It never made sense to me why Criterion would release all of his work into one set when most of his films are already available on UHD from them in the US and The Straight Story already has a definitive 4K from StudioCanal UK (and extremely likely to be coming from Criterion here soon). That said, my guess the "Lynch box set" that Jennifer was referring to is either a) a short films set coming from Criterion, or b) a filmography set coming from StudioCanal Germany/France, where they have the rights to almost all of his work.

Kind of annoying as someone who preordered the Arbelos BD after Radiance/Transmission initially confirmed they won't release a UHD, yet at the same time, I prefer the Transmission artwork while also maintaining the Arbelos has the stronger set of extras with those short films, so I'll likely get the Transmission and swap the BDs. (Hopefully, someone out there will only want the Transmission BD and I can sell it to them.)

Haven't seen this yet and so I did not bet on this being the first non-Kubrick Criterion to get an FiM encode but I'm all for it, keep these collaborations coming!

That is all to say…this is a real treat, one I don't take for granted.

Release date is set for October 6th, though like the upcoming Warner Archive 4K of OUT OF THE PAST (initially dated for September 1st but delayed to the 15th), I would not be surprised if there are production delays. Anyway, suuuuuuuuuper exciting!!!!!!

Bruno @ Radiance has previously said that whether or not UHD upgrades of pre-existing Radiance titles will include remastered BDs will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Judging by the wording in the description, this won't have a remastered Blu-Ray as it looks like that of The Hot Spot 4K before Radiance accommodated the change, and why did Radiance accommodate that change in the end? Because we asked them to. I understand not remastering the included Blu-Ray of Planet in the Vampires as it was already sourced from the same 4K scan despite being a 2K master, but the current Blu-Ray of Miami Blues that exists is sourced from an extremely dated master, and including a newly remastered BD would be beneficial for sales as it would make this release appeal to collectors who do not have an intention of going the 4K route but want a remastered Blu-Ray of the film.

So, if you're interested in Miami Blues 4K and/or don't own a 4K setup but want a 4K-remastered Blu-Ray of it, I implore you to email Radiance ASAP and make your voice heard.

As a dual format guy, I really wish they'd have them remastered—one of my bigger frustrations with Criterion is their tendency to recycle their pre-existing BDs for their 4K upgrades unless of course they need to re-encode the BD anyway, such as Killer's Kiss and presumably The Killing given the former now shares a disc with Fear & Desire instead—but I won't let this deter my sheer excitement whatsoever. That said, I am nonetheless very glad Capelight are still releasing their own 4K and remastered BD of Paths soon.

Update: The Killing is also going to have the same crusty old BD in there. Ironic that Killer's Kiss gets a remastered BD while The Killing doesn't!

Zero regrets buying the StudioCanal UK 4K as that is a perfect and unimpeachable presentation (FiM-encoded to boot), but as a dual format guy, this does make me glad I never bought the StudioCanal UK remastered Blu-Ray (UK 4K is not dual format), as I will wait and see if Criterion release it now for a quality Blu-Ray disc, since NexSpec have really improved as of late and I'm admittedly curious about whichever exclusive extras they'll include.

I doubt Criterion will upgrade Cul-De-Sac to 4K because Polanski (and it's frankly cowardly of them because art is made by plenty of people and all art deserves to be preserved), but To Be or Not To Be realistically could be upgraded to 4K and I could 100% see Criterion licensing Minnie and Moskowitz from Universal.

Includes better compression/encoding and audio than the Criterion Blu-Ray (per bestblurays.com), plus its own exclusive set of extras, including an audio commentary by Terry Jones, plus reversible artwork containing original poster artwork. Once again, this release is REGION B-LOCKED.

Bought this thinking all units came with a booklet given how few units supposedly sold for Arrow at the time, but sadly that is not the case (and yes, I know booklets are limited to first pressings, but I was not sure how many pressings there were before this went OOP), so selling it off for a bit less than what I had spent on it. Either way, my loss is your gain.
