MacBook Air M3 not displaying picture on Samsung Q70A through HDMI
I’m having a really frustrating issue trying to connect my MacBook Air M3 to a Samsung Q70A TV using a high-quality USB‑C to HDMI 2.1 cable. When I connect the Mac directly to the TV, it often doesn’t detect the TV at all. It doesn’t show up in display settings and only AirPlay is available. Very rarely the connection works perfectly (4K 60Hz, stable, no issues), but most of the time it doesn’t detect anything.
I also tried routing the connection through my Sony STR-DH590 AV receiver (Mac → receiver → TV). With that setup the Mac always detects the TV and it appears in display settings, and audio works normally (e.g. YouTube sound plays through speakers), but there is no picture on the TV. I managed to get the image working once by toggling Samsung’s Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) off and on, after which everything worked perfectly in 4K 60Hz. However, as soon as I unplugged the cable and tried again later, I couldn’t get the picture back anymore, even with the same steps.
I’ve tried different HDMI ports, unplugging power from all devices, reconnecting cables, doing full resets, toggling Anynet+, switching inputs, using a USB‑C hub / HDMI adapter instead of the direct cable, etc., but nothing fixes it consistently. The weird part is that if I plug in my work laptop (Windows) using the exact same setup, everything works instantly every time without any issues. I also don’t have any problems with other monitors when using this Mac.
So the connection can work perfectly, but getting the picture to actually show up reliably is the problem. It really seems like some kind of compatibility issue between Apple (M3) and Samsung. Has anyone experienced something similar and found a proper fix?voitko suomentaa tämän samalla
