Little side project
Really like how cozy this turned out.
Now I have the power of God / Anime and plushies on my side while also being able to game in bed.
tldr; Got a cheap TV which led me to get other stuff from everywhere and do this.
TV:
It all started with the TV I got for 1€ on ebay by accident.
The TV had a heavy blue tint which was because of the backlights deteriorating, so I fixed it for another 15€ and mounted it on the wall for 20€.
Fixing it was actually quite a hassle because the manufacturers really don't like it if someone else tries to open their TV.
The TV is a 49" Grundig 4K HDR model from 2019, so I expected someone else would also be willing to fix it, but apparently not.
Sound:
After that I used my old fire TV stick with it, but noticed the sound wasn't really great, so I went ahead and once again searched on different marketplaces what was around nearby.
Then I found a listing for a Yamaha C30A (which is not only the soundbar on the sideboard, but also a subwoofer, which is right below it) so I got this as well for 70€.
Media Player:
Very unexcitingly I got a Google Streamer 4K for another 65€ on ebay because the Fire TV stick really struggled with my x265 content and was, like every Amazon device, heavily bloated.
Gaming:
Then the (until now) final decision:
"Hey, I could put a PS4 there, they are pretty cheap and have a great game library over all".
So I went ahead and found the target of my desire:
PS4 Pro, latest model (quiet fan), FW12.00, disc drive doesn't work, for 60€.
I did Sony the favour and went "all digital".
The Castlevania Faceplate is self printed and got a sheet of clear PETG foil over it for protection (and to make it look a bit more premium).
I chose Castlevania Artwork, because I thought it would fit quite nicely with the wood figures (also I just did another SOTN run at the time).
Honorable Mentions:
Icing on the cake: White selfclosing cablehose for another 6€ ( I love those ).
Closing thoughts:
So now I have my bedroom setup for sub 250€.
Is it ultra budget? Probably not, but I still think I did good when it comes to price / performance.
The monitor arm next to the remotes will get a 3D printed tablet holder next.
I was thinking about adding something like a tray, but I am too afraid of accidentally knocking it over when there is something on it.
The wood on the wall with the remotes + controller holder attached to it was just a piece of laminate floor I still had lying around (badumm tss) and the thought was "If Ikea did this, it would be considered minimal / smart design".
State of Emulation
Hi folks, just wanted to get your input since most benchmarks I saw are quite old already or just cover the base PS4 and I am interested in the Pro:
- Is Retroarch from the homebrew store still running poorly?
- Is installing up to date CachyOS enough for games up to Gamecube / Wii to run well?
Changed the Pokemon XD Cipher Peon Theme to Dr. Pez version
Pretty niche, but maybe someone can use it, you only need to extract the Game files (with Dolphin or an archive extractor), replace the file and use GCRebuilder.
