I've always felt that Sid (Akshaye Khanna) is actually the main character of Dil Chahta Hai, even though all three friends are co-leads.

Yes, all three get significant screen time, but I think Sid's arc carries the most emotional weight. His journey is the most layered, mature, and emotionally complex. Akash (Aamir Khan) drives a lot of the plot with his humor and romance, while Sameer (Saif Ali Khan) brings charm, innocence, and some of the film's funniest moments. But Sid's story stays with me the longest...

I also feel the film hits differently depending on your age:

As a teenager, you're more likely to relate to Sameer ,confused, romantic, and just enjoying life.

In your early 20s, Akash feels the most relatable, carefree, commitment-phobic, sarcastic, and figuring things out.

By your late 20s or early 30s, Sid starts making the most sense more introspective, emotionally mature, and quietly carrying the deepest journey.

That's one of the reasons Dil Chahta Hai has aged so well.
