So the coppers have recently recovered my KTM Duke 390 2021 model and I have collected it and anchored it with all sorts of new security features whilst waiting to decide what to do with it. The scumbags who stole it had it for 3 days (I only owned it for 2) and in those days they have smashed up the ignition badly to get it started (with a few other minor damages) and it seems to be done without any wiring (a screwdriver most likely. I am very unfamiliar) and I am looking to get it started to check the engine health in the state it is and any other issues that can only be seen after starting the engine. It seems the gas tank is only half empty so they didn't manage to ride it for too long (it was on a full tank). The back wheel clearly showed burnouts and wheelies done and I just simply can't commit to paying for the ignition and other damages until I know for certain the engine is fine. I really don't fancy going with insurance since I am only 21 and Redclick will not go easy on my premium (I am on a provisional on my first year). An assessor called in by redclick came to take pictures and take a look at the bike. He told me exactly what I already knew about seeing the bike which is the ignition needs to be replaced to check if the engine is fine. However I can't go and pay to replace and also labour for ignition before I even know if the bike engine is damaged beyond repair since I doubt insurance would cover me for this. (He claimed it's not a write off but that's just from visible damages which there are not any signs of crash) I understand this is a delicate subject so if anyone is willing to help we can talk through DMS for more details.
