Cursed Technique: Predestination

Cursed Technique: Predestination

(note that this ain't just WoU as a CT, I just used it as inspiration. Plus he's cool af so he gets to stay)

Overview

The Predestination cursed technique is a rather formidable technique owned by an equally formidable curse user. The Predestination cursed technique is like a mind game, messing with the target's instincts; the more the target tries to prevent something, the more they end up causing it.

Lapse

To activate this cursed technique, the user must place a "mark" on the desired target (whom of which must be a conscious being). This circular mark is placed onto the target via physical contact, and only one mark can be placed until the first mark is removed (thus only one being can be targeted by this technique at a time). Once a mark is placed, the Predestination cursed technique will activate.

Once the Predestination cursed technique is activated, the target is given a "message". This message isn't a physical note, a voice in the target's mind, etc. This message almost acts like a natural instinct that the target has always known. The exact details of this message vary from each use this technique, but they all essentially say the same thing; something bad will happen.

Whether this bad thing is being hit by a car, falling off a building, getting hit with a black flash, etc, this "bad event" will always happen no matter what (an exact time of this event is not given or guaranteed, but it usually falls around 15 minutes after the technique is first activated). However, it is up to the target how impactful that event is.

Once given the message, the severity of this event is determined by how much the target tries to prevent it. For example, if the event is being hit by a strong punch, that punch is guaranteed to happen eventually. But if the target continuesly hides from the user or continuesly holds a blocking stance, the severity of that punch will only be strengthened.

The only way for the target to protect themselves from this event is to do the opposite; to not protect themselves at all. Using the previous example, if the target does nothing to prevent the strong punch from hitting them, the punch's overall power will be severely decreased to such a degree that it does practically no damage.

Binding Vow: Law of Equivalent Exchange

(it's technically not a learnable technique, but that's the closest flair here for a binding Vow)

The construction cursed technique can easily be a formidable technique when placed in the right hands; the problem is, almost no sorcerer is considered to have the "right hands".

At first glance, construction is an insanely strong technique, allowing the user to create basically anything they can think of as long as they knew how to make it, and they had the CE to create it. The main problem, however, is that almost no user of this technique has the CE required, whether that be through CE reserves or CE output.

Even Yorozu, the strongest construction cursed technique user (that we know of), had to find every possible way to make her technique more viable (in this case being the use of "bug armor"). And this is because of the CE required for proper use of the construction cursed technique. If a Heian-era sorcerer had to find any way possible to make their technique viable due to the CE costs, then something is obviously wrong with the technique itself, not the user.

However, this problem (and most other problems that come up with sorcery) can easily be solved with a binding vow. The primary binding vow being discussed is that of a third construction user, whom of which is currently unknown. The binding vow and it's rules are as follows:

In exchange for permanently losing to ability to create objects out of just the user's cursed energy alone, two benefits are gained;

  1. The user seemingly gains the ability to reshape any nonliving, tangible matter around them to make any object, whether that he by changing its form, properties, etc. However, this is only possible if they have access to the "required" amount of said matter to make that object (if the desired object has a volume of 5 cubic feet, then the user needs a grand total of 5 cubic feet of available matter).

  2. The CE required to use the technique is nearly split in half.

It should be noted, however, that this binding vow does not eliminate all flaws/drawbacks of the construction technique; the user still has to know how to make the desired object to create it using their technique.

This binding vow only benefits the overall utilization of the construction technique, not the beforehand requirements needed to use it.

So, it's already been established that the shikigami of the 10S technique are gone forever once they are killed, right?

What I'm wondering is; does this "gone forever" rule apply to shikigami in general? Or does it only apply to the 10S.

Like, were told that basic shikigami can be created by basically any sorcerer. Are those basic shikigami forced to abide by the "gone forever" rule?

(really just I stupid question of mine. Love shikigami as a concept but I don't want the lil dudes to be gone forever 🥀)

Grade One Cursed Spirit: Kawataro

Background:

Kawataro, otherwise known as the Kappa by various locals, is a grade one cursed spirit that spawned from a secluded, lake-side town near Lake Gosho in Iwate Prefecture.

Kawataro was born sometime around April, 2018, and was born from the fear caused by the many disappearances of locals spanning across several months. Although these disappearances were not at first caused by any spiritual abnormalities, such as other curses (a true reason behind the disappearances was never found), Kawataro became the main cause behind any future disappearances after it was born, being influenced by the fear created.

Much later on, around December of that same year, Special Grade Curse User Kenjaku had exorcised and absorbed Kawataro when it was found lurking around Lake Gosho during the Culling Games. Kawataro did try to fight back, especially due to its unique binding vow (discussed later), but ultimately the Grade One curse was no match for Kenjaku's sheer skill and power. However, when Kenjaku was slain by Special Grade Sorcerer Yuta Okkutsu, Kawataro (along with the rest of Kenjaku's currently stored curses) was freed. This freedom was short lived though, as Kawataro was quickly exorcised by Yuta Okkutsu, along with the rest of the released curses.

Appearance:

Kawataro takes the form similar to that of the kappa of Japanese folklore. Its large (but slender) body is covered in olive, leathery skin. At the ends of each of the curse's large forearms are a pair of grotesque, four-fingered hands that boast fairly sharp nails. Perhaps Kawataro's most notable feature is its head; the curse's face holds two. small eyes and a small (but sharp) beak. The curse's head is covered in dark, matted hair, often looking perpetually wet/soggy. At the center of its cranium, however, is a gleaming dome-like bald spot, appearing as if it is made from some kind of glass or crystalline material.

Abilities:

Kawataro, despite being a fairly strong Grade One curse, boasts no cursed technique. Instead, Kawataro gets its strength from a binding vow it undertook early in its life. In exchange for making its body nigh indestructible, Kawataro gains a random "weak spot" somewhere on its body (which coincidentally ended up being its bald spot). If anything was to directly attack this "weak spot" Kawataro would suffer severe injuries, or even outright die on the spot (even a Grade Three sorcerer could likely exorcise Kawataro by hitting its bald spot a single time with a solid blow).

This unique binding vow is what gave Kawataro a fighting chance against Kenjaku (and later on Yuta Okkutsu). However, both sorcerers/curse users were able to eventually find out Kawataro's weakness rather quickly (Yuta's discovery was more of an accident, as he instinctively used Rika to essentially smash the curse's skull in), resulting in Kawataro being exorcised for good.
