GKS-G PROFILE REVIEW- HOW STRONG IT SHOULD BE

Hi everyone! I’m planning to apply for GKS-G again from India and would really appreciate an honest review of my profile, especially from current/former GKS scholars or applicants who have experience with the selection process.

I applied last year but unfortunately did not pass the interview round. At that time, I did not have TOPIK, so I’ve been working on strengthening my profile since then.

Academic Background

- Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design

- CGPA: 8.67/10

- Intended field: Fashion Marketing

- Target university: Keimyung University, Fashion Business Department

Professional Experience

I have around 3.5 years of experience in the fashion/luxury industry, including:

- Fashion Consultant / Visual Merchandiser at Versace

- Visual Merchandiser & Fashion Advisor at Collective, with exposure to brands including Hackett London, Polo Ralph Lauren, etc.

- Currently working as a Brand Experience Manager at Thank Jade, a growing startup focused on Type A jadeite stones and luxury guest experiences at Fairmont Hotel.

I have also received a Best Employee with Passion award from Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail, one of India’s leading fashion retail companies.

Research / Other Activities

- 1 published research paper

- Volunteering experience

- Relevant certificates

- Fashion-related professional experience and projects

Although i think these might not affect much, since they are trying to reduce the number of certification into only 5.

Korean Language

- Currently studying Korean

- Taking Korean language lectures, including lessons with a native Korean teacher

- Sitting for TOPIK and currently aiming for TOPIK Level 2 / a very strong score

- Planning to continue improving my Korean beyond this exam

  1. How strong would you consider this profile for GKS-G?

  2. Does my transition from Fashion Design to Fashion Marketing appear coherent and convincing?

  3. Which part of my profile do you think is currently the weakest?

  4. What would you recommend I improve before applying again?

  5. How much would a TOPIK result strengthen this profile?

  6. Since I reached the interview stage last year but was unsuccessful, what areas should I particularly focus on improving this time?

I would genuinely appreciate honest criticism rather than reassurance. I’m trying to understand where the profile still has gaps and what I can realistically improve before the next application.

Thank you for your responses

MY CHOLINERGIC URTICARIA IS BACK

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share my experience and see if anyone has gone through something similar.

I first developed cholinergic urticaria around 2020. It lasted until 2022 and was quite severe. I was treated with cyclosporine and bilastine and many other steroids, and I also received omalizumab injections which cured me in 2022. During that time, I had intense reactions, including swelling of my lips, eyes, and hands, legs. Literally every part of my body, but I never found any consistent food triggers, although chocolate and wheat occasionally seemed to make things worse.

Eventually, my symptoms completely went away after the Omalizumab injection, and I was symptom-free for several years.

Unfortunately, in 2026, my cholinergic urticaria has returned. The only major change I can think of is the extreme heat this year, which I suspect may be related to the strong El Niño conditions. Heat and sweating seem to be triggering my hives again.

Oh and i have thyroid back it was very fluctuating whuch also triggered it. Right now when i checked all reports vame back normal and my doctor said theres nothing to worry. But its increasing day by day and nobody knows why.

Has anyone experienced a long remission followed by a relapse? If so, what helped you manage it naturally or reduce the frequency of flares? I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences. Its just that its mentally draining me and i feel like i lost the confidence in doing anything. It scares me

Thank you!

IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET LEVEL 3 WITHIN 5 MONTHS?

Ok So i have been taking korean classes and it had been really fun and amazing up this day. I just had my level 1 exam today from my academy and i think i did good there. I am good at framing sentences but the grammar particles is where i am getting stuck.

I am appearing for Topik 1 &2 this october. And i want to get 200 in topik 1(i am just giving myself a task to achieve) also, since i have also applied for Topik 2, i am aiming for atleast level 3 (like even borderline mark is good).

I wonder what are some of the grammar particles i should study to get Level 3? Can any of you help me with the phrases i should study?

And what kind of vocabulary should I prepare?

Can anyone help me prep for topik 2 with your suggestions or TOPIK experiences? Any book suggestions online/offline or a dictionary? Anything which can improve?

Thank you for all your responses !!

Grammar dilemma

Can anyone let me know how to differentiate 이/가 and 은/는. I have been trying to understand the sentence structure, its really confusing while practicing writing. Can someone simplify the terms?

For instance what i understood is that 은/는 indicates old information(topic particle) and

이/가 indicates new information(subject particle). But its still perplexing me.

PROFESSOR EMAIL-LOI QUERY

I recieved a reply email from a professor about my research interests and GKS-G 2027 plans. The professor replied positively, saying my industry experience aligns well with the department's research areas.

He also said my experience would be a valuable asset for graduate-level research if I'm admitted through GKS and encouraged me to prepare a clear, focused study plan to strengthen my application.

Since this was a positive response, would it be appropriate to send a polite reply asking whether they would be willing to provide a Letter of Invitation (LOI) Or would that be considered too early or inappropriate? Has anyone here successfully obtained an LOI from a Korean professor for GKS after receiving a similar email? Can anyone help me understand?

International student experiences

Hi everyone!

I'll be joining Keimyung University soon for the Fashion Business program, and I'm really excited! I wanted to hear from current students or alumni about what life at Keimyung is actually like.

I have a few questions:

How are the dorms? Have there been any recent renovations or changes?

What are the rooms, bathrooms, laundry facilities, Wi-Fi, kitchens, and common areas like? I mean cleanliness of dorms, and staff behaviour etc.

Are there any strict dorm rules (curfew, room inspections, visitors, etc.)?

How are the campus facilities overall—library, gym, cafeterias, study spaces, convenience stores, and transportation?

If you've lived both on-campus and off-campus, which did you prefer and why?

Is there anything you wish you had known before starting at Keimyung?

Also hows the korean lifestyle comparatively for foriegn students, is it accessible? And what are the ither things i should keep in mind other than language barriers?

I'd really appreciate honest opinions—the good, the bad, and everything in between. If you have any photos or personal experiences to share, that would be amazing.

Thank you!
