Service that CVT!!

Just did service on my 2009 jeep patriot CVT. Full fluid flush and changed the transmission cooler filter as well as the filter inside the transmission. I wish I got more photos of how gross these were as they have never been serviced in 210k miles. I decided to do this because my transmission was noisy and kept overheating, as I am about to road trip it 11 hours this week and back.

Make sure you buy a dipstick to measure the coolant levels when refilling, it is VERY IMPORTANT.

Note: if you’re just doing a fluid flush there’s no point, because your filters are still gross. DO BOTH I recommend it.
I set 3 days aside to do this, I could’ve knocked it out in one but it’s 100° and I’m working in the dirt. Very hot 😂

Transmission swap

Planning on sourcing a junkyard transmission to replace my current one that’s on the verge of failing. I also plan on adding a transmission cooler to prevent failure from overheating. Anyone who has sourced one from a junkyard, what is the best way to know if it’s a good trans or not? And what is the fastest way I can do this myself with one other person? I have to drive 10hrs in a week and a half. (Photo for traction)

Engine burps and stutters?

Not sure how to describe this. I drive a 2009 Jeep Patriot 2.4L. When going to accelerate either at a stop sign or at a light the engine sputters and then lurches forward before fully accelerating. Sometimes even when I’m not trying to move, the engine “burps” and the RPMs drop down to 500 and then back up to 800. Only once it has “burped” and my engine shut off completely but hasn’t happened since.

Things I’ve replaced thinking it’s the culprits:

PCV valve
Crankshaft position sensor
Throttle body
Crankcase breather hose
Air filter

Im officially at a loss of what it might be.

She can off road no sweat!!

I took my FWD 09 patriot on a moderate trail today and she did great!! I went solo when it was dry because I didn’t want to get stick and it was my first time (go responsibly) but it was super fun do to the washouts and massive dugouts in the dirt from where water flowed/people got stuck 😂

Just added 5hp

This is probably the dumbest thing I’ve done to either of my cars, its so out of place I might have to do the rest of the engine plastics 😂

I know it won’t last long but hey it’s removable

Gascap but not?

I made a post about this a few months ago and it went away but now it’s back and with a check engine code (yay!)

My Jeep is throwing the code saying that my gascap isn’t on all the way, I don’t really trust what OBD scanners say half the time so I’m assuming it’s some sort of EVAP leak in either a sensor or a hose, I’ve replaced the fuel cap already a few months ago and that’s what made it go away the first time. Any ideas on what this may actually be? I’m not gonna stress over it but it’s quite annoying to have flashing in my face among my bad wheel sensor lights.

(No my gas cap is not loose either).

Wanting to LS swap, where do I even start?

This is going to be utterly ridiculous but I haven’t seen this done yet and I love my current vehicle so I figured this would be my perfect test dummy within the next year or two.

I believe my 2009 Jeep patriot is getting up there in mileage/age and I’m not sure how much longer she’s going to last, so when the engine finally gives out I want to LS swap it. I have no idea where I’d even start or how I’d plan this out.
(It’s currently between LS and 350 Chevy swapping it with full carb injection)

What I plan on so far:
5.3L- no more then 350HP
A mild cam
Keeping mostly 5.3 stock for reliability and I don’t need crazy power, just want to have some fun
I’d probably pluck the engine and transmission out of a GXP or impala SS so I don’t have to do any crazy modifications to RWD convert it,
IF I did go the RWD route- how difficult would it be and is it worth it for a brick?

I’ve done plenty of car work before, I’ve even restored some 90s vehicles, but I’ve never done a full swap so I have no idea what to expect. Realistic?

For tuning and rewiring as well, I’m assuming whatever car I pluck out the engine and transmission from I’m going to need the ECU from, but do I need a new wiring harness as well? Or would I have to modify the current one?

-Thanks for any information if this is even possible!

IR LED> 12v source

Looking to wire singular ir LED diodes to a 12v source. I know I need resistors, but what kind and how can I successfully wire them to the 12v source without them overheating and/or exploding?

They would also be connected to a toggle switch to be activated if that helps.

Watch your wiring!

Blower fan where it blows the AC out under the passenger dash, BEWARE!! I almost just caught my jeep on fire turning on my AC! Smelled burning plastic coming from the passenger side, low and behold the wiring was trying to fry itself- it’s fixable but I’m so glad I caught it 😬
