Little Caesars Arena

I have never been to Detroit and I taking my daughter to the Melanie Martinez concert. I have always heard that downtown Detroit is nice and its not to bad. Is this true? Is there any place I should stay away from when I am there. Also looking for a nice hotel possibly that close to the concert. Thanks for the the help.

Looking for food recs near The Siren Hotel

Hey everyone from Detroit, my bf and I need help finding an upscale Italian or steakhouse restaurant by our hotel, the siren! We’re visiting from Philly so we’re used to really good food at a reasonable price. I’ve been searching on TikTok and instagram but have yet to find anything that wows us so I figured I’d try here! We’d really appreciate any recommendations for our weekend. Reason we’re going is for the Phillies vs tigers game :P
Thank you in advance💖
See your city soon!

Any lesbians move from Chicago to Detroit area?

Originally from southwest Michigan, I’ve spent around the last decade of my 43 year old life in Chicago. To be closer to family and more affordable housing, I’m considering moving to Detroit/Royal Oak/Ferndale. Just wondering if anyone has moved there from Chicago and how you feel about it. Bonus points if you’re a lesbian because it’s so so so so gay in Chicago, the idea of moving makes me worry about the possible small dating pond since I’m single and don’t want to be single forever.

Thanks!!

Looking for a place to crash for a short time

Hi all! I've lived in Detroit for awhile and I love this city. About a month ago, I lost my job, and I've been without income. I've received another job opportunity, but the next start date will be July 15th. I've been assuring my landlord that I'm doing my best through odd jobs and such, but he told me to be out by Friday.

I have nowhere to go, and I'm kinda desperate. I'm more than willing to do around the house jobs, babysitting, anything just for a couch or a spare room for a week or two when I start working again. Can anyone help? If not it's okay, I understand we're all strangers :)

Potentially moving from Royal Oak/Ferndale to Detroit – neighborhood recommendations?

My partner and I (both in our early 30s) are thinking about moving into Detroit next year. We currently live in the Royal Oak/Ferndale area and love the walkability, but we'd like to actually be in the city.

We're looking for somewhere that's safe, walkable, and relatively quiet. My partner is in healthcare and occasionally has to get up in the middle of the night when on call, so we'd like to be in a safe area and to avoid areas where street racing, loud cars, or a lot of late night noise are common.

Downtown is probably more action than we're looking for, but we've been considering Corktown and Midtown. We'd most likely be looking for a top-floor apartment in a newer building.

For those who live in the city, would Corktown or Midtown be a good fit? Are there any other neighborhoods or apartment buildings you'd recommend?

Dating apps in Detroit?

I'm planning to travel to Detroit by myself (female) in a few months. What safe dating apps do people use there, or what's a good place to meet guys? I've heard it can be dangerous, and I wouldn't want my Tinder date to rob me lol.

I'm not from the US.

Moving to Detroit

I’ve worked downtown Detroit since 2010 and am starting to think seriously about moving closer to work to eliminate the commute. Right now I live in Woodhaven, but as my kids get older, I'm finding myself wanting more of an urban lifestyle.
I'm really drawn to neighborhoods like Woodbridge and Southwest Detroit because they seem to have a lot of character, walkability, local restaurants, and a strong sense of community. I'm open to other neighborhood suggestions/recommendations as well.

Bachelor party ideas

Hello everyone,

I’m having my bachelor party in Detroit in late August. Was hoping to get some recommendations for things to do. We have the peddle bar schedule but other than that we’ve got nothing. Going to be 13 people. There are no tigers and not interested in a lions preseason game. Any suggestions on activities, restaurants, and bars! Thank you!

Volunteering opportunities in/around Detroit?

I am specifically looking for volunteering opportunities that require some physical labor, like working outdoors removing invasive plant species or doing barn work or splitting wood or something--I spend forty hours a week at a computer and feel like I'm going crazy. I've looked into some horse rescues around here but they are requiring references to be allowed to volunteer or are an hour+ away.

Rent Prices Are Making Starting Over Really Hard

Going through a rough situation right now. My fiancée and I recently split up, and since it’s her place, I’ll need to move out soon. The hardest part is finding something affordable. It’s just going to be my 10-year-old son and me, and with rent being what it is, I’m realizing how tough it is to find a two-bedroom for around $1,000 a month.
I work in Sterling Heights and share custody of my son, so I’m trying to stay within about a 45-minute commute if possible. At this point, I’m not worried about having the nicest place—I just need something safe enough and affordable so I can keep being there for my kid.
If anyone has been in a similar situation or knows of apartments or areas that fit that budget, I’d really appreciate hearing about them.

Tailor for women’s alterations - Detroit or suburbs?

Hello all, I’m looking for an excellent tailor who does alterations on women’s clothing. I had the perfect person for many years in Southfield, but she has retired. I would appreciate any recommendations, in the city of Detroit itself or in the suburbs (Ann Arbor is OK too) - TIA!

What to do on a Tuesday night?

Partner and I are visiting overnight and didn’t plan well. I really wanted to go to Cliff Bell’s, but they’re not open tonight. Are there any other jazz bars that are for sure to have a band tonight? What other things would you suggest doing? Day or night life doesn’t matter, we will be there a full day! Thanks in advance so much.

Visiting this weekend

Hello, I’m visiting from Chicago with my two best friends, one of which is celebrating a birthday very soon. I’m looking to find some fun activities for us to do this weekend. Hoping to use the car as little as possible so taking transit up and down Woodward is my hope, but we can also Uber/Lyft if need be. Unless there’s a better ride share option

- Birthday girl is not big into art museums, but she’s interested in the Wright Museum and the Detroit Historical Museum, so we got that covered

- Queer friendly bars, we saw SoHo as an option but let me know your thoughts.

- House music! Where can we casually enjoy some live listening?

- Either low-energy or low-pressure dancing. Not exactly into clubbing like we once were, but we love to be out

- Vegetarian food recs. Two of us don’t eat meat, but I dabble into pescatarian every now and then

- Are there 420 friendly events? Is that a thing?

- What’s the best ghost tour?

- Any one week late Juneteenth activities going on?

I’ve been to Detroit twice before but my stay was extremely short so I didn’t get to explore much. I’d love to see more of Detroit away from downtown, plus we’re already from Chicago so we’re trying to avoid anything that we could do at home (although your river walk seems much more interesting than ours…)

Sorry to be one of a million posts like this! But I appreciate local opinions over some ChatGPT tourist guide
