People with Elderly Parents in Assisted Living in the Chicagoland Area, what is their experience and how expensive is it, really?

My parents are getting to that age and mind where they have to consider assisted living or possible memory care. If you have parents or know of someone in this situation, can you share your experience? We are especially concerned about cost. One place requires a $500K deposit, and $6K a month,

Phil Dunster breaking

I am rewatching Season 3, Episode 2, when Trent Crim was introduced to the team, and Roy told everyone to ignore him. While Roy is yelling at the team, you can see Jamie/Phil trying not to laugh.

Is it weird to rescue usable items from the garbage and use them in your home?

Growing up "trash picking," as we like to call it in da 'hood, was a common thing. When neighbors would throw away perfectly good stuff (bookcases, tables, toys, household items), it was a given that it would be picked through, and people would either sell it or bring it into their homes to use. Recycling and repurposing before it became vogue. This was something I practiced throughout childhood and college, when I lived in an apartment building (where people left usable stuff in the trash room all the time), and I still practice today.

My husband, who grew up upper-middle-class abroad, thinks that taking perfectly good, usable items from the garbage and using them is a weird and uncommon practice. I say that it is common and not weird at all.

Reddit Nation, is it weird and uncommon, or normal behavior? We have a bet on who is right.

Commander McKenzie Theory

There have been discussions about Commander McKenzie, some saying that he is TT's version of Commander Lawrence. After the finale, I would not be surprised if he is not a Lawrence but a Snape.

Two instances made me think this. First was how protective he was of Agnes, how he pulled strings so she would not get in trouble for the broken engagement. Also, how Paula told Agnes that the powers that be wanted to kill Agnes/Hannah and cut her up to send to June as revenge, but Commander McKenzie fought for her. The other was the idea of mothers sacrificing for thier kids. Perhaps Tabitha paid the price for keeping Agnes/Hannah alive? This might be a stretch, but who knows?

I am even more convinced that McKenzie or Aunt Lydia is Garth's handler.

SPOLIERS: Plot twists and theories based on the book

I have two theories. The first one was triggered by a split-second scene of Paula sitting on the bathroom floor screaming, "What did you do!?!?!?!??" The second is about Becka.

>!Theory 1:!<

>!In the book, Commander McKenzie and Paula were having an affair and killed their respective spouses so they could be together. McKenzie did it by slowly poisoning Tabitha, and Paula framed their Handmaid for her husband's murder. !<

>!The augmented storyline: Paula is still plotting, this time with Commander Weston, with whom I think she is having an affair. She loves her lifestyle (riding horses, living in an estate), and she got it through her marriage to McKenzie. She gained the McKenzies' "good graces" by befriending Tabitha, whom Paula slowly poisoned. Once Tabatha was out of the way, she swooped in and became Ms. McKenzie 2.0.!<

>! Assuming that money is inherited by the males in the family, Paula kills off McKenzie after Weston and Agnes' wedding and frames Rosa for his murder. Weston, being the "son-in-law," would take over the estate. Then Agnes will become "ill" and die, leaving Weston and Paula to be together (Or it could go the other way. The McKenzies want to get rid of Agnes and Weston, so they kill him off after they are married, assume Weston's estate, then kill off Agnes. I like the first theory better.)!<

>!HOWEVER, Agnes learns of Paula's plot, including killing Tabatha, and her inner June comes out, killing Paula. Daisy, Rosa, and the other Marthas help cover up the murder. !<

>!Theory 2.!<

>!This was triggered by the scene where Becka is running away in the night. !<

>!In the book, Becka is also being SA'ed by her father. Perhaps he is in the show also, but she doesn't realize it because he sedates her. He has access to those drugs, and seeing the news of late, it is not out of the realm of possibility. !<

"This Madeline is Perfect", "Paula will Probably Give Her to You as a Wedding Present", and other absurd and disturbing Shunamite quips.

Has anyone else noticed Shunamite's off-hand remarks?

Hulda: Do you think they will cancel class?

Shunamitte: Probably not, unless they have to hang someone, and that might take all day.

I know it's supposed to show how culturally integrated the Plums are. Her matter-of-factness reminds me of the pictures of people in the American Jim Crow South, having picnics among lynching victims.

<<Shudder>>

I think the honey jars the Pearl Girls are distributing in Canada serve as a vehicle for sending secret messages. That's why they would visit Daisy's parents' shop and possibly how Gilead found out they were part of Mayday.

I am not necessarily saying that the Pearl Girls are spies. Perhaps some of them are, while others are just unwitting message mules.
