What’s a sign someone grew up poor without saying they grew up poor?

Not talking about stereotypes or jokes.
I mean habits, behaviors or little things people do that instantly make you think:
“Yeah… they probably didn’t grow up with much.”
For me it’s things like:
never wasting food
keeping boxes, bags and cables “just in case”
feeling guilty spending money on themselves checking prices automatically even when they can afford it now
Curious what others noticed from themselves or people around them.

Should I get braces before law school?

People I'm SO sorry if this isn't the right sub for it, but I'm leaving for law school in a few months and I need to know if getting braces right before it is a good idea or not?

I've had issues with my teeth for a while but it didn't affect my speech at all so I just didn't care, and it didn't look all that bad too but like recently I've been having a lot of TMJ ache and oh god let me tell you, IT'S TERRIBLE.

I cannot function for hours when I get it, it's like my head is bursting inside of it while my jaw barely opens and when it does it CLICKS.

it's bad okay?

So should I do it?

Does anyone else think that the Tapatio man looks a little like Elijah Wood?

I know this may sound absurd but this thought has crossed my mind and now all I can see is a long straight haired Elijah Wood with a mustache.

Has your candle ever relit itself?

Two nights ago (48 hours ago almost exactly) I lit candles in my house. I always do when I cook and clean. I light a candle in every room. While I was cooking a friend called me over so maybe two hours later I blew out all the candles. One of the candles I didn’t blow out bc it ALWAYS goes out by itself. It never stays lit more than 2 hours and idky just never does. I remember looking at it and it was going out. By the time I got back home it was all the way out. Okay so 48 hours later I just saw that my candle was fully lit. How is this possible? This is a candle that has NEVER stayed lit for more than 2 hours (had this candle for almost a year) and has been out for 48 hours. A little freaked out lol And yes it is kinda warm in the room it’s in. Is this science or more than science? I’m so confused.

Is it possible that what feels like “relaxing” to one person feels like “panicking” to another?

Since we can’t directly feel what other people are feeling, how do we know that internal experiences are actually comparable?

For example, is it possible that what your body experiences as “calm” or “relaxed” could feel exactly like what my body experiences as “panic,” but because we’ve each learned different labels for our own internal states, you call it calm and I call it anxiety?

I know we can compare outward signs like heart rate, breathing, muscle tension, behaviour, etc. But I’m asking about the actual subjective feeling itself. Could two people’s internal experiences be completely different while using the same words for them?

What is your most peculiar hangover remedy meal?

You’ve been out the night before, nailed 20 beers, woke up in the morning (just about). What backwards dish is going to pull you back around into fighting shape?

I’m on the hunt for the odd ball taste cadets out there. Do your worst.

Do you think members of the SS should be held accountable if they are so close to death?

The US extradited a 89 year old man (2009) and a 95 year old man (2021) to Germany because they were accused of being concentration camp guards. These men were so old that they were barely able to walk. What harm could they do if they were to spend their final years in the US?
