Tractor thoughts/review?

I have a little less than a half acre, which amid some recent life changes (a new baby) takes me just long enough to be a bit too time consuming.

My neighbor allows me to use her (gas) tractor, which takes probably about a third of the time. I’ve thought about the Ego tractors, though they are a pretty penny. Does anyone have thoughts or a review — realistically I’m probably looking at the basic tractor, not zero-turn.

How bad is the swaddling transition?

Our LO is almost two months, so naturally I’m already worrying about having to give up her swaddle (even though no signs yet).

She fights the swaddle at first but settles in and sleeps great in it. So great that she just started mostly sleeping through the night. When we leave her out of the swaddle during daytime naps, she often startles herself awake.

Any tips/tricks for the eventual transition? (Sleep sack recs also welcome!)

Crying on one’s shoulder — literally

This may be the most millennial I’ve ever felt as a parent through 6+ weeks, but in the interest of peace of mind:

We have a relative who sees LO often and is generally super helpful. One kind of weird thing I’ve noticed recently, however, is that whenever LO is having a meltdown, said relative sort of presses LO’s face into their shoulder as they are bouncing/walking LO around. This has the effect of lowering the volume of the screams, which I suppose is good for everyone’s sanity. I know the expression is literally “cry on my shoulder,” but are they making it harder for LO to breathe?

Baby Bjorn bouncer covers

Does anyone have any off-brand covers they swear by? It’s a real pain to have to wash every time we have a spit-up/bathroom situation in the bouncer and then can’t use it for several hours! But I also don’t feel like spending $90 on a branded cover.

7.5aH batteries

Looking into the portable generator as backup power help. Amazon has a pretty good deal on one with two 7.5 batteries. But I think I’ve read on this sub that those versions are actually the worst that Ego produces? Am I better off trying to find a good deal with the 5aHs?

Crying over spilt milk

Finally happened! Groggy after a MOTN feed and wife’s pump session, I somehow knocked over the mason jar when filling it up. Luckily it was the start of a new day/jar and only about 3 oz, maybe just over half of what was pumped that session. But it still felt soul-crushing — we’re settling into a mostly “just enough” production. Much different feeling than spilling cow’s milk! 🙃

Tl;dr: My LO (1 month old) isn’t gaining weight as expected. Our pediatrician thinks she’s not getting enough milk breastfeeding for whatever reason, so she recommended topping her off with 2 oz after a feed. But given that, I think wife and I are both at the point where we think it makes sense to just start EP’ing so we know how much LO getting with each bottle feed (doctor says around 3 oz each feed). And because, let’s face it, it seems like there’s not enough time in the day to spend ~40 mins breastfeeding and another 20 on a bottle.

I think we both feel a bit mixed on this — are we being bad parents because we don’t want to spend a little extra time on feeding? That said, we’re both practical people, and having a clear idea of how much she’s getting per feed makes a lot of sense.

I guess I’m just looking for support/validation here. Or for someone to tell me to stick it out! And any tips, tricks, or stories for why y’all decided to EP. Thanks!
