Is a spring roll a sandwich?
How about a burrito or an egg roll? Basically, any food where the bread wraps all the way around the filling. Is it still a sandwich?

I'm not talking about sneakily keeping it a secret so you don't have to share in the divorce you'd initiate.
I'm talking about continuing to live frugally or basically "paycheck to paycheck" without letting your significant other be part of that decision.
As a bonus second question, what made you come to that conclusion?
I had to take a job hours away from my condo. I hired a property manager to handle the unit since I'm too far away to practically handle emergencies. I was lucky to find someone who is managing a few other units in my building.
The problem is, several new developments have opened since I bought my unit, and my unit hasn't had any potential tenants showing interest.
The property manager said she had to decrease the rent of another unit by $100 less than what the previous tenants paid to get it occupied. I told her she could reduce my rent by $100, too. But now, because the interest rate is so high and my insurance rates went up, the rent we're asking for is $150 less than my PITI payment and over $700 below the entire cost, including my HOA dues and special assessment.
I have owned a rental property before (though this condo is my only property at this point). I understand that having tenants costs money because of damage, and I've been through an eviction and understand what a lengthy and costly process it is to get a nonpaying tenant out.
How low can I drop the rent before it becomes more cost effective to leave the unit vacant? Right now, the cost of the unit is $1397/month not including HOA and special assessment.
Note: the unit is in a secured building with several pied-a-terre units in it, so it's a low risk for attracting squatters if it does stay empty.
The government says you must leave your country for good in the next 60 days. To give you the resources to leave (plane or train fare, etc.) They are giving you $10,000 (or the equivalent in your currency. )

Where are you going?
My family member is getting married in a few weeks. The invitations have gone out, but I didn't receive one.
I didn't expect one, if I'm being honest. The mother went out of her way to keep me away from her kids. I didn't meet them until they were well into elementary school. Even then, any time we saw each other for gatherings, the children were directed away from me and then debriefed at the end of the day. If I asked one a question the mother or father answered for them.
So the "kids" don't know me. The trend of strategic separation has continued until now. The kids have graduated university.
I should note that the mother and I have religious and political differences and I am a single mother by choice. The exclusion from their lives isn't because I'm some sort of predator, drug addict, or criminal. I have security clearance. I didn't keep my children away from her, and she did overstep by trying to convert my children when left unsupervised, so she must have assumed I would also engage in that type of behavior. I wouldn't. It's against my religion. And I don't discuss politics with her. Never have.
Since I wasn't really part of their lives, I wasn't really surprised or hurt by the exclusion.
But the question I have is, would it be inappropriate to spend much less (or nothing at all) on a gift for someone whose only relationship with me can be defined by DNA?
I personally prefer cameras throughout the house, especially if my charges are pre-verbal, nonverbal, or if there's a custody dispute or high turnover (certainly, a high turnover or custody battle would be a red flag that would make me decline the position, though. )
But I want to know how *you* feel about surveillance in your workplace.
I'm a little broke right now. So I think I'll send her a card with cash in it. I usually send very nice gifts, but I just can't this year.
Would it be better to send a five dollar bill or five one dollar bills for a six Year old?
My employer pays for one pair of prescription safety glasses. Mine look decent on me.
A pair of glasses that aren't safety glasses will set me back $300. That's going to wreck my budget.
Would it be too weird to just wear the safety glasses all the time? My cousin says it would be strange if I showed up for a date like that, but I've given up on dating (and socializing in general) so nobody will see me ouyside of work unless I'm picking up groceries or filling my gas tank anyway.
