Like many of you, I run with a small town volunteer department. People call us heroes and I get bothered by it. I’m no hero, I’m just a neighborhood guy who shows up when that bell rings. Anyone else feel the same way or am I insane?

Alright. Being that this sub was helpful yesterday regarding the massive debt owed to a friend, I request your advice on another matter. My brother’s bachelor party is coming up soon and the guys wanna treat him to a steak dinner. I recommended Steak ‘N Shake and they all laughed and said it was a burger joint. It has “steak” in the name! Who’s in the wrong here? Help me out.
So, I borrowed $2,000.00 from a friend a while back (more like twenty years ago) and I never repaid him for it. I feel really bad and I want to make it right. He’s also in poor health. Should I offer to pay him now or use it to offset any funeral costs?
