Tips on meeting first year flatmates/coursemates over chat before term starts?

Hey! I've seen some posts about getting in contact with first year classmates and flatmates, most recommending the Unifi app but after downloading and making an account it will nooot let me sign in lol

My friend who also got it has gotten it to work but apparently you have to pay to talk to flatmates??? Insane

Anyway the app is rated 1.7 stars in the play store so.. not really too surprised

Anyway, as I'm starting this September are there any WhatsApp chats or places I can meet people on my course? I'm not on Snapchat or tiktok or other social media really.

Thanks!!

Absolutely STUNNING noctilucent clouds out over the UK right now!!!! (ft. My cat)

If anyone is in southern/midlands UK (might be visible further north but not sure) GO AND HAVE A LOOK!!! Light pollution makes little difference so even if you're in a city find your best view of the North-West horizon!!!!!!

What's the deal with posters/wall decor in student accomm?

Hey hey!! Finally got my first year student accommodation sorted, and I'm excited to decorate it when I arrive!!!!

From what I've seen apparently posters and wall decor arent technically allowed, but many do it regardless - any thoughts on this? If I decide to put up anything, does anyone have tips for avoiding issues?

Cheers!!

Sticker editor glitching?

Hey all! I keep having this issue on my Google Pixel Android phone where each time I try to edit a sticker and add other stickers, text, etc. in the built in editor, the original sticker looks sized up huge but all the edits I make are normal size. But then, if I size up the edits to match the original sticker and send it, the original sticker is back at normal size and the edits look huge/out of place.

What's going on how do I fix this glitch? I've restarted my phone, cleared cache, etc. but I'm cautious to uninstall and reinstall since WhatsApp is notoriously bad at backing up stuff at least for me.

Just got an accommodation offer - is Marketgate any good for first year accommodation?

Hey all, all going well I'll be starting my first year at UWE this September, and I've just received an accommodation offer.

I went to visit the Phoenix Court and Marketgate accommodations on an open day a few months ago, and really liked the look of Phoenix Court but despite it being priority I was assigned Marketgate, which I also liked alright but got a better vibe from Phoenix Court.

The placement of the accommodation is really convenient, with the bus straight to my campus (Bower Ashton) basically right outside and also being right in the city centre.

However after a quick Google search seeing some horrifying reviews, am I doomed? I think I'll be fine with noise, but everything else about filthy rooms and broken facilities worries me. Would love some thoughts and first hand experiences from anyone who has them! :[

EDIT: Also wondering if it might be worth appealing and getting swapped over to Phoenix Court simply because I liked the feel better? I dunno, seemed like it also had poor reviews.

Could it be?? Kelvin is that you?

Midlands, England - could these be Kelvin Helmholtz partially formed??? No where near an expert so I could be way off, but it'd be so cool if they are!

The Sri Lanka Blue Magpie (Urocissa Ornata), entirely endemic to Sri Lanka and member of the family Corvidae

From Wikipedia:

The Sri Lanka blue magpie or Ceylon magpie (Urocissa ornata) is a brightly coloured member of the family Corvidae, found exclusively in Sri Lanka. This species is adapted to hunting in the dense canopy, where it is highly active and nimble. Its flight is rather weak, though, and is rarely used to cover great distances. In spite of its ability to adapt to the presence of humans, it is classified as vulnerable to extinction due to the fragmentation and destruction of its habitat of dense primary forest in the wet zone of southern Sri Lanka.
