Flooring associates

Do any of y'all think about the amount of silica dust particles we breathe in, and also about the complete lack of concern by our employer about it?

This is especially true of those of us that sweep the grout and mortar aisle on a regular basis, and for the full-timers that have been here a while. It's ever-present in the air in and around flooring.

A little research will tell you about the dangers of it (silicosis) and the damage to our lungs that can occur.

Job placement agency in the area

How common is it for these agencies in this triangle area to misinform you of job availability?

The day I applied for a job they've posted on their website I received a call from their office: "Hi, this is so-and-so from Acme (not the actual name) Job placement Agency and I've got the perfect job for you!". A couple of days later and it's something completely unrelated to the job I applied for.

So I take it, work one shift. Then, nothing until another call about how happy they were with my performance. "Yeah, but what about the job(s) I applied for in my field?", I ask. "Oh, we're still waiting to hear back from that client". Then, days of silence turn into weeks, which stretches into a month.

It gets better; direct deposit I correctly completed over a week prior to pay day didn't get processed/completed/whatever by them. " When can you come by and get the check?" which they harped over and over about.

I accept another position for them and work it. It doesn't work out for me and so I explain to them why it's not a good fit for me (all very valid reasons). "Well, unfortunately that's part of the job..." they reply.

Again with a paper paycheck, instead of direct deposit, and the silence from them. Done with these yokels; the deception/lies, the flighty communications, and the difficulties with pay.

In the meantime, their head office sent me an email asking for a review! Cannot wait...

Flooring grand reopening

How's everyone else's going? I mean, rearrange the aisles and move the stuff, fill the shelves with the same stuff, but offer shoppers no amazing deals? Let's put lipstick on a pig, shall we.

We put out some popcorn and scrubbed the detail cost, but that's the best they could come up with to lure customers in.

We should've sprung for some salsa or rumba dancers, built a small dance floor out of our product, and placed it out front in the seasonal area to draw them all the way back to the department.

ARROWS TOWARD STREET

Every single one facing the curb. Further up the street, more of the same.

Some people just follow the crowd like a heard of Wildebeest off the cliff.

Bull

How common are these around town? I mean it’s not like New Bern has out in the open with their bear all around town.

This one’s tucked away in a building I recently visited. Another that I know of is at the Museum of Life & Science.

Gov't assistance

Just curious how common it is out there for associates to rely upon gov't assistance such as SNAP and Medicaid since Lowe's hourly pay is so depressingly low.

LinkedIn Job alerts - Triangle

Anyone care to comment on Piper Companies? I get multiple emails daily from LinkedIn, Piper is by far the most common job alerts that I see, all-the-time.

They're not one that replies to applicants with either, we've received your application for job xyz, nor do they follow up with, we've decided to go with another applicant.

Google Fiber's coming

They're actively installing Google fiber lines in the west side of town. My front yard and road is all flagged and painted up.

I'm sincerely hoping that this isn't a repeat fiasco of Frontier lines being buried where they apparently started work before gas was marked, and where they hit my neighbor's city water supply line.

I also recall seeing those contractors hooking their large tank on trailer up to the fire hydrants to fill with "free" water.

Job requirements/expectations

It seems like a hard NO to me, but what say you.

Went to an interview for maint. tech for two small-ish properties

  1. the only maint tech (always on call)
  2. no company vehicle , would have to use my own (gas reimbursement not worth it IMHO)
  3. no healthcare offered
  4. less than $24/hr
  5. no possibility of living on site
  6. no pools/decorative or retention ponds to deal with
  7. one is senior living

Edit: forgot to add the fact that they didn't put any of this, accept for it being two properties, in the job description. # 6 was a positive. Had I known all of that I wouldn't have spent my gas and over two hours of my time going, interviewing, driving home.
