Ideas for a show - choir - Christmas ‘27 - with a Jewish focus

I’m part of a Gay men’s choir (TTBB - that’s a choir voice part thing not a reinvention of LGBT+ etc!) and I’m looking for inspiration.

I’m trying to put together ideas for a show at Christmas in 2027 but I want to make it somehow Jewish focused.

It could be only featuring songs by Jewish songwriters or it could be maybe throwing in Hanukah songs perhaps. They both feel really obvious though.

This is very early stage ideas gathering and I’m thinking that amongst our number in here there’s going to be some folks with some wonderfully creative ideas of what a Jewish Christmas seasonal programme could look like.

Yes it’s a Christmas show but that’s only because it’ll be staged around Christmas time.

It can be as camp or as serious as we like and if you’ve got ideas I’m going to be interested in hearing them!

Arcadia. Duke of York’s. Heat etc

Went last night. Along with many others, had to bail in the interval due to the heat. It was unbearable.
Was sitting in the circle. No air. No discernible cooling at all.

Nova exhibition - London

I went to the Nova exhibition yesterday as it’s just this week arrived in London.

I’ve never seen such a raw, powerful, profound exhibition that’s come from such an awful terror attack.

Exhibits include videos taken by the murdered, the hunted, the survivors and the terrorists, many of whom wore body cams to record their actions.

It is undeniably difficult to see the reality of what took place on that morning at the Nova festival, a place where people had gathered from all over the world to dance, without a filter of a news organisation sanitising what we see. But it’s incredibly powerful to be there amongst the sounds and sights from that festival, from that day.

Every two hours in the Healing Room there’s a talk, a real in-person talk not a video, from a survivor or from a family member or friend of someone who was murdered that day. I saw two speak. Both survivors. Both struggling still with cPTSD and survivor’s guilt but both determined to meet any hate that comes their way not with hate but with love.

In a room full of lit candles, if one goes out nobody notices. In a dark room, if a candle is lit it makes a huge difference.

Be the light in the room.

Book tickets. Go and see the exhibition. Listen to the testimonials. Book again. Go again. It’s important.

Pistachio and strawberry cheesecake v2

This time I actually remembered the strawberry elements!

Pistachio and strawberry baked cheesecake

Decided to whip one of these up this morning on a whim. Dehydrated strawberries and then ground them into a fine powder to add to the pistachio cheesecake mix in swirls etc.

Guess who spotted the powdered strawberries sitting on the side half an hour after the cake has been in the oven!

Guess who’s going to have to make another one and actually remember to put the strawberries in this time!!

What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve left out of a bake by accident?

Parent losing sight - accessibility and advice - UK

My dad (85yr) is rapidly becoming blind. He’s now unable to read, see the computer screen etc.
He has an iPhone (currently an XR) and an iPad but a windows pc.

I tweaked settings on the pc recently but didn’t realise how poor his vision actually was.

I’m thinking of swapping the pc for a iMac and updating the iPhone and iPad for him as I expect it’ll have better accessibility functionality built in. Does it?

He uses the phone for calls, messaging, checking emails (or did anyway) and it’s the same for the iPad with FaceTime calls and reading some books and newspapers on.

Are there simple things we can do that will make life easier for him or is it rearranging deckchairs on the titanic and does he just have to accept that using the tech is no longer an option?

I’m firmly in the Appleverse so am drawn to Apple products rather than Microsoft ones. I may therefore be biased in my belief that using an iMac with a Magic Mouse would be useful and simple.

White chocolate and raspberry cookies

Riffing off the M&S ones I tried to create something visually similar. Used freeze dried raspberries and bog standard white chocolate chips mixed into a standard vanilla cookie dough.

I was there Tuesday night (again) and there were the same issues as in previous occasions (fumbling words etc, a couple of technical issues such as the camera feed freezing a couple of times and Cynthia’s mic dropping out but nothing major) but apparently in the afternoon they’d pulled the Wednesday matinee.

That’s with less that 24hrs notice for a major west end show with a star name that people will have booked to see specifically. Travel, hotels etc will all be booked and there’s no explanation or obvious reason why they cancelled another performance.

Is there a marathon on Wednesday that we’re not aware of or something?

As I’ve mentioned before, I see a lot of stuff. I don’t post reviews regularly but if anyone wants to ask my thoughts on any of the things I’ve seen so far, or just generally about theatre, dance, opera etc then fire away!
