Is it reasonable to prefer dating someone who speaks English in your own country?
I'm a 23M Vietnamese, born and living in Vietnam my whole life, but I've ended up consuming almost 100% of my content in English and from a global internet space. I think in English, write in English most of the time, journal in English, read in English, and I joke in English.
I feel like my inner voice is more natural in English than in Vietnamese. My native language now has become more like a practical, daily life language rather than a language where I fully inhabit. When I speak Vietnamese now I feel more reserved and more serious. I don't express humor or emotions as fluidly, comfortably and precisely as I do in English where I feel like a different version of myself entirely.
Because of that, I find it much easier to connect with people who are not just capable of speaking English, but who actually think and live in it comfortably and that narrows my dating pool drastically. Last month I met a girl who was exactly like that and it felt so freaking awesome because we could switch languages back and forth, I was into it so much but she wasn't emotionally available so I had to move on. Finding someone like that here is not easy, she was the first girl I've ever liked after years of not into anyone.
So I'm wondering if it's reasonable to treat English fluency as a real preference in dating?
