World of DVD (See it, hear it, feel it)

I found this DVD while thrifting. It’s from 2001, in German (although you can switch to other languages for some parts) and has 34 trailers for DVDs that were coming out around that time.

It is basically a promo DVD for the DVD format. In 1998, DVD became widely available across Europe and in Germany.

The back says: “The Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) offers a whole new dimension of home entertainment: crystal-clear picture, brilliant sound, a choice of different language tracks and subtitles, interactive menus, additional background information, and more.”

"On this jam-packed DVD, you can watch 34 trailers for current and upcoming DVD releases and experience lots of special features like “making-ofs,” deleted scenes, and interviews. Get ready to be amazed by the world of DVD."

Peelerz Banana Cake ka!

It’s a fluffy cake with a banana-flavored pudding-like filling. It could’ve had a bit more filling though. That said, €2.50 is pretty pricey for what you get. But it was yummy.

Finally got all German Hot Wheels AcceleRacers DVDs (except the last movie)

I finally have all of the Hot Wheels AcceleRacers movies that were released on DVD in Germany.

Unfortunately, only the first three movies (Ignition, The Speed of Silence, and Breaking Point) were released on DVD.

Although the fourth movie, The Ultimate Race, aired on German television on November 26, 2005, on Super RTL and therefore received a German dub, it was never released on DVD.

I also believe the German dub of the 4th movie might be lost media.

Since each movie is approximately 60 minutes long, they were broadcast in Germany on Super RTL as three separate 20-minute episodes.

Brand-new DVD players still for sale in German supermarkets

While grocery shopping at Kaufland, a German supermarket, I was surprised to see DVD players still being sold in the electronics section.

The model was a Denver DVH-1245 MK3 for €36.00.

Do you think it's worth buying a DVD player like this nowadays?

The description says it supports both NTSC and PAL playback.

Seems pretty practical too, with SCART, HDMI, and USB connections.

Useful Preservation Guides for Archiving (Scanning, Dumping, Video Game Preservation)

I’ve been running a collection on the Internet Archive for a bit over two years now, mostly archiving physical media like magazines, CDs, and video games/Flash games.

Before that, I honestly had no idea these kinds of guides even existed, and I also didn’t really know what to search for to find them. I only came across them recently, but I think they’re really well written and organized. The process can definitely be time-consuming, but it also leads to really high-quality archives.

So I was wondering if people here already know and use these guides. I just wanted to share them since they’ve helped me a lot.

They’ve been useful for scanning physical media like print magazines, but also for properly dumping/copying games from discs (CD-ROMs, DVDs, PS2 discs, etc.).

Found some UK DVDs with £0.99p stickers on them

I was in a thrift store in Germany over the weekend and found 4 British films with stickers saying “Pre-owned £0.99p (gamestation)” and “Bog Off! Buy one, get one free on titles with £9.99 or less” on them.

Can anyone tell me what these films are? Are they actually UK-exclusive releases, and are they any good?
I didn’t buy them, but I could still go back and pick them up if it’s worth it.

The titles are (double-sided discs):

  • Any Man's Death | Conspiracy of Love
  • Just Ask For Diamond | Taken Away
  • Hostile Advances | Creator

and (single-sided)

  • The Successor
