I found it on my balcony and I live in California. Very beautiful Mantis, looks like a boy to me with vibrant colors. Very fast.

The beast feasts. Also bonus points if anyone can tell me the gender, I still don’t know. I know the abdomen pic isn’t the greatest, but it’s hard to capture it. Also yes, it’s missing a leg, it happened during or after a molt because it was gone when he/she was emerging from the exoskeleton 2 molts ago. But they seem fine without it.

Today I brought home my baby Chinese Mantis. I did a bunch of research on how to care for them but would still like tips. One of them being if I should put it in its permanent enclosure right now or put it in this smaller plastic cup temporary enclosure I made because I heard it’s better for nymphs to be in smaller enclosures? But also how do I prevent mold from spreading in the cup? And from what I’m getting it’s best to feed it every other day as a young nymph? I got fruit flies for it. Thank you!
