Update on the Escalante 5 and Torin 9 Day one to Death Review II

Here's the quick response from the Altra team:

"Thank you for contacting Altra! We are happy to look into this for you.

I have checked your order status and see that your shipping method is Ground shipping. Ground shipping takes 1–2 business days to process, plus 5-7 business days for delivery. Kindly allow until August 19, 2026, to receive your order.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions and we would be happy to assist you."

My two cents here is that Altra should be more clear on the information they are giving you. If it takes 1-2 days of processing the shipment then make the delivery: 6-9 business days. Simple and it would even clear up their CS email or message bin.

Next update on the 19.

Update on the Escalante 5 and Torin 9 Day one to Death Review

My shoes were supposed to arrive on the 14th. I paid on August 2nd. Both in Stock and supposed to arrive in 5 to 7 business days. FedEx has them on Chino Ca as of August 11 and no more updates.

Horrible way to start the Review of the whole experience huh?

Already sent an email to CS from Altra and will update when the shoes finally arrive.

QC and $$$ per KM experiment.

#MexicanGreetings everyone,

I just pulled the trigger on two pairs. Escalante 5 and Torin 9. They will arrive in 2-5 business days. The object is to clearly show the experience from getting them to actually using them. I have about 11 weeks to go for my 100k race and I will be using these for Base runs and Recovery runs. I already use the Racer 2 and the 275 as my everyday shoe and sometimes speed show (Racer 2) and the other one for my trail runs / long runs.
I'll try to report on each milestone that the shoes get as well as the problems or good things that might come up during this block. Stay tuned!

HR on wrist is actually good.

I decided to give Whoop an honest shot at keeping my money (despite the shady company behind it). It has actually been a nice surprise to see that the metrics on the "wrist" (quotation marks because I am actually wearing it higher on my wrist during workouts, about a full watch length above) are actually pretty good.
Here's the set up:
Helio strap on bicep (this is the control).
Garmin Enduro 3 on left wrist (using the Enduro's hr monitor)
Whoop 5.0 on right wrist with the T-Rex 3 Pro from Amazfit closer to the wrist bone and the Whoop about half a cm from it.
Results on some workouts:
Base Run 40’

Garmin

  • HR Avg: 140
  • Max HR: 147

Whoop 5.0

  • HR Avg: 139
  • Max HR: 147

Amazfit

  • HR Avg: 140
  • Max HR: 148

Threshold Run (10' warm up, 2x (15' at 5 minute per km pace, 5' rest), 10' cooldown.

Garmin

  • HR Avg: 141
  • Max HR: 173

Whoop 5.0

  • HR Avg: 140
  • Max HR: 170

Amazfit

  • HR Avg: 141
  • Max HR: 170

And I have some more. Long story short. Whoop is improving and I'm liking it. I hate the company and the product is too expensive BUT the improvements can't be denied.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk...grab some tacos on your way out.

Pace 4 Black Crystal not a toy?

#MexicanGreetings!
Wondering if the people that actually have a Pace 4 Black Crystal can comment if the watch still feels like a toy 🙃. I have the Pace 3 and man the watch is so light, I sometimes thing it is a Whoop band or something 🤣

Long shorts?

#MexicanGreetings everyone!
I'm looking for some nice long shorts to take in my 100k ultras. Looking for 10" or longer and lined if possible. Any other weirdos like me that can help me out?

TIA

Apex 4 + Vertix ? or Pace 4 Black Crystal + Vertix ?

#MexicanGreetings everyone! Here's my problem and why I'm asking for your enlightened input 😎
I'm a runner that basically does marathons and ultras. Currently trying to PR my marathon and then do my second 100k for the year.
I have plans of doing an Ironman in about 2 years, but next year I am doing a 100 miler if everything goes well...now the good part!
I currently train with the Pace 3 (hell of a watch for something that looks like a toy 🤣) paired to my Armband HRM and the Pod 2. I want to add to my Coros arsenal and prep for future updates, so I've decided to pull the trigger on 2 watches; one this year and the other one next year.

I love how Coros isn't trigger happy in watch updates and constantly works on the app plus the whole training part which is technically easier than going into Garmin.

Which watch should I get first (I have already decided on the next Vertix 😛) but I want to know if:

  1. Should I get the Pace 4 Black Crystal or the Apex 4 (AMOLED is not a thing I care that much about but I do enjoy it)

  2. If I wear two or three watches will the metrics count towards my training or am I going to be looking at 139 steps on Pace 3 and then 13000 on the Pace 4 and then 45 on the Apex or do they all get mixed and I get only one count?

TIA!

Best Tracker for me? Day 2 Long Run

This time I decided to use the AWU3 to see how Whoop worked with that. I also forgot to use my Coros watch to sleep because I am getting a bit annoyed by all the tracker wearing. One thing is starting to show...Whoop isn't reliable for light brown skin colored individuals even on the bicep 😛, BUT at least the average HR was spot on!

Best tracker for me? Day 1

Here's the deal. I decided to share my data from various trackers just in case someone is wondering.
Garmin Enduro 3 paired to Coros HRM (Because we all know by now that wrist based monitoring sucks)
Coros Pace 3 paired to HRM and Pod 2
Amazfit T-Rex 3 Pro paired to Helio strap
Whoop 5.0 on an arm sleeve.
Light brown colored Mexican man, 47 years old and about 80 kilos and 1.71 mts tall.
But why?! Because I am looking for an ecosystem that can give me everything:
Great training data and easy to analyze even for noobs (which I surely am)
Easy way to track sleep without being annoying
Basic notification on watch whenever I use it but not tied to using the damn thing 24/7 on my wrist.

Result of the day:

Whoop sucks even on the bicep 🤣 since I have never hit that high of a heart rate and the Easy run didn't even have a random bear attack that would explain that spike 🫠
