Really cool opportunity for any professionals in this subreddit, Nature Picture Library are looking for paleoartists to represent.
I can attest that they are legit and pay their contributors fairly, I've worked with them for years. Could be a good opportunity for anyone wanting to be commercial with their art!
It is unbearably hot in the UK right now, too hot even for New Caledonian geckos. My strategy for keeping cool is this:
- Leave windows open at night to allow cool air in, and shut them along with blinds/curtains during the day to keep heat out.
- Re-usable ice packs on the top mesh - it's very important to insulate these with a thin cloth. It allows the cool air to sink into the enclosure but not the ice cold condensation.
- Periodic light sprays with a fine mist of room temperature water. You do not want the enclosure soaking wet all the time, and you should not use cold water, ever.
- Combine periodic sprays with a desk fan blowing a gentle breeze into the enclosure with the doors open. This will allow air to circulate and replace the hot, humid air with cooler dry air. Naturally it's important to stay in the room and watch closely to ensure no escapees.
