Anybody Have Long-Term Experience With Zalem’s Collapsible Cockpits?

I have been wanting to upgrade from the playseat challenge to a profile rig, but I’m probably not going to have the space for a dedicated sim or hobby room anytime soon.

Came across these rigs that slide in to save space from Zalem. They are ideally perfect for my situation. However, they are Spain based and only ship to the EU, while I am in the US. I found a service that would forward Spanish mail to the USA, and the total including the rig would be around $1,100.

This is a price I am willing to pay for this cockpit, because it is a unique cockpit that relieves a specific pain point. However, I am wanting a cockpit that I will have for the rest of my life and don’t intend on buying another.

Does anybody here have experience with this cockpit for a decent amount of time? If so, what has your experience been, and are there any weakness or signs you notice that it could break in the long term? The sliding portion makes me quite skeptical about the durability of this rig. Would hate for it to snap after years of trailbraking.

Thanks for your feedback!

Driving Safe is SICK!

Overtakes are cool, but anybody else get a rush from being patient, surviving race start shenanigans, slowing down during yellow flags, and letting dangerous drivers by (#8 Lambo at the end of this clip is the perfect example LOL). Just me? Okay.

A satisfying P17 to P10, 45 minute IMSA race, with no crashes. Let's celebrate the simple things in sim racing haha.

Feels like the MX-5 is driving me rather than me driving the car

Made a post yesterday about wanting to drive the mx-5, as a 2K gt3 main, to broaden my skillset and touch up on some much needed fundamentals. While there are differing opinions on if low power/downforce cars actually help you in high level cars; I want to learn it regardless just so I can participate and have fun in other series outside of gt3/imsa like dave cam.

The mx-5 has been my kryptonite and I’m always spinning or crashing it. Drove it until rookies and then it was GR86 (which I regret because of how easy it is) and up. Anyways, dedicated all of yesterday to just driving the mx-5 in some practice sessions; and feel like I’m starting to get a better feel and make progress, despite being slow as a snail.

The one thing I’ve been a bit uneasy with is, I always feel like I’m a passenger in my own car. A corner comes up, I brake gently, trail off, and then the car just flies and brings me along for the ride lol it feels like I’m not even the one controlling it but its magically going where it needs to go with barely any steering.

Is this feeling of being out of control the norm for non-down force cars? Because of this feeling of just watching the car fly on its own, I find it difficult to make quick changes in direction. I struggle with chicanes, hairpins, or evading another car near me.

Uploaded some laps from my practice session at charlotte for the rookies. My best lap was 1:39 but average around 1:40-1:41 and get smoked by much lower iratings 😂 Any tips and tricks to help me drive this car better? No ego here, just someone with the desire to learn!

How did the Mazda MX-5 Help You in Higher Level Sports Cars?

I am a 2-2.3k GT3 driver depending on the track of the week, but am a one trick pony. I can only drive GT3’s and am always in the walls or gravel in the mx5, gt4’s, gtp’s, etc. The only other sports car I can somewhat compete in is the gr86, that is known to be one of the easiest cars out there.

Coming from ACC, my main focus has always been GT3’s and this has caused me to be spoiled by the downforce, higher power, abs, tc, etc. I send the car up the inside, brake hard and turn late, to overtake others knowing that in any other car I would’ve been sliding off the track.

Am looking to do a season in the mx-5 to work on my fundamentals like a lot of people suggest; since it’s frustrating when I can’t enjoy any other series if I’m not in a GT3.

After sacrificing and dedicating some time to the MX-5, how did it improve your driving in GT3’s and other sports cars? Just wanted to hear others perspectives since the each car has its own quirks and driving style you need to make it work. Interesting to see how they all relate and translate to another with GT3’s being much easier.

Thanks for your feedback!

Speed or Comfort? Which one are you picking?

I race the McLaren religiously, but decided to see what the fuss was all about, and tried out the Ford Handicap, I mean Mustang.

I was immediately able to beat my PB by nearly .5 seconds, within 3 laps of using the car for the first time ever; and my average race lap was also quicker despite taking some significant damage to the rear.

However, I hate the car. Don’t like how it looks, feels, etc. and the whole concept of intentionally using a car that’s OP like others are doing is a bit lame. BUT it is quick and lets you put up a better fight against the others.

I’m sure I’m not the only one thinking this. Are you guys sticking with your usual cars, or did you join the darkside and use the mustang despite it not being your first choice, so you can get better placements?

Recommendations for positive spotters?

Hey guys, anybody know any of the included iracing spotter voices that is possibly more positive?

I use the default one, but he’s a bit of a debbie downer lol. There are times where I have an unconventionally good race like messing up qualifying and finishing P14 after starting P35.

I cross the finish line happy and then the “better schedule some testing… we’re going…” kills my vibe 😂

Pass me if you can!

Super fun defensive battle against this mustang. I could tell he had more raw pace than me from the beginning. Even told him to have the inside line for an easy pass so we wouldn’t lose time during the early race. He didn’t take it and I was able to pull away for a bit.

He caught me again 15 minutes later, but the race was near its end with the next car 3 seconds ahead, so this led to a fun battle to protect my P5.

The Highest of Highs and Lowest of Lows All in One Lap

Qualified 8th and got hit by a turn 1 champion, but the car wasn’t too damaged.

Rejoined the race from the back and was having a good time passing all the snails trying to make the most of the situation. Pulled off the most satisfying lunge up the inside to reclaim a position that was taken from me while avoiding a crash.

Then, Poland’s finest showed up with a state of the art rejoin to end it all. The show goes on.

Soured Win, But I’ll Take It

Qualified P2 and held my pace back in the slipstream all race until the last lap to keep the advantage, before trying to make a move. Managed to get the inside at the bus stop, but had some contact, because it looks like they tried to take me out. This guy was weaving in the straights, diving into my line if I even slightly passed him, and trying to run me off track every lap until the end.

Always hate it when gaining a position involves some significant contact. Makes it feel somewhat illegitimate. Ruined the feeling of my first ever win in F4, but will take it, sigh.

Is my driving style a detriment when formula racing?

Hey guys, I race gt3’s as my main series, but have been dabbling in formula racing as of yesterday since I’ve always been a fan.

All the guides I’ve watched explain that compared to sports cars with abs, Formula cars often brake later, hard, and trail off very quickly. The brake telemetry looks like a sharp spike compared to sports cars that have a plateau.

The late hard braking thing has always been difficult and unnatural for me, so I’ve been leaning towards my natural driving style of lifting to not overlap throttle and brake, braking earlier but lighter, and then guiding the car through the apex and exit.

This technique actually makes me faster and maintains tire temps in gt3’s over the span of a race, but I’m unsure if it’s hurting me in formula cars. I’ve been qualifying top 3, but it’s 1300 SOF and spa is my best track, so doesn’t mean much. Any tips for my driving style based off this footage? Asking about my braking and throttle technique specifically, not a track guide, thanks!

Seiko NH72 Seconds Hand Pinion Worn Out and Now Won't Fit New Hands

Hey guys, so I was building a watch and had a defective seconds hand that unfortunately i caught once I had already installed it. The tube that mounts onto the pinion was not secured firmly to the actual hand and was swinging around.

When attempting to remove the second hand, I the hand just flung off with the tube still attached to the movement. My only option with my current tools and knowledge was to use some pliers to pull it off of the second hand pinion, which it did.

While I thought it worked, unfortunately it appears the second hand pinion is worn down a bit, and now new seconds hands don't fit firmly. Are there any solutions for this, or can anybody direct to me to some guides on how to take apart the NH72 movement and replace the second wheel (I've got a few wheels I could use from some older spare movements and I've always wanted to learn more beyond simple watch assembly).

Really hoping I could save this movement because prices are getting expensive and this is the second time I've had a second hand pinion issue. Waiting another 10 days for a new movement sucks.

Appreciate the help!

Porsche Cup Drivers, Any Tips On How I Can Better Control This Beast?

I primarily race the McLaren GT3, and am a 2.2K IR driver. I've never really been able to comfortably drive the Porsche cup without feeling like I'm going to unexpectedly crash out at any moment. Saw that it's racing on Spa this week so I thought why not give it a shot?

Per usual, the car feels so scary and uncomfortable. Any tips on how I should change my driving style to better handle the porsche cup? Skipped through the mx-5, gt4, and other lower down force cars and went straight to GT3's once I got B license so I put this on myself lol.

My technique to staying alive in this car is pretty much lifting and braking really early and gradually, and being gentle on the throttle during exit as well. It almost feels like I'm babying the car too much, but if I try to push, I can't control it. I see other people putting up times faster than GT3's, and would love to learn how to tame this beast.

Appreciate it.

Why did you think this was going to work? Hahaha

Not a rant. I myself and the car behind me, slowed down and made it through alive, even with a car crashing into the wall right infront of me.

Just came across this guy in the replay and thought it was hilarious. Genius stuff.

McLaren vs. Mercedes: GT3 Battle to the Checkered Flag

Had a great race battling with this Mercedes to the end. Sometimes you just gotta lift, let them have eau rouge, and trust the slipstream process.

The Finer Things in Life and Higher Splits

Been climbing the ranks and getting into splits in the mid 2000’s now and man, the quality of safety and racing really does get better. It just hit me this race so I had to clip this simple, yet beautiful segment of my last race 😂

Everybody makes it through turn 1 smoothly with no crazy divebombs. Somebody then spun at raidillon which unfortunately caused some crashes, it happens, BUT the vast majority of the pack slowed down, drove cautiously, and then picked up the throttle once the coast was clear.

Spa was a death trap when I was raced it in previous seasons in the 1000s, but the ease of mind I have now, to just focus on racing other people hard and trusting the drivers to keep it clean, which they do, is simply lovely 👌
