As the title says, I wanted to ask what examples of modern lost media there are when it comes to series and films. The most well-known example that comes to mind is probably the 2022 series Willow.

I can imagine that films or even entire series might be removed from streaming services for legal or licensing reasons, causing them to effectively disappear and become lost media. I’m also interested in what could be described as unreleased/removed media, works that still exist but are no longer officially available to the public.

I’m particularly interested in cases where a series or film is no longer officially available on any streaming service or physical release. Are there any examples of this from the past few years?

Please let me know if this isn’t allowed, as I’m not sure if this qualifies as it’s sort of… recently lost? This was up until recently paid-only content, but now you just can’t watch it anywhere.

Jacob Geller was previously one of Nebula’s featured creators and he had a ton of videos posted exclusively on there, but due to some recent events I will not be going into, Nebula has removed his account and wiped all of his videos from the site. To my knowledge, none of it is available anywhere else. I think Nebula was right to do this, but the fact that so many hours of content are now just gone with no way of accessing them has really been gnawing at me. Maybe someone has some of them archived?

I’m a huge fan of the Curious George PBS kids series and still watch it a lot to this day but now that the show is getting taken off of Streaming services fast as well as PBS it’s time to start archiving the show.

As of now every episode from Season 1 to 15 has been uploaded to other websites for now but it’s missing something?

Back in the day when George would AIR ON PBS it would have these live action segments with a group of kids doing similar stuff that happened in the Segment that just played all episodes from season 1 to 9 had these George was cancelled in 2015 but when the new seasons came 10 to 15 no new kids segments were added and all the episodes from the other seasons removed those segments and the only place I think it’s possible to watch George is The PBS kids video app but all those episodes have there kids segments removed.

But Luckily the kids Segments are on the DVDs for the show so the DVDs is the only place to most of these segments but not every episode was put on a dvd and any segments from season 6 to 9 are unfortunately lost due to not being put on the season DVD sets as they were removed but PBS airings proved they do have segments the plan is to find all of these segments so we have everything found even though I didn’t like them too much they are part of George history.

Note this is all I know it’s possible some of these Live Action Kids Segments are online and I’m not seeing them I did look but could have missed something.

This has to do with the "." trick/ Full Stop punctuation rabbit hole at it's worse; when gore and such was very common.
It had the name "ø·ø ̈ùšù„ø© ø£øoù†ùšø© ù„ù„ø£ø·ù ø§ù„ ù„ùšø ̈ùšø§ шрек0" and it eventually got taken down. As for the image; it looked like some sort of crime scene. I remember there being multiple different shots/angles of the scene; with the one I mainly remember having a angled down shot of the bathroom; a porcelain object at the side with blood on it. It was either a sink or a toilet. It was a white room, tiled floor; blood entirely on the floor; seeming somewhat coagulated at the edges. Dark red; and some bright red. It seemed recent. I remember the lighting looked like it was dark and taken with a phone flashlight. It was high quality for a youtube thumbnail; iirc the actual video was unrelated.
I remember being so terrified of this and im curious on it's origins; and if it's even real., Me and my friend used to talk about it especially since we frequently hunted for disturbing videos on youtube. We couldn't even find it in our old DMs, saw potential mentions.

Years ago the avant-garde PBS series Alive From Off Center featured a short film called "The World of Photography," with a photographer and another guy who said he wants to be one. There were weird bits like clowns, boots with mayonnaise on them, lots of jokes about photography. Plus one scene where the guy who wanted to be a photographer sings a song in a voice over about photography while he's lost in thought.

I believe the guy who wanted to be a photographer was a performance artist in real life. I thought it was funny, quirky and cool. Only saw it a couple times. Might have recorded it. I remember showing it to my idiot so-called best friend and he, being an idiot teenager, laughed at and said the two guys in it were likely gay or some sort of nonsense. Not friends with that idiot anymore thankfully.

Wish I could find this weird World of Photography episode. It was really good and different. If anyone knows where to find it please assist!

I recently read Intensity by Dean Koontz and found out that there was a 3 hour TV movie adaptation released in 1997, starring John C. McGinley. Since finding out about it, I’ve been trying to track down a way to watch it, but unfortunately I haven’t had much luck.

From what I can tell, the movie is quite difficult to find nowadays, and even physical DVD copies seem to be rare or expensive. Ideally, I’m hoping that someone might know of a version that has already been uploaded somewhere online, rather than having to hunt down a physical copy.

(i am aware that there have been previous posts on reddit regarding this movie from 5+ years ago)

If anyone knows where the full 1997 adaptation can still be streamed, or found online, I’d really appreciate the help!

I’m not exactly a major fan of Ren And Stimpy or Spumco, but I saw this posted on twitter by a user known as “clampettfan2010” and I figured I’d share it here. Sometime between 2000 and 2001, Spumco released a PC Flash Game titled as “Pizza Packing Moron” according to this archived page (https://web.archive.org/web/20011214022816/http://www.spumco.com/ppm.html) you played as Jimmy The Idiot Boy dodging stuff being thrown at him from Slab And Ernie. It was basically a flash game in a exe file that you could purchase for only 2 cents. What’s weird is that other sources claimed the game was about delivering pizzas so I’m not fully sure if thats true or not. Funny enough, this topic was actually posted on the ren and stimpy subreddit nine months back, someone did get in touch with John K who said that he DID have a copy, but it was on a floppy disk and couldn’t be able to transfer it.

Someone in clampettfan2010s twitter post claimed that the game was free to play as just a SWF browser game on a website, but it’s currently unknown what website it was playable on. Someone also said that they MIGHT have a copy (in the post over at the RAS subreddit talking about this topic) of the game in a ZIP file and will try to transfer it, but they’ve gone cold turkey since.

Hi, so I was looking for some Halloween lost media cases and stumbled upon a game from 2006 called Go-Gurt Monster Tracker. Now I say it’s partially lost because the game is backed up on Ruffle (the archival for flash games) but it was a sever game meaning it’s unplayable in its current state. You can only get so far as picking your username before it locks you out. Now what I find interesting is how there’s no gameplay footage. I found one photo from this write up of a Halloween blog from the time (https://www.i-mockery.com/blabber/2006/09/27/halloween-themed-snack-surprizes-going-online/)

I’m no expert but I believe these server games are basically impossible to recover since they ran from a server deleted long ago. What I want to search for is footage of the game so we can at least see how it played. According to the internet archive it had active screenshots from at least 2008 meaning it ran for at least 3 years and possibly more. I know recordings of flash games from that time were pretty big on YouTube so I’m sure we can find something if we use the right search terms.

I’m researching Taifû to zakuro (颱風とざくろ), a 1967 Toho film directed by Eizō Sugawa (須川栄三) and starring Yuriko Hoshi (星由里子).
Important: the film itself is not completely lost. A 35mm print is confirmed to survive at the National Film Archive of Japan (NFAJ), and another 35mm print was documented as being held by Toho.
What I’m trying to establish is the film’s home-video history. Despite extensive searching, I haven’t found evidence of an official VHS, Betamax, LaserDisc, DVD or Blu-ray release, and there is currently no normal legitimate streaming release that I can find.
At the same time, I have found evidence that private video copies existed.

The mcoba lead
An old Japanese website called mcoba had a page titled:
「ビデオ所有リスト」 — Video Holdings List
It listed:
颱風とざくろ — 須川栄三 — 星由里子、中山仁、黒沢年男、いしだあゆみ、高峰三枝子 — 67 — 109
This appears to have been a list of videos actually owned by the site’s operator, rather than simply a film database.
The original website is now offline. I’ve searched surviving Wayback Machine captures and other traces, but I haven’t been able to identify the owner or determine what happened to the recording.
So there is at least one documented private video copy whose current whereabouts are unknown.

The film survives on 35mm
I contacted the National Film Archive of Japan. Their curator told me that NFAJ purchased its 35mm print from Toho in 2009, and that the print was copied from negatives held by Toho. The NFAJ catalogue independently records the surviving 35mm print.
I also contacted Laputa Asagaya. Its manager told me they borrowed a 35mm print directly from Toho for screenings in August 2009 and August 2016. It was the same print on both occasions and was in good condition in 2016. She believes it is still stored at Toho.
This may be a separate print from the NFAJ copy.
The film was also screened at Cinema Nouveau in Osaka in November 2021, with the surviving programme information identifying it as 35mm. There were four screenings: November 13, 15, 17 and 18.
I’ve contacted Cinema Nouveau to try to establish where that 2021 print came from.
I also contacted KADOKAWA, as the 2021 screenings were associated with a KADOKAWA programme. They replied that they cannot provide information about works distributed by other companies, so they were unable to help with the film. Since the 1967 film was a Toho production, I’m continuing to pursue the other leads instead.

Another lead: the old Japanese Movie Database
The mcoba site also linked to the old Japanese Movie Database (JMDB).
Contemporary sources identify its creator as 野村裕介 (Yusuke Nomura) and give the old addresses jmdb.ne.jp and jmdb.club.ne.jp.
I’ve been investigating the old JMDB site through the Wayback Machine, but I haven’t found a verified current public contact address for Nomura.

What I’m looking for
I’m not claiming the film itself is completely lost, and I’m not asking anyone to pirate or distribute it.
I’m trying to establish whether any home-video, broadcast or collector copies survive, and particularly what happened to the private copy documented by mcoba.
I’d be very interested in hearing from anyone who:
remembers the old mcoba website or its video holdings list;
knows who operated the site or what happened to the collection;
remembers a Japanese TV broadcast of the 1967 film;
knows of a VHS/Betamax/LaserDisc/DVD or broadcast recording;
knows anything about Japanese private film collectors;
attended the 2021 Cinema Nouveau 35mm screenings;
knows where Cinema Nouveau obtained its 2021 print;
knows whether the film ever had a Japanese home-video release;
or has encountered this film in any home-video format.
Even a small piece of information could help reconstruct its circulation history.
