At home education guide follow along

Does anyone have a good resource for at home "educational" activities that are guided by age? I'm interested in a general understanding of education. My frame of reference is the lovevery guide for your baby that have some short tips on each age and what to gently nudge along.

I have a 4 and 2 year old. So, for the 4 year old, I want to provide age appropriate educational activities. I think that's tracing letters, maybe a few numbers, etc. Nothing overly serious, just an easy guide both to help me create age calibrated activities.

There must be some service like lovevery or book or something out there. I want to avoid AI for this if possible.

School district selection for children

Curious if anyone has good book or blog recommendations for choosing a school district for their children. I have 2 toddlers and we are looking at purchasing a home in the area. We have the ability to choose the highest rated schools or slightly below highest rated. We are highly unlikely to choose private.

I haven't been able to find good articles on the topic. Maybe because there's a mountain of literature on the topic -- just not exactly what I'm looking for. I'm looking for practical, succinct data/advice on choosing between elite and very good schools (something this community probably faces).

And there are common refrains on reddit for this. Elite is pressure cooker, but highest rated so high earners gravitate there. Very good can be just as good as elite, especially when you factor in home conditions (more help for kids). Though, the slight increase in variance worry parents their child will be that much more likely not to succeed.

Given we can make the choice to buy into elite, I'm wondering what the data shows.

Mt Diablo (Northgate) before 8am

Do y'all know if anyone rides Mt Diablo before 8am when the gate officially opens? 8am is very late to open a park road. I generally ride 6am-10am.

I maybe get closing the park to cars, but closing it to cyclists seems odd.

What temp is your kids room at night

Help me add other family examples to my family discussion. What temp does is your kids room at night in the summer?

Bonus question: when your traveling in the summer, say at a relatives house, do you ask them to set their house to that temp? 😁

Summer temps

Alright y'all, what is your ideal summer day high temp and low temp?

I just moved to an area in CA that has low to mid 80s highs and I'm kinda down for it. Just warm enough for water play outside but not hot enough to sizzle. I used to be in the 78 and sunny crew, but I might be low 80s now .

Gravel tires for east bay

Alright y'all. As it tradition on reddit, help me find a reason to spend more money on bikes.

What tires do y'all run on east bay gravel roads. I ride shell/lime ridge area (I'm new to the area and gravel biking).

Terrain is a mix of loose gravel and hard summer dirt. I also ride a very healthy portion of pavement to get to the gravel.

I come from road biking, so I like to go fast on pavement. But I also don't want to run the wrong tires. terra speeds look great, but I don't actually know what I'm doing selecting tires.

I have 50mm Goodyear connectors right now and the internet tells me they are slower. Yes I know they are probably perfectly fine.

East bay hammer routes

Alright y'all. Where can I find a hammer route in the east bay that is low car stress semi flat (doesn't need to be flat all the way, just not straight up)

I'm coming from Seattle where the burke and places like mercer were excellent for this. Im trying to discover this in the bay now.

I'm open to road and gravel and routes! Though I'm new to gravel and hammering on gravel seems less zen than road hammering.

Gravel or mountain bike for east bay

Which would y'all choose? Caveats:

- I'm coming from road, so I like the speed of road bikes (and have never ridden mountain)

- I want to ride from my house (no driving) so some pavement is always involved (say 5-10 miles depending on route)

- I have a lauf seigla with a lauf fork in the front. No idea how this compares to mountain bike forks

- I don't desire to ride technical mountain bike terrain, but I will if it gets me to good routes

And, maybe the better question is what bike would you buy / build?

Swing lessons vs self taught

What are y'all's feelings on swing lessons vs self taught for a four year old. We are sending our four year old to a local pool but we aren't getting much out of it. It's a local kid (maybe freshman in high school) that is teaching.

For background, I did swim team all through childhood so I have a good background in swimming. I.e.., I'd have some idea on how to develop swim techniques. Not that four year olds are leaning technique.

Part of it is that we feel like we are wasting money.

Favorite fruit orchards

Where do y'all go to pick fruit with kids? And what is your favorite fruit to pick?

Also, if you go to the walnut creek farmers market -- same question: favorite fruit vendor / favorite fruit?

Temp variations by area

What are the rough temperature variations by area -- mostly asking about hotter days.

E.g. I'm most interested in the Larkey area. E.g. compared to the, say, Walnut Height area.

Or maybe put another way: are there areas that stay cooler. Are there areas that are noticeably hotter? If possible, by how much?

I realize this also might depend on time of day too.

Thanks in advance, I know this is kind of a tough question to answer.

Hi all - I might rent a home near the Buena Vista elementary area. Could y'all share your thoughts on that specific area?

I.e. vibes, safety, kid friendly?, walkable? Etc

Thanks in advance!
