Crunch or ATL 24/7?

I am looking for a gym close to work. Primary needs are sauna and space to do exercises like bench, squat, deadlift, overhead press. I am switching to a mostly home based work out routine but would like a place I can pop in quick, do a set of squat, sit in the sauna, and leave. I've read mixed reviews of the sauna situation at Crunch here and so wanted to restart the conversation.

It would be nice if the locker rooms and showers were clean enough that I'd feel comfortable showering and going into work. For reference, I am an LA fitness member and have regularly used locations in North Decatur, Kennesaw, and Wade Green, none of which had clean enough locker rooms to make me not feel the need to shower a second time once I got home.

Best and Quickest Cure for Bookshelf

Hi all - bought some shelving pine to make some bookshelves with cinder blocks in a place I’ll only be living for a year. What’s the best way to finish them taking into account a quick cure time. I don’t want piles of books laying around. Usually use General Finishes Arm R poly but that requires 30 days to cure before loading with books.

Looking for something that will be simple, quick curing, and matte/not changing the color much.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

"Power Lifting" to Calisthenics? Or "Less time for gym"

Hi all – about a year ago I switched my workouts to be focused almost entirely around 'power lifting' exercises (deadlift, squat, bench). I did this mostly because I wanted workouts that focused on larger portions of my body. Machines and more muscle isolating exercises were causing minor injuries.

Unfortunately, I will need to move next month and my work schedule/commute+new location will make getting to the gym a bit of a chore. I'm wondering if there are ways I can work at-home calisthenic routines into my life while perhaps popping in for short sessions at the workplace gym?

Or generally, any recommendations for situations where gym time is hard to come by! Thanks in advance!

Advice for Setting Up New Chisels

Hi all, was recently in Tokyo in came home with a beautiful set of five new bench chisels. Got pretty busy upon return and haven't been able to get to setting them up yet (haven't even done the ferrules).

Previous bench chisels were more at the beginner level. The set I use most was worked for long periods on kingfisher whetstones to unsatisfactory results. I eventually took them to a sharpener who did pretty well with them. My concern with using the sharpener with these new chisels is (a) I lose out on technique and care for my own tools and (b) his primary gig is knife sharpening.

In any case, open space for advice here. Should I buy new stones? Take them to the sharpener? Please feel free to link me to older posts and information as fits the rules of the sub. Thanks in advance!

New Floor Sleeping Seeks Bedding Advice (re: humidity, etc.)

Hi all – I am moving into a new place in a few weeks. It is only a year long stay where I am essentially looking after a friend's house until they sell it next year. I spent a few weeks in May/June in Japan and was reminded of how much I prefer sleeping on/near the floor. Not going fully furniture free, but at work on a floor desk in the woodshop and looking to make my bed room all floor.

My primary question/s are concerned with bedding. I initially thought to go with a futon/tatami set up in full or queen size. However, I live in the American SE where it is quite humid in the summer and I worry about mold. I'm not sure I'd be able to completely air out my bedding every day. The place I am moving is a new build with climate control/central HVAC, so that cuts down on some of the indoor humidity. It is in a complex of townhouses with no yards or outdoor space, though, which make the airing of things difficult (I will basically have one window that opens in the bedroom).

I would really appreciate suggestions on climate conducive and cost effective methods here, including anyone who wants to convince me I will be fine with a futon and tatami. Also, I have looked at the pinned posts but if you think directing me to something specific there would be useful, please do.

Thanks so much!

Yamato Advice/Question (Air BnB drop off)

Hi all. I read the very useful "Luggage Forwarding: What You Need to Know" thread from 8 months ago and still have at least one remaining question. Let me lay out the context of my situation, which I think will help with responses: I am traveling for 6 weeks, the last 3 of which are in Japan. For a number of reasons (many work-related, that there are items I will be picking up along the way), I've had to bring a full sized luggage that I do not want to take on the trains and public transit in Japan. I will be staying primarily at BnBs and one private residence in Kyoto and would like to forward my luggage along the following sequence:

Airport->BnB (Tokyo)
Tokyo-> Nagoya
Nagoya -> Kyoto
Kyoto-> Airport (Tokyo)

I am aware that the best option is have bags delivered to nearby delivery points, for example, 7/11. My question:

Can I drop bags at similar sites to be picked up or do I have to find a Yamato center? For example, can I drop my bags at the same 7/11 I pick them up at in Tokyo if I want them to be transferred to Nagoya?

Assuming the general issue I am trying to sort if clear, any further advice anyone would have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
