Page loop mode?

Editing sequences on OP-XY. If I'm making changes to bar 4, I have to listen through the preceding bars to hear the part I'm editing. This gets old quite fast. Elektron gear has page loop feature that will just loop the one page (or bar) that you're sequencing.

Does OP-XY have something like this?

Thanks for any insight.

DigitaktII + midi controlled synth - workflow questions

I have a Minilogue XD module and Roland A-49 midi keyboard. It's my first Elektron device and I'm loving it, but running into some workflow questions as I go. I am a novice to this world, probably missing something obvious. Hope it's ok to ask here.

Setup: The A-49 midi is connected to the DT2's midi-in. The DT2's midi-out is connected to the Minilogue's midi-in. The minilogue's audio-out is connected to the DT2's audio-in for sampling. Everything is working great, the DT2 can record midi notes and passes them onto the Minilogue.

I can use the MIDI track on DT2 to play the Minilogue, mostly live recording but editing trigs too.

I would like to sample the Minilogue's part to the DT2, then play/ manipulate it on entirely on the DT2. What is the best way to achieve this? For now, I'm just using a simple liquid DnB bassline.

I've tried recording a single note, using a one-shot machine track, but when I play it back using A-49 to trigger the track, it puts my recorded sample onto the wrong keyboard key so all the notes are not correctly placed or sounding when I press A-49 keys.

I've also tried recording multiple notes (or the entire part), then using the Slice machine so that each note plays at the correct pitch. However, it puts the slices one after another on the keyboard which is not where they would be playing them live.

What is the best way to capture a synth's voice and then be able to adjust and play with it on the DT2?

Thanks for any insight.

Pitch Bend (DigitaktII)

I'm learning how to get my DT2 to record midi notes and work with gear.

Is there any way to record pitch bend input from my midi keyboard? I can't seem to find any way, and a fair amount of doom posts about it when I google.

Am I missing something? Have they added this functionality since the old doom posts I'm reading online?

Thanks for any insight

Suddenly my left hand is better

Not sure what I'm really asking with this post; I think I just want to share a surreal experience I'm having at the kit.

I've been playing drums for many years, but only making a serious attempt at learning, studying and applying myself for 8 months. Playing every day, going over rudiments, working through GL Stone and other books, playing with metro and learning to count, all that good stuff.

At the drum kit I've always been right handed, having to work quite hard to keep up with my left arm and foot. I'm right handed in life, but ambidextrous for some things and left handed for a few things (no idea why I'm like this).

In the last month or so, for some reason, my left hand has become very crisp and accurate. It's strongly on time, executing double and triple strokes crisply. My hi-hat foot has also come a long way, able to be much more playful and expressive. That feeling of strength and safety that used to accompany leading with my right, now I feel leading with the left.

Practicing rudiments lately and my right hand is really struggling to land double hits in sequences (e.g. when playing 16th notes RRLLRRLLRRLLRRLL). Feels like I can't quite grip the stick as well as left hand, and always falling out of time during rolls. I am still practicing an equal number of times leading with each side.

Has anyone every experienced this? It feels quite surreal and somewhat concerning.

I feel like I know what the answer is; I need to take extra time to practice where I'm struggling, keep drilling and leading with right hand until the old feeling comes back.

It just feels so bizarre to suddenly have a stronger left arm than right. I'm sitting here this morning feeling a bit frustrated and confused. Somehow to write about it and share with other drummers seemed like the right idea.

DigitaktII as an introduction to Elektron

Oh my. DigitaktII as my introduction to Elektron. Day 1, we're learning what the terminology is, how to set trigs live and in REC edit. Then we realise we can just touch any trig and change anything about it (even what sample it plays). We can target LFOs anywhere. We can reach send FX so cleanly.

I'm a drummer so I loaded in some samples (Transfer app is mercifully easy to use, sample management looks like it will be a breeze) and put together a 4 bar beat. Even with a handful of basic samples, you can get such expressive sound, editing so easily to change trigs to sound like ghost hits, playful rolls or accents. LFO targeting is so fast, I experimented with hi-hats syncd to time to alternate accents. I was dialled in to the sound.

It's just so dizzyingly immediate and smooth. You start to intuit how they put menus and controls together. Soon, things I didn't know about were exactly where I thought they would be. Button combinations, the logic just comes together and the functions you want are where you want them.

Damn, what a first session. DigitaktII is incredible. Elektron have found a really great interface and user experience / workflow. Really looking forward to gaining more fluency and confidence.

What case are we using?

Part of what makes MPC sample so cool is its portability.

What cases (or other solutions) are we using to keep it mint while in the backpack?

Thanks for any insight!

How are you positioning TX-6 on your studio desk?

I have a TX-6 that I'm using for my home studio desk. It's a fantastic thing with great features, options and connectivity. Its tiny size is really appreciated on my small desk.

I am having an issue with placement / cables. Keeping it at the back of my desk keeps all the cables out of the way, but its small controls and screen are much better suited to being in the middle of the action closer to me.

The master out wants to run to my desktop monitors, which are away from me toward the back of the desk. That cable has to come out towards me and then immediately turn to run back away - not ideal.

I feel like I can't quite get it right. How have you positioned this unit tidily and ergonomically into your setup?

Thanks for any insight.

In case it matters, I'm on a medium sized standing desk with monitors at the back. I have anywhere from 2-6 inputs on the TX-6 in use at a time and the usb to my computer for audio interface. I have the main master out going to my monitors and I use headphones in the cue jack too.

Analog Rytm MKII as a midi sequencer?

I'm new to Elektron's ecosystem and trying to figure out which unit might suit my workflow. I was looking for a midi sequencer to sequence other gear, when someone recommended me the Digitakt. It looks amazing but I already have a sampler that I get on with, so that functionality would be redundant.

I am looking for a drum synth/ machine, so the Analog Rytm MKII looks good.

Is the Analog Rytm MKII as capable a MIDI sequencer as the Digitakt? Should I consider any of Elektron's other offerings?

Thanks for any insight

Backpack DJ Controller with 3 band EQ?

I've been DJing out of a backpack for a couple of months. It suits my style and lets me learn by playing anywhere. Right now I'm using Reloop's Ready controller with Serato (M1 Macbook) and Minirigs.

The Ready is a passable controller with some minor issues (e.g. cue volume knobs on the side), but the 2 band EQ feels so limiting.

I've had a look but i thought I'd ask in case I missed anything. Is there a travel friendly (ideally backpack) DJ controller that has 3 band EQ?

Thanks for any inspiration.

MIDI thru box for KOII

I've been looking for a sequencer to coordinate some equipment, when I found out here that the KOII could handle this role. I have a keyboard midi controller that I'd like to use to record inputs on KOII, controlling a Minilogue XD and some Moog semi-modular units.

This is my first foray into multi unit MIDI, so I wanted to ask before getting the wrong thing.

-Will the KOII handle this role?

-Will a CME WIDI Thru6 BT or Kenton Midi Thru Box (Thru 5) work for allowing the KOII to control multiple devices?

Thank you for any insight.

Roland V-Drums Mesh Head Tension Adjustment

Hi edrummers,

I am a novice (but eager learner) with an accidental great kit. It is a Roland TD-50 kit with mesh head drum pads all around the kit, but it has not been played seriously for many years.

What should I do to ensure the mesh heads are correctly tensioned/ adjusted? I've consulted the wiki here but couldn't find an answer, and Roland's own advice on their website is very vague.

While I'm here I should also ask, are there any other maintenance or care issues I should bear in mind with this kit? I feel like a child driving a Ferrari.

Thank you for any insight, I appreciate it.

OB-4 - Could you sample audio from it?

Looking at the OB-4, love the idea of listening to the radio and then being able to go back and sample things.

Is there a clean way to sample out of it? Line out or something?

Thanks for any insight.

Why are Moog monosynths good?

I am a learner finding my way in this world of sound.

Please help me understand why many of Moogs present offerings are monosynths? The Mother32 and Messenger are priced comparably to other analog polysynths on the market.

Coming from a place of genuine ignorance and curiosity, is this just a brand that can command higher prices, or is there something about what they're doing that I'm missing? Moog seems to be a historic, influential and well regarded brand so I feel I am missing a point.

Thanks for any insight.

Korg Minilogue XD - Sanity Check

Hi there r/Syntheizers! I'm looking for a quick sanity check from more experienced users before investing in this unit.

I picked up a Roland Boutique JP-08 back in the pandemic and have had a lot of fun with it, but the audio output is very hot/noisy (wild that Roland released it like this, but it is a known issue). Switching to batteries eliminates the issue but I'm tired of burning through them, it just is annoying to work with.

I'm ready for a more substantial unit. Having done some reading and surveyed the market I've settled on the Korg Minilogue XD. It seems plenty broad and powerful, well reviewed, and fits into the small space I have. Its keyboard should also be a nice step up from the Roland K-25m sitting under my JP-08.

I can get second hand units for about $500(US) where I am, which is just within my budget.

I think this is a well priced purchase for a modest beginner like me. I'm looking for a broad synth, primarily to bring me fun and enjoyment for many years. It must fulfil a wide range of roles and work well with my DAW and other gear (modest samplers and sequencers). Have I got it right with the Korg Minilogue XD or have I overlooked something?

Thanks for any insight

Arrange mode: Can we re-order our patterns?

Is there a way to reorganise the order of patterns in arrange mode? They're vertically stacked - is there a way to move them so that the patterns run in the order I want from top to bottom?

I've read the manual and Synthdawg guide but can't find mention of something like this.

Thank you.

Crossfader gets louder at ends

I've been learning since March, using Hercules DJControl Inpulse 500 and Serato Pro.

I've noticed that the crossfader makes each deck louder when fully to the side. I'd say it feels like both decks are at 85% when it is in the middle, but move it all the way to the side and towards the end, that side's deck gets louder.

This is a little bit annoying. I use the upfaders for most of my mixing but I am using the crossfader for some things, and I notice this volume effect quite a bit when I do.

I've looked around in the settings on Serato Pro, and the manual for my DJ Controller but I can't find anything about this.

Is there a way to set it so that the volume for each deck is flat/ consistent towards the end of the crossfader's movement, or am I doomed to have louder ends?

Thanks for any help or enlightenment.

SP404MK2 Step Sequencing?

Been considering this unit, reading review and so on. Some reviews criticise it for lack of a step sequencing/editing mode, saying you're reliant on realtime recording (albeit with quant) to create patterns. Other reviews say you can create and edit patterns on a step level.

So, does the SP404MK2 allow this or not? Thanks for clarity!

Best bag or case for EP series?

How are we transporting our EP series units safely? Are the official bags worthwhile?

Looking for any good products out there that fit these for backpack (or similar) duty.

EP-133 KOII - Pressure sensitivity + expression

New to KOII, having fun learning so far. Using the Synthdawg guide, TE online guide and some youtube videos to get up to speed.

Having an issue recreating pressure sensitivity when recording... In the Synthdawg guide, and in some videos, I see people recording hi-hat using pressure sensitivity to get more expression. I've attached a description of this effect from the guide. You can also see this in this Andertons video at 13:05 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjW6_BuXN_4

https://preview.redd.it/ws88hzavuo0h1.png?width=538&format=png&auto=webp&s=df7a373dde8bb1fceccaf0ac961b3c36d885402d

I'm holding timing (set to 16th scale) and pressing the pad with a closed hi-hat sound loaded on it, but no matter what pressure I use I always just get the same, normal hi-hat sound with no pressure variation. I've tried with quant on and off, no difference, it just plays the hi-hat sound at 16th note intervals.

I've tested the unit and the pressure sensitivity is working (e.g. for punch in effects).

What have I overlooked? Thank you for any help

EDIT: Thanks ocubens for the solution! The KOII unit has a system setting for pad velocity sensitivity which is off by default. You can see here https://teenage.engineering/guides/ep-133/system for how to access and alter that setting. Issue resolved, beats now sounding as I had hoped.

Been having a blast with PO.33 KO, looking to upgrade. General internet consensus from spending some time reading and watching reviews appears to be that the Riddim is the better unit of the three EP models.

My use case is simply having fun sampling things, enjoying sound for my own amusement (and the occasional chuckles of those within earshot). I don't mind too much about preset samples and would be happy to load any from the other units if I wanted them.

Should I just go for the Riddim, or have I overlooked something?
