grind Stormer. It was around the time where I just finished fully removing the Tommy Mask ROM off that I realized that the Grind Stormer Mask ROM was a 42-Pin chip and Tommy's PCB was actually for 40-PIN Mask ROMs....Lesson learned, double check your donor boards. I didn't even know there was a 40/42 PIN difference in some games!

I'm finally finished! Mega Man X2 & X3 Carddass Station System File - Scan & Restoration of original Artwork - Complete!

A few months ago, I learned about these cool 'Rockman X - Carddass Station System File', trading card binders that were released only in Japan. They contain exclusive Mega Man X artwork that I've never seen anywhere else. So I took the liberty of tracking these down for some time now. Once I got both binders, I was finally motivated to begin the restoration process. After a good week of careful scanning, photoshop and clean up tools, it was go time.

The X2 binder had exclusive artwork in the front, front-inside, back & back inside.

The X3 binder really only had 1 exclusive piece of artwork to it. The other sides contain already known character artwork of X, Zero & other X3 bosses posing together. To make up for X3 only having 1 exclusive, I instead restored 2 other artworks of X3 which where used for promotional commercial use back in the day.

Enjoy!

Some days on my free time, I enjoy recreating Sega Genesis covers. Here are some of my most recent turn outs.

I mainly like tackling SEGA games that were PAL only and giving them a Genesis candy cane style to them.
