Home Internet 5G

I had T-Mobile Home 5G previously at a different house and their portal/T-Life all let you see cellular statistics and there was the 3rd party app HINT Control that provided even more detail. Both were helpful to finding find the best location in your house.

Is that nothing equivalent with StraightTalk Home 5G?

Upgrade FortiManager Cloud from 7.2 to 7.4--any gotchas

Has anyone encountered any issues or gotchas when upgrading FortiManager Cloud (or even regular FortiManager) from 7.2 to 7.4?

We are an all-7.2 shop (60F, 80F, 90G, 120G, 400F models) except FortiAnalyzer on-premise (already 7.4) and need to get to 7.4 ASAP.

Organizationally, our software lifecycle policies won't let us go to 7.6 quite yet.

We use our Fortigates for SD-WAN only with provisioning templates from FortiManager Cloud.

US Mobile Multi-Line Save the Day

I was staying at a hotel in Lafayette LA and the hotel Internet WiFi was pulling sub 3 Mbps with high packet loss.

My primary is Warp (Premium Unlimited) and it didn’t have great performance either (like 20 Mbps). But my Dark Star multi-line was pulling near 200 Mbps on 5G+. Fired up the hotspot and family happily used the Internet. Yeah I burned through the 50 GB but by then it was bedtime.

Interesting performance in outskirts of Tupelo MS

Staying at a hotel in the outskirts of Tupelo MS. Hotel Internet sucks (sub 10 Mbps). US Mobile Warp is my Primary and I get 4/4 bars 5G UW and 500-600 Mbps down and 40 Mbps.

US Mobile Darkstar (multi-line) is only getting LTE (4/4 bars) and 6-7 Mbps down and 512 Kbps up.

US Mobile Light Speed (multi-line) is getting 1/4 bars 5G, 2/4 bars LTE and both have terrible performance. Sub 1 Mbps.

Data Waster mode not working?

I have Warp Unlimited Premium. I turned on Data Waster in the app. Waited 10 minutes, rebooted phone and still getting sub 5 Mbps at fast.com. Fire up Proton VPN and get 90 Mbps at fast.com.

iPhone SE 3. I have 3/4 bars and 5G UW icon.

This issue was identified nearly 9 years ago:

https://chasechristian.com/blog/2017/04/comcast-and-dhcp/

but still occurs on occasion for my Comcast Xfinitiy until I change my MAC address on my router to get a new public IP.

Behavior for me is just like described in this blog:

1 - Comcast DHCP server will issue a ~2 hour lease:

interface=ether04-comcast add-default-route=yes default-route-distance=255 use-peer-dns=no use-peer-ntp=no dhcp-options=hostname,clientid script=/ip route set [find comment="comcast-default"] gateway=($"gateway-address") disabled=no status=bound address=73.232.48.210/23 gateway=73.232.48.1 dhcp-server=76.96.34.14 primary-dns=75.75.75.75 secondary-dns=75.75.76.7 expires-after=2h8m43s

2 - Then half-way through the lease (about once an hour), my router will do a pro-active DHCPRENEW, but Comcast's DHCP servers sends back a DHCPNACK:

Message dhcp-client on ether04-comcast lost IP address 73.232.48.210 - received NAK from dhcp server 76.96.34.14

3 - This causes my router to flush the lease, resulting in a brief drop in my connectivity until my router does a DHCPREQUEST and gets the same public IP address.

As someone who has worked as a Network Architect/Network Engineer at Fortune 10 companies, it's insane to me this broken DHCP server behavior has existed for almost a decade.

How many hours of Comcast tech support and customer's time have been wasted due to this broken DHCP server behavior?

I referred someone back in January and he created an account. He didn’t order service until April. Based on the screenshot, he he won’t complete 6 billing cycles in time for me to get the reward because the clock started when he created the account? Huh?

And the potential referral reward is only $25 even though he ported four lines total—three unlimited with multi-line…which is the same potential referral reward as someone else I referred who ported only one line. Huh?

And the reward requires the referrals complete six cycles even though all my referrals bought annual plans? Huh?

And the rewards are pre-paid Mastercard cards you can’t check the balance on without talking to support. Huh?

I like US Mobile but this referral reward program seems kind of dumb and designed to minimize reward payouts.
