Canadian visiting with a loudmouth mother-in-law...

Been staying up here since the election, but I'm making an exception for my Michigan bros. I can't quit you! Personally, I'm not one for talking politics with strangers, especially on vacation... but my mother-in-law is a die-hard anti-Trumper and I don't know if she'll be able to keep her mouth shut. Should I be concerned that she's going to piss people off?

Can I access Xfinity cable on a Samsung SmartTV with a chromebox or other connecting device?

Just got a second tv and don't want to pay $15 a month for another Rogers box.

What type of shows should CBC Radio add to the weekly lineup?

I'm a little bored - much as I love CBC Radio - especially with the weekend daytime shows.

  1. A sports show - with the kind of cultural/political/economic analysis you'd expect from CBC plus the big personalities and drama. It's kind of wild that this hasn't been tried in decades (remember Inside Track?).

  2. another retread of an old idea - would love to see a global round-up of under-reported stories from around the world with the best of BBC/NPR/etc international reporting + CBC reporting from outside North America - an emphasis on the Asian news that daily shows struggle to cover due to time zones would be great on a Saturday or Sunday show.

  3. All-Canadian arts show that is open to developing newly emerging artists, music, film, tv, etc. - Q and Commotion are very mainstream and celebrity/American-obsessed.

  4. Brave Old Waves - a reboot of Brave New Waves for its original audience - now in their 50's and 60's - using a mix of archival interviews and new interviews with musicians from the 80's - 00's.

Podcast alternatives to Canadaland?

Frontburner... and uh... what else? What else is out there? Not strictly media analysis (though that would be nice) but Canadian news and politics talk. Side note: I wonder why Canada doesn't seem to produce its own partisan daily news pods in the mode of Bulwark/Pod Save.../Chapo etc etc Or maybe it does and I don't know about them. Charlie Angus should have a podcast.

There getting more standardized but they used to have slightly different menus. OG was Kensington, right? Still my fave. Parkdale one has really improved - was a bit uneven when it first opened but seems way more solid now.

I've seen two nice places, both true one bdrms with eparate kitchen/dining room, living room, and bedroom. Very clean, new appliances, and they're asking $1850 and $1900 (including all utilities except internet). Both feel a little high to me, but it's been awhile since I've looked.

I’m 56, just started going to the gym very regularly a year ago. I’m very self-conscious and not a jock, so it took a lot to get there - but I love it, and a nice morning workout sets up my whole day and makes me feel good about myself. This morning, I set up a matt in a quiet area away from everyone else and started doing my kneeling kettlebell routine. I had headphones on, just zoning out. A woman set up right next to me, and after a few minutes said, “You’re very loud. I know you can’t help it, but it’s very distracting.” I just got up and left, didn’t even finish my workout. l am an adult dad with teenagers and a high pressure job. Nothing phases me. But this crushed me. I just felt stupid and gross and like I’d been making a spectacle of myself and disturbing other people all this time. I know she’s the asshole here and I shouldn’t give it any air, but right now I feel like I don’t even want to go back.
