Protecting a £2000 thin-and-light (Zephyrus G16): Hard shell sleeve, tech backpack, or both? (Looking for recommendations)

I recently picked up a Zephyrus G16. It’s incredibly thin, which is great for portability, but I'm slightly paranoid about protecting the OLED screen and aluminum chassis in a packed bag. I carry it along with a foldable stand, mouse, and sometimes a couple of books jacket or water bottle.

My current backpack is just an outdoor daypack with zero laptop protection. I'm torn on the safest way to protect my investment:

Option A: Buy a rigid, hard-shell sleeve (like the Thule Gauntlet) to absorb pressure from other items, and keep using my current bag. Option B: Upgrade to a dedicated tech backpack with a heavily padded, suspended laptop slot so it survives drops.

If you commute with your thin-and-light gaming laptop: What exact setup do you use? If you have a specific sleeve or a tech backpack you swear by that actually fits a 16-inch chassis safely, I would love to hear your recommendations!

Traveling with the G16: Hard-shell sleeve vs. a suspended backpack? (Looking for recommendations)

Hey everyone, I want to make sure I don't accidentally damage my new G16 (Core Ultra 9 / RTX 5070 Ti) while traveling to meetings, cafes, offices for work etc.

Right now, I use a standard hiking daypack that offers zero drop protection. I'm trying to decide the safest way to transport the laptop without bending the chassis or putting pressure on the device or OLED screen:

1. The Hard Sleeve Route: Keep my current bag and buy a rigid hard-shell sleeve (like the Thule Gauntlet 16") to stop the screen from getting crushed by gear.

2. The Tech Bag Route: Skip the sleeve entirely and invest in a dedicated tech backpack with a suspended laptop compartment (a false bottom).

For those who commute with your G16 daily: What exact setup do you use? If you have a specific sleeve or backpack you swear by that safely accommodates the G16's footprint, I would love your recommendations!

The classic dilemma: Buy a sleeve for my current bag, a dedicated Tech Bag, or a "One-Bag" Hybrid? (16-inch laptop)

I recently bought a new Asus Zephyrus G16 (which shares the exact same footprint as a 16-inch MacBook Pro) and I’m trying to figure out my everyday carry strategy to keep it as safe as possible.

Currently, I use a standard daypack that pulls double-duty. On weekends it holds my hiking gear (water, fleece, waterproofs), and on weekdays I use it for work.

I'm torn between three options and would love your advice:

Option A (The Sleeve): Buy a bombproof hard-shell sleeve (like the Thule Gauntlet) and just shove it into my current hiking bag during the week. Option B (Two Bags): Keep my current bag for the trails, and buy a dedicated Tech EDC backpack for work. It needs a suspended laptop compartment to protect the G16, and enough space for a mouse, charger, and a foldable laptop stand. Option C (The Unicorn Hybrid): Buy a brand new backpack that bridges the gap—professional enough for work meetings, but with enough breathability and weather resistance to handle a day hike with a fleece and water bottles.

If you recommend Option B or C, what specific bags should I be looking at? My priority is absolute protection for the laptop via a suspended compartment.

Accessory recommendations for a new Zephyrus G16 (Ultra 9, RTX 5070 Ti)? Stands, sleeves, and mice 🐭

Hey everyone,

I just picked up the new Zephyrus G16 (Core Ultra 9, RTX 5070 Ti, 32GB RAM) and I want to make sure I'm treating the hardware right for thermals and longevity. I'll mostly be using it at home on a desk, but I'll occasionally move around the house or take it to a coffee shop/studio.

I’m looking to buy a few essentials and would love to know what you are all currently using and loving:

1. Laptop Stand: I don't have an external keyboard yet, so I'll be typing directly on the laptop. I need something that provides an ergonomic typing angle, is stable, but most importantly, leaves the bottom intakes completely unobstructed for cooling. 2. Protective Sleeve: Something high-quality to protect the chassis in transit. 3. Wireless Mouse: Something that bridges the gap between productivity workflow and occasional gaming.

Any specific brands or models you swear by (or any to strictly avoid)? Thanks! ❤️

Light Meter Apps

Hey everyone, happy Saturday. Does anyone have some suggestions for a decent light meter app? Preferably free (with ads or something) but happy to pay a little money up front (no more than £5) for something I can download and use on my android. ☀️

£1750 Budget - Freelance Coding & Casual AAA. Standing in front of a Currys Clearance wall, need a decision!

Budget: £2500 max

Country: UK

Use Case: Mixed. Freelance coding/data analysis (VS Code, 20+ Chrome tabs, local AI model tinkering like Whisper) 5 days a week. Casual gaming 2 nights a week (AAA open-world like RDR2, Elden Ring, and heavy strategy like Total War, Civ).

Preferred Specs: 32GB RAM minimum (for work/AI), RTX 4060 / 5060 / 5070. Quiet cooling profile when not gaming is a must.

Notes:

I am currently standing in a Currys clearance store staring at their whiteboard (full pic attached). I am heavily torn between two completely different paths:

Path A (The Sleeper Beast): Buy the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (RTX 5070) on the board for £1,500. This blows my budget for a handheld console, but it’s an insane price for a 5070 laptop. Is buying a clearance OLED display model a massive risk for burn-in? Can I get it dead silent in Eco Mode for coding?

Path B (The Split Setup): Buy the HP Omen Transcend 14 (RTX 4060) for £860 off the board, which leaves me plenty of cash to buy a dedicated handheld console (like the ROG Ally) for the sofa.

Which of these is the smarter buy on this board for someone who primarily works on their machine but wants high-end casual gaming?

Found an RTX 5070 Zephyrus G16 for £1500 on a clearance board. Is this the ultimate steal or a massive trap?

Hey everyone, I need a quick sanity check. I'm staring at a clearance board right now (cropped pic attached). They have a Zephyrus G16 with an RTX 5070 marked down to £1500. Considering these normally retail for over £3,000 for current specs, this feels suspiciously cheap.

I need a machine that can handle freelance coding, heavy multitasking, and potential local AI tinkering without sounding like a jet engine. I also want to casually run Red Dead Redemption 2 and Elden Ring a couple of nights a week.

Is there a huge risk of OLED burn-in if this turns out to be an ex-display unit that's been running on full brightness?

Assuming it's an open-box return in pristine condition, how well does Eco Mode actually work for keeping the laptop dead silent while coding?

With the RAM being soldered, is 32GB enough headroom for running local LLMs and heavy coding tasks over the next few years?

Are there any known issues with this specific clearance tier I should be checking before I walk to the till?

Hey all, sorry if this has already been answered. I'm new to match betting and was wondering if it's worth signing up to Oddsmonkey or Outplayed or to try go it alone?

Just want to get an idea of what's best before I commit to a subscription.

I'll just be casually doing this for a bit of extra cash in my spare time.

Thanks for any advice.
