Do SSRI’s limit how successful one’s career can be?

I've been on Lexapro 10mg for anxiety for about three years. I graduated college in 2024 and am starting a role at a PE fund in Europe this August.

I'm considering whether to come off Lexapro. It has had both pros and cons for me, and I'm trying to think seriously about whether it still makes sense long-term.

One concern I keep coming back to is whether being on an SSRI could affect my ambition, drive, risk tolerance, or career trajectory. To be very direct: I want to become extremely successful financially, and I worry that Lexapro could make me less likely to reach that level of success.

I'm not saying that's true - I'm trying to understand whether this fear is rational or not. As SSRI’s are slightly controversial, I can’t find many successful entrepreneurs or financiers who admit to taking them.

I'd be curious to hear from others who have navigated their careers while on SSRIs, especially those who may 10+ years into their careers:

  1. Have you found that being on an SSRI affected your career performance, motivation, or long-term success in any meaningful way?

  2. Am I wrong to think that being on medication like this could limit how successful I can be?

Would appreciate any honest perspectives, especially from people who have navigated demanding careers while on or after coming off SSRIs.

Financial Success and Lexapro

I've been on Lexapro 10mg for anxiety for about three years. I graduated college in 2024 and am starting a new job in Europe in August.

I'm considering whether to eventually come off Lexapro. It has had both pros and cons for me, and I'm trying to think seriously about whether it still makes sense long-term.
Of course, l'd only make any changes with medical guidance. The main issue is I’ve had some serious weight gain and am concerned that I’m not as motivated as I was before taking the medication.

One concern I keep coming back to is whether Lexapro could negatively affect my ambition, drive, risk tolerance, or career trajectory. To be very direct: I want to become extremely successful financially, and I worry that Lexapro could make me less likely to reach that level of success because it numbs the parts of me that could help me get there.

I'm not saying that's true - I'm trying to understand whether this fear is rational or not.

Career Advice: EU PE Fund

I am on lexapro 10mg for anxiety, and have been on it for 3 years. Graduated college in 2024 and worked in F&B operations for some prestigious orgs. I recently got the opportunity to join a PE fund in the EU.

I'm considering going off of the lexapro. It has had its pros and cons, but I'm not sure how helpful it will be for me to stay on it long-term.

Would love to hear from others who have navigated their careers while taking an SSRI, especially those with 10+ years experience:

  1. has being on an SSRI impacted your performance, motivation, or long-term success?

  2. Am I wrong to think that taking lexapro could limit how successful I can be?

Would appreciate any thoughts here, especially from people who have sustained demanding careers while on or after coming off of SSRIs.
