Big Pustule

Since the stats of the ranger sacrificed to get Pustule don't matter, I didn't think the size of the ranger mattered either. Just for fun, I made the poor bastard I created for the sacrifice as big as possible. Turns out size does transfer. My Pustule is huge and I love it so I thought I'd share (I never thought I'd write that one day).

Wasteland 3: taking pork buns further

As posted here ages ago, there's a direct reference to Sleeping Dogs in the game Wasteland 3, which is such a nice little surprise for any Sleeping Dogs fan. Here's my SS of it:

Two pork buns and a Flaming Pig please

But it doesn't stop there. Much later in the game, if you return to that zone, here's the message you get when leaving it again:

Pork buns are love!

Now I just have to play Sleeping Dogs again!

Need help with a known bug: arresting Vic erased Steeltown from my journal

EDIT: big mistake in the title. I didn't realize it but my journal got broken before going to Aspen to get Vic. After checking each of my saves, it turns out that it's when I went to Santa's Workshop that any Steeltown-related mission got erased in my journal (I do still have all the equipment and stuff since I was there.) I didn't notice it at the time and kept going. So, I did Aspen, rescued the hostages, arrested Vic, went back to HQ where I got attacked by the Scar Collectors, Poultron assembled for that battle and joined the group, then I reported the arrest to the Patriarch and that's only when I realized that Steeltown missions has disappeared since I got a radio message from the Patriarch as soon as I left asking me to go to Steeltown and fix the situation...
It doesn't really change the problem though. I can't get the game to acknowledge that I'm done with Steeltown because my run is entirely broken now.

I tried all the fixes I could find so far.

  1. I simply closed the game entirely, launched it again and made sure the Steeltown Icon appeared on the main menu. It did. It is one of the two little icons that show up in the lower right side of the menu, right? Anyway, the icon was there, I loaded my game (I never click Continue anymore). No Steeltown.
  2. I tried closing the game then going offline in Steam to force a re-synch between the game and the DLCs. Launched the game in offline mode. No DLC icons. While on the main menu, I alt-tabbed out to Steam to go online again. The icons were back when I returned to the game. Loaded my save. Still no Steeltown.
  3. I verified the integrity of the files on steam. All good. No Steeltown.
  4. I learned that there is a known issue with arresting Vic that had huge consequences on the world map. I hadn't realized that my journal got screwed at Santa's Workshop so I opted for the Beta version released by inXile to "fix" the issue and followed the instructions. It was pointless since arresting Vic isn't what caused the problem.

Apparently, I could try the "World Map" jump start, where you run the normal version of the game, go to Steeltown, walk around hoping it updates the quest, save the game then reload your save at the Palace. "Occasionally, this forces Steam to remember your DLC licenses and pops the quest back into your current log" according to effing google's AI. I just tried that with the beta version. I was amazed to see I could interact with Crowe on the admin level, who sent me to the Spire again. For a second, there was hope. But when I got to the spire, the synths were already freed, there was no automated defenses to deal with and the quest is locked.

One last fix I could try is using the normal version of the game, reloading a save right before arresting Vic, make a fresh save, close and launch the game again, then load this particular save and of course avoid clicking "Continue". Seeing as Steeltown and anything related has disappeared from my journal, I don't see that happening. Besides, it is exactly what I had done to start with since I never use the "Continue" option on the main menu.

I'm afraid I broke my run. I've seen posts about the Vic issue but no solution I haven't tried or that concerns me.

So, is there any way at all I can get my game back on track or am I screwed once more? it's literally the 8th time I restart that game from scratch because of crap like that. I absolutely love that game but these bugs are just egregious. Any ideas or am I definitely screwed?

Note: this might not matter at all but since the very beginning, I've been unable to delete saves. When I click on delete via the game interface, it always freezes and forces me to alt+F4 it.

Very sorry for the length of the post. Any help would be really appreciated.

Reference spotted

No idea if this had been posted before but I'm currently playing the game Wasteland 3, which is full of references to movies and pop culture in general. I was trucking on with my little ranger life in Colorado and went for a pit-stop at HQ where I just got attacked by several gangs at once. Imagine my (paradoxical) delight when rushing outside to defend the place, I got greeted like this:

The only thing missing was the sound of the bottles

It's crazy how it always just makes my day when I spot a tiny reference to the film.

Question about the Clone and The Povost (W3)

I just posted on an entirely different subject so I guess I feel emboldened to ask: is there a way to order the clone and the Provost to go back to HQ?
The Steeltown NPC that accompanies you through the factory asks you to send your pets away before entering factory level, which I did. But what about the clone and the Provost?
I think I'm nearly done with the factory (this is my first play through) so obviously I went in with them following me since I didn't know any better. During one fight, they killed a woman. The robot that tags along to direct you said after the fight something along the lines of "good, most workers will be able to go back to work". So, I take it I'm in the clear. And I don't expect my clone and the Provost to go on a killing spree and annihilate all the strikers on their path but I'm wondering how many kills you're "allowed" before it fails the mission or penalizes you in some way. Besides, I never meant to kill that poor woman so, regardless of the game play, I'd really like to avoid killing more innocent workers fighting for their rights. And beyond that, I'd just like to know if I can and how to do it if it's possible.

Being totally new to the game and having zero clue whatsoever as to what you're supposed to do with the Provost, I couldn't help but look it up. I'm actually amazed he made it as far as Steeltown (he died very early on and I just reloaded a save to get him back, since that he's like James Bond). But knowing that I'm in Steeltown at the moment, how far am I from discovering the place you're supposed to take him to (The Snowed-Inn Resort)?

Steeltown Saves Gone

Help me please. I left Wasteland 3 close to finishing the main quest there (the strike thing) and I just booted the game, all my saves beyond the Reagan stuff are gone. Also, my characters can't do anything. I can't shoot, I can't interact with anyone or anything.
I tried launching the game again and this time Factory Fracas appeared, but only this one, and it was stuck at the stage "Get non-lethal weapons" which I of course already have. Still couldn't interact with anything.
I had already cleared the scrapyard, including the Ghost Army's secret lair, and basically finished all the quests I could get there (Next, the crate with a warbot, the crate of food, etc.).

Anyway, that's not the point, there's obviously a bigger problem.

Am I screwed? Do I have to restart the game? And does this happen a lot? Because even if I start another run, isn't this going to happen again?

I looked the problem up and checked OneDrive, all the saves are good. I checked my local folder, the saves are in there. The game obviously won't load them and in any case it won't let me interact or do anything. Steam doesn't say there's any conflict on their cloud.

It feels like I'm screwed, doesn't it?

Edit: Just realized I wasn't being clear. I can load any of my saves just fine. It's once I'm in the game that everything I've done is gone (including my current objective). And I can't do anything.

When Google tells you a way to avoid Google AI is to use DuckDuckGo or Brave Search

It does feel like a personal response

Context: I was searching something related to a video game. The summarized response generated by Google's AI -- literally by copying and pasting texts from the original websites offering the answers -- popped right up, as it does now. I dislike the fact that it basically bypasses the sites and that you don't visit them anymore since most sites live off the traffic and the ads revenue it generates (which isn't ideal either). I also find it straightforward wrong. It's stealing content, as simple as that. I can't see how it can be good for the intarwebs' ecosystem if one site steals all the info from the others and spoon-feeds it to you mixing approximate, straight-up wrong info mixed with accurate data because it does not even understand the object of the question. The bypassing problem is the same as what happened with news ages ago and if memory serves they ended up striking a deal with the news outlets. I actually just checked after writing this, they regularly do: https://www.euractiv.com/news/google-and-afp-reach-deal-on-remuneration-of-journalistic-content/ ). But they still seriously hurt journalism when they started displaying said news directly on their page, again bypassing the websites and thus cutting them off their readers and revenue streams. Not to mention the authors. But what deal would they strike and with with who when they now steal all the content?
Anyway, there was the little box under the response that said "Ask me anything". Out of boredom I typed that I hated the AI or something like that. It apparently "thought" I was talking about the game's AI and told me to do this and this with tracer bullets (?!) to correct the problem (it makes zero sense). Mildly irritated by this AI bull that's now making every conversation dull on this planet, sucking all the power of the world with catastrophic effects and announcing an era where RAM will be rarer than gold and gaming a luxury for the 1 %, I specified as you can see at the top that I was talking about Google's AI. I found the response so candidly amusing I thought I'd share. Sorry if this is not the sub for that kind of things, I sometimes see posts in my feed from here and thought it'd be fine.

Install "Bye bye Google Ai", it's recommended by Google!

PS: Real question though, when the AI writes that "A lot of people feel that way at the moment [...]", I feel that the key phrase is "at the moment". What do you think their expectations are for the future? Us getting used to it because it's plastered in our face all the time, them making improvements to the quality of these AI-generated responses, a mix of the two? They're obviously aware that it is largely being rejected by the public. Yet it doesn't feel like that's going to stop them. And in any case, what about the websites that people will no longer visit because they got a digest of what they wanted to know? What about the ownership on that material?

Apologies again for the long post.

What does this do/mean?

I know there are mercs that complement each other and have unique dialogues, like Wolf and Fox in my case. But I got something a little different. Flay landed a great hit, which Pierre commented by saying the usual "I see someone has been taking notes on my technique" (or something along those lines). Then I got an AIMBot message saying "Pierre likes Flay". It's the first time I see that -- it's possible that I never noticed it before though -- and I have no idea what that means. I'm assuming it gives some sort of bonus having them together, but how exactly?
I mean, does it do anything that Pierre likes Flay to start with and if yes, do they get a bonus if they're next to each other or something like that? That wouldn't be compatible with Flay's loner trait so I'm guessing that's not it either. Anyone care to explain?

What did they do to my boy? (Larry)

Right, so, I'm in the middle of doing U-Bahn and since I was in the area, I got Larry to rehab. And I hate new Larry! First of all, where's Ted? Did he just throw Ted out? Then there's his looks. I already get annoyed by Wolf, having another toothpaste ad idiot is just too much. But that's not the most important. I noticed a clear change in his stats for sure. I am certain that I had his health above 70 and quite sure it was close to 80 if not already at 80. He goes to rehab and comes out with 66 HP? What the hell? I'm not really sure any of his stats got increased. Explosive was and is at 92. First aid or whatever you call it in JA stands at 70 and I think that was his stat before already. So basically, now he looks like a douche and I lost all the progress? Is that possible? I mean, the douche thing is a fact but I'm wondering if my memory is failing me concerning his stats. Can rehab really nerf Larry or am I just traumatized by his douchery and the loss of Ted? In other words, is it always a good idea to get Larry clean? I very much preferred the stoner.

Can I drop this item or not? (question+bonus ranting)

Sorry for not directly mentioning the item in the title, I just don't want to spoil anything for a new player like me going in completely blind.

>!The item is the medical journal about Wilcox and the new strain of Red Rabbies. I've been carrying that damn thing for ever since I got it way way before I started the Outbreak quest. I'm nearing the end game now, I've done almost all the side quests including the Outbreak. It gave me a clue but I thought I'd have to show it or would be able to show it to Dr Kronenberg when I finally met her. It never popped in the conversation choices (or maybe it did and I don't remember). Now she's dead, the outbreak has been averted and I still have the medical journal. So, can I just drop it? Will it serve any purpose later in one of the main quests or in any quest for that matter?!<

>!Speaking of the Outbreak quest, mein Gott this game never ceases to pleasantly surprise or straightforward amaze. I was never expecting zombies in it (even though, given the setting, it's perfect) and I adore zombies since my childhood. But not only that, I never expected some Mad Max to be in there as well. So many references, so many ideas (such as spreading a pornographic communist pamphlet), so much ferocious satire about post-colonialism and so much fun at the same time in one game, I'm baffled. I really can't believe I had never heard of this gem. The only thing is the difficulty, I'm playing normal difficulty since it's my first playthrough and it is far too easy. But in a way I'm actually glad about it. For a first experience, it's quite fun to just plow through the enemy with my super soldiers and I did struggle a bit to get them there. Speaking of which... I knew in advance I'd get attached to the mercs (or dislike them depending on their personality) but this game takes that aspect to another level. I simply love Blood ("Time to put my nose in the dirt! Maybe I'll find a truffle." hahaha), I just can't stand Omryn anymore, and it's impossible not to love Larry and Ted. !<

JA3 rules! I can't wait to discover JA2 now but that'll have to be after a high difficulty playthrough of JA3 first.

Previously in Jagged Alliance...

Heya everyone, first post here because... I only discovered the game not so long ago. Someone recommended Jagged Alliance 3, it was exactly what I was looking for (and some more) and it was on sale for 8 bucks. Dove right in. Haven't stopped playing since and I absolutely love the game. The gameplay of course, but also the humor, the satire, the setting. Long live the Coffee Beans and the Junkyard Knights!
So, I started looking up this sub and realized that similarly to the Fallout community, there's a lot of nostalgia or pure preference for the earlier games. Correct me if I'm wrong, but JA2 is the one everyone loves the most, right?
Then I learned that there's many different versions of it and I don't understand exactly what's going on there. Why is JA3 considered less good? Why so many versions of JA2? Which one(s) should I get? Is JA1 worth it at all or has it badly aged? I also read about one game in the series that wasn't turn based, what's up with that? Anyway, it's all really confusing for a newcomer (who's late to the party).
Would someone be kind enough to bring me up to page on all this? I can pay in tiny diamonds.

Weird little indie flick (that wasn't even good)

Since last night I'm obsessed about finding the title of a movie I saw ages ago. We're talking maybe late 90's, early 2000 and most likely the latter.
I think the whole movie only had two characters. They were buddies. One was in his underwear, playing a video game, while the other kept feeding him what I think was milk and pressuring his friend to keep playing. The guy playing the video game was supposed to beat it. It was an old classic and I'm pretty sure it was Pac-Man but searching anything with that key word is really messy. It's like all roads lead to Pixels or Gamers.
I don't remember much about what happened. I don't think a lot did. I remember that the movie tried something but failed miserably. It had a certain atmosphere though. As much as I can remember, it was essentially a long dialogue with peer pressure coming from the one guy feeding the other and the other constantly on the verge of cracking up. I vaguely remember that this guy actually complained about his supplies being only milk (or whatever it was).
It was a very obscure indie flick but I'm pretty sure there was a good comedian in it. I keep thinking about Middleditch but it's not him. Help me please, for some reason it's driving me nuts!
