Fast paced thriller/horror about a chase or hunt?
Hi! I love thrillers about a chase or hunt and I am looking for more after I ragequit Run on Red by Noelle Ihli when the main character >!willingly jumped into the kidnappers' car.!< Here's some examples of what I'm looking for or not looking for:
Perfect examples:
The Island by Adrian McKinty
- badass woman lead
- happened almost entirely in "real time"
- takes place on an isolated island in multiple locations, not just in one house
- characters making smart decisions, or at least dumb decisions that make sense for their personality and motivation
- tense and fast paced
You Can Trust Me by Wendy Heard
- TWO badass women leads
- everything else I loved about The Island
I loved it, but not quite what I'm looking for:
The Last Word by Taylor Adams
This book has all of the above, except for the fact that it takes place just in one home. I'd like a bit of a larger setting to change it up a bit.
Every Vow You Break by Peter Swanson
- it's been over a year since I read this one so I can't put my finger on why, but not quite what I am looking for
Fits the vibe, but the book itself was meh:
- Survive the Night by Riley Sager (female lead, real time, larger setting)
- Run on Red by Noelle Ihli (see above)
- Hairpin Bridge by Taylor Adams (too much timeline switching and it felt way too drawn out)
My favorite thriller authors are Alex Finlay, Sally Hepworth, Jennifer Hillier, and Wendy Heard. Bonus points for queer characters! Horror is okay too, but I am not into paranormal or ghosts; psychological horror is more up my alley.
Thank you in advance for the recommendations!
