Indian man rejected from H-1B lottery thrice spent ₹12.4 lakh to secure ‘another way’ to stay in US

The H-1B lottery does not select the most talented workers; it selects the luckiest ones.

Just imagine being able to do all of the right things:
🎓 Getting a US education.
💼 Securing a fantastic job.
📈 Advancing your career.
💰 Paying your taxes.
🚫 But still getting rejected. Not just one or two times but three times!

As an example, one Indian professional had to shell out more than ₹12.4 lakh and prepare a 700-page-long O-1 visa application just to be able to work in the US after being rejected from the H-1B lottery three times.

Isn't it absurd?

Because of the lottery system, a person was forced to devote months proving themselves to be "extraordinary."

How many talented people give up in silence?
How many companies lose good employees because of a lottery?

The American dream should not depend on winning a lottery.

Is it the case that the current system rewards talent or luck? (Source news Hindustan Times)

US faces $3.4bn hit as international enrolments fall

Anticipated drops in international student numbers this fall are expected to cost the US $3.4bn in economic impact and 39,000 jobs, new analysis has revealed.

America had spent decades developing the image of the best place on Earth for foreign students.

And now it’s watching billions leave.

The projected $3.4 billion in losses is not a figure. It’s a vacant classroom, a failing local economy, lack of innovations, and countless students opting for other countries which have made them sure of their visa status and future.

And the most frustrating thing?

Foreign students are not just “tuition payers.” They conduct scientific researches, rent apartments, support the local economy, make up the work force, and often become entrepreneurs.

When all they receive from the state is an impression of uncertainty, they do not stand around waiting – they go elsewhere.

This is not the time to stop the race for students. If America does not earn back their trust, others will be glad to provide it.

Sometimes, the greatest loss is not financial.

It’s when the very people you needed choose not to come. Resource PIE News

81% of Indian students now plan to return home after studying abroad

It is revealing, indeed.

For a long while, "study abroad" was almost synonymous with "settle abroad."

Things have changed now.

Immigration laws and policies, tightening visa regulations, soaring cost of living, uncertain job markets, and growing competition for post-study work opportunities are forcing students to reconsider their long-term career plans. Simultaneously, India is offering more career prospects, growing startup culture, and internationally competitive salary packages in various industries. (The Times of India)

It does not mean that the idea of studying abroad is passé.

It just means that students are getting smarter.

Study abroad for world-class education, global exposure, research, and international networking, not because you take your residence visa for granted.

The future does not belong to brain drain anymore.

It belongs to brain circulation—study worldwide and make impact wherever there is better career opportunity.

Study abroad for a career, not for immigration.

United States immigration policies introduce tighter H-1B layoff regulations.

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has proposed a new regulation that could eliminate the 60-day job search grace period for H-1B visa holders and other temporary foreign workers following a layoff. Under the new proposed policy, affected foreign workers who lose their jobs would be required to leave the United States immediately. They would no longer be permitted to search for a new employer or switch their immigration status from within the country unless granted special discretion by the USCIS.
