Can I drive like this?

Yes yes yes I know I can't obviously. This happend in a rental van on a highway at 4am. This is what happens when the rental company puts a plug in the sidewall of the tire and you didn't notice when you took the keys.

2wd Slash with paddle tires

I recently got the Traxxas paddle tires for my 2wd Slash. Put them on went for a bash in dry sand, didn't make any wheelies and lost drive after a few tries already. There was smoke coming from the clutch. Haven't had such issues at all with this car for a full year. I guess the paddles have a lot of grip?

Took it apart and found the nylon nut on the clutch the nylon had melted and the nut came loose... Put a new nut on and put the clutch a bit tighter.

Next week went out again with a tighter clutch and hooray it did wheelies, for a little bit untill I lost drive again. The spurgear lost it's teeth. Upon inspection of the spur the little bearing also got really hot the week before, the metal was all purple

Am I the only one here? Did I do something wrong? Do I need to be more carefull with throttle application.

Driveshaft grease

Went boating yesterday with my Traxxas Disruptor.

One thing I started to notice is how much water gets in now. When I just got this boat I didn't know how often I needed to regrease the driveshaft, so I used it for months and it would not get any water inside.

After I cleaned and greased the driveshaft for the first time, it seems to need redoing every single time now. I would empty one battery and the boat is dry, but halfway through the second battery there's so much water in the hull it's touching the motor. When I get home and take the driveshaft out the entire shaft is wet and there is no grease left on it.

I've tried different methods:

  1. take driveshaft out, let the tube dry, apply grease to driveshaft, cover it completely, put driveshaft back in
    1. what this method does is leave most of the grease in/on drivestrut when you push the driveshaft back in and not get grease into the tube that goes into the boat
  2. take driveshaft out, remove drive strut, let the tube dry, push the grease into the tube untill it comes out at the motor, then put grease on the piece of driveshaft that goes through the drive strut and put driveshaft back in.

Both methods have the same result: the boat takes on water during/after the second battery.

I'm using the red marine grease from Traxxas. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong, or if I need to use different grease? Or maybe this is just normal?

Traxxas Disruptor range improved

The range on my Disruptor was just a bit shorter then the lenght of the pond I regularly go to.

Did some searching and testing, asked around online. Turns out you can increase the range on your Disruptor by simply binding a TQI remote with the TQ receiver in the boat.

In my case the steering was reversed, left was right and right was left. You can change this on the TQI remote though and this is a 'per vehicle setting' so any cars that you have also linked to this TQI remote will still go left when steering left etc.

Need new tires in a few months, looking for advice.

2 years into Focus mk4 ownership and the front tires are getting close to replacement. I have a 2019 mk4 ST-Line, so with multilink suspension in the back.

Current tires front and rear are Vredestein Ultrac, 215/50/R17 95Y.

I just got my tire thread gauge thing and walked around the car, front tires are between 3 and 3.5mm. Rear tires are about 5.5mm so probably good for another year or so. I don't want to take those front tires into winter.

Looking for some advice. I want a good quality summer tire, winters aren't extreme here so with good tread any tire can handle that. We do get a fair bit of rain so needs to handle that well.

Rear tires probably move them to the front and put new ones on the rear and then when the front ones wear down replace those aswell, probably next year.

My profile as old as ETS2 itself

Game profile is almost as old as ETS2 itself. First picture is current truck and the other picture is the very first truck I bought (and still have it) in this save with almost 700.000km's.

TQI receiver in Traxxas Disruptor

The regular water I go to with my Disruptor is about 120 meters long, I stand at one end of the water as that is the only spot were you can launch and retrieve boats. The range on my Disruptor's TQ receiver and remote is about 90, so I constantly run out of range.

Thinking of putting a TQI receiver in it which will have better range, I already have TQI remotes. I've never replaced a receiver before. I'm guessing this will just work but anything to look out for? I'm guessing I need to calibrate steering and throttle and stuff.

Balkonreling bevestiging

Mini 1 still going strong here, anyone else?

I bought the Mini 1 FMC 5 years ago as a birthday present for myself. Still has original batteries (which last about 25 minutes now instead of 30-35) and last week when I was flying it an error popped up saying there was something wrong with a motor or prop. I located the correct motor and propblade and it had the tiniest little cut in it.

So that was my very first propblade replacement on this thing. All the others are still unused in their packaging.

Got almost 80km's under it's belt total. Only downside I think is the range when there is no line of sight between the drone and the remote, even within 50 meters or something if I get the drone behind a tree the signal gets choppy. I've gotten it to go about 2km's from the remote over farmfields and such before I really lost signal.

The new Traxxas cars, thoughts?

So I've seen reviews of the new 2wd en 4x4 Slash. What do we all think about those and the other new 'VX3' models?

  • The new remote looks a bit toy grade but my guess is that it's just a new plastic mold with the same TQI electronics in it, the cars also seem to have the regular TQi receiver in it. So you can just link an older Traxxas remote to the car.
  • The 4x4 Slash now has a LCG chassis as standard which is nice but the center driveshaft now is made from plastic, has a center support bearing which is gonna get dirty real quick and need regular cleaning, something the old car didn't have.
  • Were the center driveshaft connects to the center diff it also seems very exposed to dirt getting into the spur, pinion and center diff area
  • Added cooling from factory is nice allthough I've never needed it
  • New body now slopes down a lot at the front, possibly to stop ballooning. I'm considering this body for my old Slash 4x4 as they seem swappable, the clipless mounts are all the same location
  • The new motor (with integrated fan) is 3200kv while the old one was 3500kv. Lower kv means more torque and the added cooling can mean that these can handle running in grass (for example) a bit better.

Note:

Some reviews mention the training mode, TSM and the capability to run both 2S and 3S on these cars as if it's a new feature. But the old cars already do that aswell. In one review I heard the guy say this is basically the succesor to the BL2S models which I don't understand at all.

My dad, aunt, and grandfather. Netherlands, late 60's

My grandfather died before I was born but I would've loved to have known him. He was a police officer shortly after WW2. He lived on the family farm which they had to leave during WW2 because it was dangerously close to a railway that went to Germany (risk of aerial bombing). Became a farmer later. Same farm is still in the family.

I'm freaked out

Not really sure what I'm doing here, just scared shitless I might have Lyme I guess.

I've had this small wound on my leg for almost 2 weeks which itched a bit, never noticed a tick there. Last weekend the wound had a white ring around it, which was surrounded by red slightly swollen and itchy skin. It seems an exact match with erythema migrans, the first symptom.

Talked to my doctor today and he prescribed antibiotics which I can pick up as soon as they open tomorrow. Should get better within 48 hours and if not I gotta come back in.

I'm not noticing anything else besides the red skin, I am slightly tired but I've had a busy few weeks, body temp is normal etc.

The price of hardware

Our company has, lets call them 'mechanics', they visit customers onsite to perform work there. They have to write down every item/material they use at that visit; nails, screws, nuts, bolts, all kinds of materials etc. When they return they turn in the filled out form and someone has to put that into our business software and the customer get's an invoice.

Now, the business software that we use offers an seperate 'in-field' application specifically for this purpose that allows the 'mechanic' to just fill out that form digitally. This saves time and administrative work.

But the software can only run on Windows and the device needs to have the ability to take pictures (this is for insurance reasons for the business we are in). This basically has us stuck on Surface tablets. Because they'll be used in the field they need 5G capability and because we want them managed by Intune it needs to be W11 Pro.

The cheapest we can find is 1700 euro per unit, still need a SIM-card, screenprotector and a sturdy case around it. Now they want 3 units for testing. But we have 5 company sites each with about 10 onsite service crew. We're looking at 70k or more by the time we're done. Which is stupidly expensive.

We also dont yet have a solution to securely let that tablet connect to our system and let that application talk to the SQL database for it.

No we are a financially healthy company, but that 70k comes out of our yearly IT budget. We are in need of some new ESX hosts this year as our current ones are already 7 years old. Used to be 9k each, now 18k each....

How are other sysadmins handling this insanity?

Defender guesstimates the OS...?

I'm getting hammered on the security reports for having 200+ Windows 10 devices in my network.

These devices are mostly on our guest wifi network. I recognize some of the device names as from a known supplier and I know for a fact they are compliant and uptodate with Windows 11 on them. But Defender just says 'nope Windows 10 1909'. Hell one device shows up as a Intune (from a supplier's tenant) device with Windows XP on it. Pretty sure that's not even possible.

Problem is those devices are not on our network long enough for Defender to figure out the actual OS, it also doesn't help that Defender takes an eon to update the device stats these days so even if the device is active for 4-5 hours the stats are just incorrect. So now I'm stuck with those devices in my reports for 6 months. I don't want to have to go through all those devices and make exceptions for all of them.

How do I automate this? How are others handling this?

Thoughts on the UDR so far

First proper drive in the sand yesterday, quiet corner of a motorcross track, track had just been graded after a competition so it was smooth, not to dusty, not to wet/muddy, it was perfect.

  • 6s is almost to much, can't go full throttle unless you're on smooth tarmac and go in a straight line
  • 4s is just a bit to slow though
  • Having to rebuild the battery tray for a 4s battery to fit is stupid and annoying
  • Tranmissioncase and motor gets really hot, I burned myself a few times when I was converting the battery tray to 4s
  • Having to open the battery tray and unplug the batteries to turn the car off is the dumbest shit ever, you have a button to turn it on, why not have the button also turn the car off?
  • Can't really take a slight corner at somewhat of a high speed, rolled the car a few times, if I release the throttle in time I can sometimes safe it but not always. Either running out of skill or it's because of the way the suspension works on the UDR?

Convinced my parents to watch SG1

Once a week I go to my parents for dinner and we always watch a movie or series after. I suggested we watch the Stargate movie, then told them about the SG1 series after and somehow they love it. We watch 3 episodes at a time. They are not into sci-fi at all but my mom just loves it for the storytelling, the humour, the different planets etc. My dad is 72 and doesn't really understand what's going on but cracks up with O'Neill's jokes everytime.

We are on season 2, ep14 now 😄 Got me wondering how the MALP got through the second gate unscathed when the gate was lying flat in the crate at the NID base.

Disruptor instability

Had a Disruptor for a year now, always ran it on 3S and a few weeks ago got a 4S battery. Notice the boat is very unstable at highspeeds. It needs water slick as glass or it will go over or suddenly jump left or right which is a challenge on narrow bits of water.

On 1 4S 6700mah battery it went upside down about 4 times

Is there a way to make it more stable?

Zonwering
