little panoptic yarn-based homunculus i made to guard the tower

A lovely little chap of a cervine build and concentric face whom I have named "Ringley." He is sleepless, relentless, and a wonderful listener. My only real qualms with him are his tendencies to set my papers alight with his smiting (laser) vision and to attract predatory yarn-eating moths.

a strange little deer named Ringley

"From glittering sand I sculpt his flanks,

From patinaed copper I forge his hooves.

The Eye All-Seeing I set in his face,

An angel most holy I set in his flesh."

Free-handed crochet figurine/house guardian I made! His name is Ringley. 🥰

Biblically Accurate Crochet Deer

"From glittering sand I sculpt his flanks,

From patinaed copper I forge his hooves.

The Eye All-Seeing I set in his face,

An angel most holy I set in his flesh."

This is a free-handed crochet figurine depicting a deer-bodied/ring-headed fantastical creature (named "Ringley", lol). For this project, I was largely inspired by the angel artwork of Peter Mohrbacher and the "biblically accurate" aesthetic that has become prevalent in art in recent years. I constructed the supporting underbody (see gallery) from a hardwood turning blank, plywood/MDP rings, corner brackets, a long threaded rod, and assorted fasteners.

someone to whom you could pour your heart out

Vaelith the Grief-Bearer

At the edge of the town, where the hedges fade into the wild heather, stands the House of Azul. Its guardian stands there at the altar, sifting through the pile of odds-and-ends, the offerings of her supplicants. Here a little button from a child's coat from a mother, there a cracked bell patinaed with age from a child, a tarnished wedding band from a widow, a lockpick from a thief, an old belt buckle from a soldier.

Her robes are dyed the blue of deepest night, silver rippling at the hems. Little gem are studded across her keen ears, and more still flash at her throat and her belly. Her clawed hands seem large enough to reach up and pluck the moon itself. The pale horns of her mask arch against the night sky, her shining spider Aster weaving a dew-strewn web between them.

"Speak," those nacreous, enigmatic eyes seem to say, "and unburden your heart to me. Whatever it is that you can no longer carry, I shall now bear it for you."

an unblinking, finely-dressed lady approaches you

My little grief-bearer, Vaelith! I was going for a monster lady with an enigmatic mask face, and I think she turned out nicely. 😁
