RIP to this purple guy, gone too soon

Got hit by a taxi who rolled a stop sign at a blind intersection (I had no stop sign). Insurance company totaled it. Bought it used with 10k miles and only had it for a year.

Big Shoutout To Rialto on Astoria Blvd

I wanted to give a big shout out to Rialto. My partner and I like to go here for a more slow paced date night dinner, and we always have a great time. If you're interested in an upscale italian restaurant experience, with good food, excellent service, and just overall good vibes, this is the spot.

A couple of reasons why i love it:

  • Slow pace - The service is always attentive, but never rushed. My partner and I can spend a few hours sipping on wine or drinking decaf espresso without every being rushed out (I feel like this can be hard to come by in a lot of spots)
  • Excellent Service - Similarly, the service here is great. The staff is very attentive and super friendly. Anytime you need something, they are there
  • After dinner digestif - Often they will treat you to a little limoncello or grappa at the end of your meal. It pairs perfectly with their espresso (Which i recommend) and a dessert
  • Half pasta portions - We love splitting a half pasta portion and a protein. It's the perfect size after you've already had an appetizer or two.
  • You'll always get a spot and it's never cramped - The space is huge, you'll never feel like you're shoulder to shoulder with the table next to you, also rare to find in the city.

The space itself is very nice, they have an excellent bar in the front of the restaurant if that's you're vibe with big comfy bar stools. They also have a really back yard/outdoor garden area that is huge. I almost wish they opened the backyard more as a separate, more casual vibed bar (Maybe a cheeky aperol spritz deal/happy hour).

It's a bit off the beaten path on Astoria Blvd, but it's worth the extra travel. It's great for a slow-paced date night, and also great for large family dinners. The food is very good with a few Venetian-Italian dishes (Tho i wish they had a few more Venetian specialties). I know this probably sounds like an ad, but i just really like this spot and want to make sure they do well so they stay in the neighborhood.

Edit: Some folks have been saying this was AI, i literally wrote the entire thing by hand. So i ran it through an ai detection website: https://i.imgur.com/ukFLMgT.png

Could I get some feedback on my App Store Screenshots? I'm not great at marketing

Hey folks, I'm an engineer trying to get better at marketing. I built out these app store screenshots with some HTML templates i put together, they're definitely simple, but honestly i prefer it that way. Are you able to get a sense of what the app can do? Any feedback is much appreciated.

Does keeping up with the news make you want to stick your head in the sand, but you still feel like you want to keep up with things? I built concur.news to hopefully solve exactly that.

My platform takes the sensationalism out of the news and makes it easy to keep up with things. On social media, or cable news, the goal is to take as much time as possible from you, leveraging sensationalism and old news to invoke a response to keep you scrolling and to keep your attention. My app is designed to be respectful of your time, news is organized in the order that it was reported.

The app is still new, and I've got a long way to go. But I'm really passionate about this project, the foundation is there but there's still a lot of tools i can create and more progress to be made. I just launched on iOS and Android this week, so I would love for you to check it out. Let me know what you think, and if you have ideas on new features.

Some things I learned along the way:

RSS feeds can be a super easy way to get started, but only some outlets have them and you will eventually outgrow them

A ton of sites use RSS still, which makes things super easy, but you will eventually outgrow them. Often sites will editorialize RSS feeds, so they aren't complete. Also, they can be inconsistent and delayed.

Marketing is Hard

I started using HTML templates to generate instagram content, which turned out pretty well. The content look professional and I'm able to share news stories in a social media format. Still, getting started on social media can be incredible difficult. I think I'm going to have to expand marketing to videos of myself in order to start getting some traction.

Finding 12 friends with Androids is harder than it sounds

Google Play requires 12 people to install your app and keep it installed for 2 weeks before you can apply for production on the Play Store. A lot more of friends had iPhones than I expected so this turned out to be harder than expected (Or maybe I just dont have a lot of friends ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ).

If I did it again, i would leverage a google group instead of a plain email list. It makes it a lot easier for people to join your test on Android, and easier to get people to join without having to ask them for their email.

Future Features I'm thinking about:

[WIP] Campaign Finance Overviews

When senators and legislators are mentioned in the News, their name will be 'clickable'. You will see an overview of their campaign finance directly in the context of the news that's being reported.

This featured is nearly finished, I should have a release out this week.

Related Stories Timeline

Stories are constantly changing over weeks or months. I want to chain together events so you can really get a good idea of how things developed over time and keep track of that.

Anyways, thanks for taking the time to read my wall of text. If you check it out, let me know your thoughts.
