Coolant leaking from Lexus Ls400
Just did a timing belt job on my 1996 Lexus LS400 (1UZ-FE). Replaced the timing belt, water pump, thermostat, and coolant.
Right after the job I noticed:
low idle around 500 RPM
weak heat at idle
coolant leaking/dripping near the EVAP system area
The slight misfire/shake was actually there BEFORE the timing belt job, so I don’t think that part is related.
At first I thought the car was overheating, but after driving it around the temp gauge now stays right in the middle and seems normal. If I rev the car to around 2k RPM the heat gets very hot, which makes me think there may have been trapped air in the cooling system.
The coolant appears to be dripping near the EVAP/charcoal canister area around:
Lexus 77740-50042 Charcoal Canister Assembly
Lexus 77770-50010 Tank Assy
I never disconnected or touched those EVAP hoses, I see coolant leaking from a hose there. But I don’t know why that is, we did the procedure of filling the coolant and airing it out. Is that normal? Maybe I’m guessing it was just overfilled because now it’s not leaking as much just very slight drips .Before I tear everything apart again, what are the most common coolant leak points after a 1UZ timing belt/water pump job?
